Okay, so we have a thread predicting RR winners... what about who ends up getting the Diesel push? (i.e. throwing out the most guys before being eliminated by some fluke)

My vote goes to the Undertaker, assuming they plan to bring him back as a surprise entrant at the RR. Although knowing the WWE lately, this role may end up going to A-Train or Matt Morgan. (sigh)

Either Morgan or Batista I'd think.

If I can be serious for a minute...
I think Mark Henry is probably going to get that since they've been giving him the monster push lately.

I say Kane. Forget that he's had it before, and he doesn't really need it to advance his issues with The Undertaker, AND the guy's already pushed to the moon -- he'll still get it.

I think he'll start tossing bodies early on and be eliminated near the end when The Undertaker, or at least his eerie music, appears. I wrote all about it here as part of how I'd book the next three PPV's, if anyone's interested.

Here are my picks:

1) Big Show...they always like to keep him strong
2) Batista - still relatively unknown and soon he'll be pushed hard...if HHH takes some time off in 2004
3) Cena - people still havent gotten into him as a serious act and i think a strong showing at Rumble would do it

Batista, hands down. The guy is only really over by association and he needs this if he is going to be the next WWE monster. Taker will probably toss him in the later stages of the match.

If the Big Show is in the match he will probably be near the end and most likely will get pushed out by a posse after throwing out a guy or two.

I can't see Cena staying in any longer then 10-15 minutes.

Matt Morgan. Little known fact is that Batista was in the Final Four of last year's Rumble. I don't think it'd benefit Batista that much to start tossing guys to make a name for himself (because Evolution is doing that for him), but "M-Train" Matt Morgan needs something to make him less generic...

It'll be Batista, no doubt about it. Matt Morgan's going nowhere, and given that he's being positioned in a feud with A-Train, I think they realize it. Neither guy even got on Smackdown this week. Batista, on the other hand, is being pushed near the top of the card, which not only makes it much more likely that he'll get the push but it makes a lot more sense that way too.

Then again, a few years ago they gave it to Road Dogg, so you never really know...

Benoit. I can't really buy into the scenario where Benoit comes in at #1 and wins the Rumble, but giving him a good long run is the next best thing.

The instant obsolesence is why I became a writer. The rate of punctuation in a sentence doesn't double every 18 friggin' months, and you never have some 22-year-old looming over your shoulder, shaking his head, saying "dude... you're still using adverbs...?"

Either Cena or Benoit. One of them will win, and the other will get the Diesel push.

No remeber that Henry is gonna ask Bischoff for his favor on RAW. I have a feeling that favor will be number 30 in the Rumble.

I think the Diesel moment belongs to one of the following: Batista, Matt Morgan, Bradshaw or A-Train, with Hardcore Holly being the outide chance.

If I had to pick one out of those, I would go with Morgan due to his youth and size.

I'm fairly sure it won't be Kane, as he's already had his Rumble Diesel push.

So? Back in the day, Hulk Hogan or the Ultimate Warrior got the Diesel push EVERY YEAR. Either them or (GASP!) Diesel did.

True. Fear of repitition has never stopped McMahon in the past.

Personally, if it were given to me to book, I'd give it to Shannon Moore. Mix it up a little bit by giving it to a cruiserweight.

The thing about Shannon is that they're trying to make him a sympathetic babyface but all i see from fans at Smackdown is apathy. They're trying to make him a Spike Dudley-type underdog and its not working.

You have to consider McMahon's love of hosses. Hence, Morgan or Batista would be the best bet but more Batista, who seems to have a greater upside than Morgan.

I don't see how you can believably give Shannon Moore the Diesel push, since he's just to little to be dominating and tossing people around like that. I could see them giving him the Rick Martel push, where he keeps hanging on and lasts in the Rumble forever, leading all the way to a huge blindfold match at WrestleMania with Jake Roberts.

As an aside, isn't Kane reported to be in the RR title match, thus making him ineligible to receive the Diesel push again?

I'd like them to give to someone like Christian, or Matt Hardy. Just have them do commintary, until someones holding somebody else over the ropes, and then they sneak up and eliminate both, then go right back to commintate until somebody else can be easily eliminated.

Either Christian or Matt Hardy would be a waste. I'm a fan of both guys, but neither one of them is at the stage where they're a Rumble win away from being a credible challenger to the world title. They'd be seen much the same as Maven was two years ago when he got his title shot against Jericho because he was never "officially" eliminated from the Rumble...it was a neat angle and made for a good match, but even the most oblivious mark in the crowd knew there was no way the title was going to change.

I'm in favour of pushing Christian, and I'm in favour of pushing Matt Hardy. The problem is if you give them too much out of nowhere it's not believable and all you get is a wasted Royal Rumble rather than a new elevated star. If you're going to elevate someone with a RR win it should be a guy who needs that final push to really get to the top, not a guy who desperately needs something to build on.

I think Matt Hardy had a pretty good showing at the Royal Rumble last year. I think he lasted about half an hour and his spots with Shannon Moore throughout the match were hilarious and great. I don't think Hardy will get that kind run this year, since about a year ago he was about to hit his peak on the smackdown roster at the time.

I was thinking they could have a scenerio where three or four wrestlers are trying to eliminate a big man (say, for example, A-Train). These wrestlers have him off the ground. Shannon is on the opposite side of the ring, beaten to the mat. Shannon sees an opportunity and runs full speed into the pack, who are all hanging part way over to get Train out, and pushes them all over the top.

Then, flash the camera to Moore, who is so beaten up that he can hardly stand. The next three or four opponents beat the hell out of him, but by some fluke, he always manages to get them over the top rope before the next one comes out (example, if the next guy were Mysterio, he could be going for the 619, Moore could slide aside and pull down the top rope sending Mysterio sailing out).

I would sell him pretty hard. I'd have him last to the final four, but then be eliminated by John Cena, with JR saying something along the lines of "He gave it a valient effort, blah, blah, blah". After that, they could do a storyline where Heyman is genuinely impressed with Moore and tries to lure him over to his camp as their cruiserweight representative. Moore fakes a heel turn, only to attack Heyman. Next week, Moore is given a cruiserweight title shot, and is about to win when Paul London runs in and screws it up. Heyman and company walk out and Heyman announces: "I'd like to indroduce you all to the newest member and cruiserweight division representative of Team Lesnar, Paul London". From there, London and Moore feud, culminating in a match for the Cruiserweight title at Wrestlemania (either a triple threat or a four-way involving Rey and Tajiri). Moore could walk away with the win, and the next Smackdown, Heyman could sponsor a battle royale to determine the number 1 contender to the cruiserweight belt.

Just an idea...

You know...that show sucked bigtime. I knew that the show would be a total manipulation and re-working of history, but damn, that was bad. I wish that a 3rd party had done the show.
