what the hell was the point in wasting 15mins on tomko's beatdown of richards.
backstage mr richards must have really upset someone to be humiliated like that. no proper TV (no pun)time for months then a ppv beatdown wearing granny pants.
are we really expected to accept that as entertainment. it was a good job the excellent ladder match followed it

The point is that the WWE writers can't put together a good, solid, full PPV card together so they had a lot of time to kill. In the end, all they really managed to kill was the Portland crowd with that disgusting, hideous match.

That was ridiculous. It's funny, because the crowd seemed to be really into Stevie. There were a few Stevie chants from the crowd, too and they really popped when he was fighting back on Tomko. The crowd, however, was not digging Tomko in the slightest. After the first 10 minutes of Stevie's ass-whuppin', a nap could have broken out at any time as evidenced by the chants of "Borrrrring!" (Austin would have been so proud. **wipes tear**)

I'm just hoping this is a lead-in to a push for Stevie. The guy's paid his dues and has been steadily bulking up over the past few years. Whatever the company has asked him to do, no matter how ridiculous, he's done it. From R.T.C., to dressing up as a chick around Chyna, to dressing up as a chick to defend Victoria. He's a better wrestler than the Sunday Night Sissy-Fight against Tomko showed last night and shouldn't have to go down as this generation's Brooklyn Brawler. As for Tomko, I'm not understanding the push. He's more like one of those "Create-a-Wrestlers" for a PS2 games that someone got crazy with adding the tattoos on." Meh. But then again, "La Resistance" have been tag champs for quite a while, so go figure.

Stevie's been one of the few things that's kept Heat watchable. He deserves better.

It's not so much that they didn't like Steven Richards. I don't think that's much the case as it is because they see another 'cool Hoss' or something in Tomko and figured he needed a match somewhere in the PPV so he can have a squash ala (insert any Smackdown hoss shown in the past few months here) so why not some impromptu match? The crowd loved Stevie (even in the silly 'woman' garb that everyone knew except JR/King for the first few weeks) and so they probably figured there's a way to give Tomko overness by beating the beloved jobber.

Of course, since they stretched the squash well over what they need (probably to kill off more time), the crowd just couldn't stand it anymore.

I hate squashes, though, to begin with, since we've been subjected to them for quite a while now and it's getting ridiculous.

This was not worth calling a "match".

I didn't see the PPV, but what you all are describing sounds a lot like what WCW would do with the "over" JTTS guys like Norman Smiley, La Parka and the like they would feed them to heatless guys like The Wall and only get around ten seconds of offense the entire match. (Which would be the only ten seconds the crowd actually reacted.)

The sad thing is, sometimes guys like Stevie Richards make the best "cannon fodder" because of their ability to make most men look good. Arn Anderson made a career out of it. I guess what I am trying to say is that it sucks ass for guys like Stevie to be used the way he's been used, but without guys like Stevie or Arn, lesser men would be even LESS watchable.

Right, but I'm sure the argument here would be, why bother with those "lesser men" at all? It really makes no sense to say "Oh, well it's good that these guys are jobbed out to lesser wrestlers, because then the lesser wrestlers look okay," because that implicitly assumes that these lesser wrestlers need to have jobs with WWE, which they obviously don't.

First off La Resistance are a good team, and secondly the CAW features on games freakin rock! Don't insult them by comparing them to tomko.

In a normal world, you'd be dead-on correct.

But it seems like the WWE world says that for the most part you have to be big and muscular to get recognition. (With a few exceptions) Unfortunately, "big" to WWE is apparently someone taller than 6'6" and 280 lbs. (Personally, I would consider Stevie Richards "big" at 6'2"/240, but then again I'm a rather small guy...)

I'm not trying to defend Tyson Tomko in any way because I see NOTHING he brings to the table that someone like Batista could do 10x better, but SOMETIMES you gotta take a chance and hope that there is a Lex Luger (pre-90!!) amongst all the washouts if you have to resort to "big" men. According to the fan reactions though, that chance backfired "big."

It's situations like this, though, that could give an answer as to why guys like Lance Storm and Tommy Dreamer have taken back-of-the-house positions....

Dreamer's too hurt to continue having matches and too smart to turn down backstage agent jobs. Storm allegedly has always wanted to become an agent. Being made the main trainer in OVW is quite a compliment to Storm, and he'll continue to do very well financially for his family.

But I do see the point you're trying to make. If anyone fits into the category you formed for Storm & Dreamer (and Stevie), it's Christian. Long after Christian is out of actively wrestling, I'll bet he's the least happy with the way he was pushed in the WWE (out of most people).

Stevie's big, but Stevie is considered a comedy act by the WWE now. It's a shame they did nothing with him after his Right to Censor push.
While he has the size they look for, I think his big disadvantage is that he's not all "buffed out" like H or Tomko is. Probably just a body type thing, or maybe steriods don't agree with him - I don't know. Personally, I think he's one of the most talented guys they have, and he's great on the mic. I've heard him talk for extended periods at house shows here in Philly, as well as his great work in ECW with the bWo. I guess that once they classify you in WWE as a jobber, it's harder than hell to break out of it.
Tyson Tomko reminds me too much of Bull Buchanan. He's probably just there because of the "new guy" push that seems to be the "Next Big Thing" with the WWE this year. The same thinking that gives us Eugene, Conway, Batista, and Orton is giving us Heidenreich and this guy. I just don't know about WWE's ideas. Their last bright idea of bringing in the WCW guys like the nWo and Goldberg didn't work out either.
Maybe it's time they take a second look at the guys they already have.

Honest question:

Hasn't Stevie Richards been injury-prone for the past several years? I'm wondering if that has to do with an lack of activity. (Keep in mind during the RTC era he was primarily the mouthpiece and manager during matches.)

Okay, I'll take back the part about Tomko being one of those CAWs. Make no mistake about it, CAWs do indeed kick ass, and they probably have better and more versatile expressions and move sets than Tomko. You're right, dude.... However, I'm still sticking by my La Resistance = Snooze Fest statement.
