Word has it that the much ballyhooed Mr. America will be Hulk Hogan in a mask. Anyone else heard this? Can anyone confirm? If this is true, we are headed for a new era of WWE suckitude. TNA, here I come!

That seems to be the rumor du jour floating about 'net. When I first heard about Mr. America I immediately thought "DEAR LORD ITS LUGER!" But I would much rather have Hulk in a mask than the return of the Lex Express.

WIENER OF THE DAY! July 6, 2002!

Fear can sometimes be a useful emotion. For instance, let's say you're an astronaut on the moon and you fear that your partner has been turned into Dracula. The next time he goes out for the moon pieces, wham!, you just slam the door behind him and blast off. He might call you on the radio and say he's not Dracula, but you just say, "Think again, bat man."

I think they could have some fun with this if they spoofed the whole `who's behind the mask' gimmick. As in, everyone knows its Hogan, but McMahon can never quite prove it.

And then, once that gimmick has run its course, he can always run for Senator...

They should make Big Show "Giant America". That would rock.

Wasn't that the whole concept behind the Midnight Snacker,-- .. Rider?

Definitely. But that was, what, 20 years ago? It can be argued that the same concept was also used with Giant Machine, Mr. Madness, Yellow Dog and Blue Blazer (Baaaad example, I know, but it is the most recent). As long as the same gimmick doesn't get carted out every single year, I think it's fair game.
Sure, the angle won't set the world on fire, but its worth doing because it keeps Hogan in the public eye (like him or not, he is still a draw) without having him do all that much.

If we can hear "Real American" every week, it will be worth it.

Hogan was apparently on Bubba The Love Sponge show today (as opposed to the six times he HASN'T been on this show in the last five years) and said he liked the way that Mr. America looked, or something to that effect, suggesting it's him. I believe 1wrestling.com posted the report....

Metlzer said it was him last night on WOL. Apprently the gimmick is going to be that the fans are going to know it's him, but the guys in the back don't. (yeah I know)

We already got a Mr. America--Kurt Angle. We don't need some dork in a stars and stripes mask, we got a guy in a stars and stripes singlet for god's sake.

As long as we get a Hogan/Mr. America staredown a la Edge & Christian vs. Los Conquistadores, I'll be happy.

WM 20 at this point may have a RAW vs Smackdown career match, pitting Mr. America aganist that dastardly Black Scorpion.

Gee, I was hoping it would be The Patriot.

Also, as long as we are taking a trip down memory lane, some other of my favorite masked famous wrestlers were Golga and Who.

Nothing substanial to add..just wanted to toss in Red River Jack's name. Cuz any thread that gets to mention Brusier Brody gains a small snippet of credibility.

All I know is, if it is Hogan unless he's in a full body costume, the glowing orange complexion will give the roided out peach away. My bets for Mr. Americas alias would be as follows....

1.)Luger: Not sure what Luger has to do w/ America other than being a citizen, but it would be a way to bring him in as a maked guy and a shocker, kinda, when unmasked.

2.)Steiner:Mostly because of his recent "great Debate" w/ Nowinski, seems to be one of the only WWE'ers to have an all American theme going.

3.)Sting: 3 things really. 1.Sting always has been the one that didnt jump to the WWF this would be a way to keep his identity hidden and then maybe at Wrestlemania 20 reveal it is Stinger (wait thats an awful lot of continuity involved for the RAW writers) 2. Sting has always been a mysterious type character or a comic book type character, and I think thats what this Mr. America will be 3.Sting would want to be involved in an angle w/ a certain moral value or one involving him defeating evil, say the Frenchies that are on the way.(and no I do not personaly believe the French are evil).

4)Shark Boy: He wears a mask and is a bit of an unknown, a good match for the new French stable or for Nowinski to battle w/ maybe even the Hurricanne could team w/ him.

It will probably be Hogan, but depending on how it is handled could be one of the worst or most creative angles in the history of wrestling.

I agree with you, that's a lot to expect from the crap writers they've picked up. I wouldn't be surprised if they started writing stuff for WM20 on March 20.
