| #1 Posted on 1.4.02 0208.58 | Ok, so I was at Streetside on Saturday, buying tickets for RAW (2nd row. hell yeah), and I noticed that their cd was only 9 bucks. The first single was ok, and I really like the second one, so I picked it up. Now, I've only ogtten the chance to listen to it once, but was anyone else disappointed by it? I'll give it another try when I go to school on Tuesday, but I was let down when I first heard it. Any other thoughts?

Q: If you could have interviewed Marvin Gaye, where would you have proposed to meet and what would you have asked him?
A: I would have met anywhere as long as it was before his father shot him. I would have asked him, "Hey, don't you think there's some chance that your father might shoot you? To death, I mean?"

*yawn* Generic Indie Rock. Hooray for homogeny. Try some punk, instead. Or rap. Or listen to some Supertramp.

The White Stripes are nice and cute kids and they play good music. I thought they'd be exactly what I hate but it turns out they're pretty swell. They have a shtick, but thankfully it's a palatable one and it doesn't spoil the music or the enjoyment of it. If I find out that they're Manhattan prep school snobs whose fathers own modeling agencies, however, I might be forced to change my mind.

Try getting a life. I would be so much cooler if I listened to stuff nobody heard of like No Use For a Name *gasp* or Tek-9, right? wrong. Popular /= (is that internet for "not equal"?) bad. Stop being afraid of listening to decent music just because the band has a video on Mtv.
I'm coming off completely wrong, as I don't even listen to much music anymore. Really just the N.E.R.D. album and my Ultraman music cd. I could care less as to what other people listen to, I was just wondering if anyone else who may have similar tastes was dissapointed by the White Stripes album. I was hoping for a modern version of the Urinals (is that punk enough for you Travis?), but it came up short.

If NUFAN is so obscure, how were you able to reference them so easily? I'm not "afraid" of anything, but I know that for every watered down, idiot-friendly band that they play on MTV there's 5 or 10 GOOD bands out there I can listen to instead. And anyone involved with Weekly Visitor has no business telling me to "get a life".

| #7 Posted on 2.4.02 0846.28 | I could have referenced, say, Catholic Discipline or The Dils just as easily, but I was going for an "underground" band that is mind-explodingly awful, such as No Use For a Name. And for every 5 or 10 horribly boring "underground" group there is one or two good bands that do get mainstream exposure.
UPDATE: I have listened to the White Stripes album again. Although I still don't like it as much as I thought I would, I have come to realize that I only thought I would like it so much because I was going on next to no sleep and it was only $9. I probably wont get rid of it, but I can't see myself listening to it a whole lot. Guess it's back to the N.E.R.D. album for me.

| #8 Posted on 3.4.02 1600.48 | White Stripes aren't really a band made for the studio. I saw them last year on the basis of their previous album "De Stijl", but definitely they are blow-away great live. They have the sort of energy where it doesn't really matter if they miss a key or miss a beat because they are rocking. I don't really believe in that savior of rock crap, but I personally think the CD is a solid keeper for Jack and Meg's genuine sound.

| #9 Posted on 3.4.02 2326.40 | how did my sig get all messed up there? Weird.
I was thinking about how they would sound live. I don't know if I'd see them, mainly because I have gotten really lazy lately. If it was free, I'd probably see half their set. Better live or on album, I don't really know, but I'd give it a shot.

With the exception of the Land Ho/Summer Romance 45, I have just about every Supertramp track ever laid down on wax, daddy. (And if anybody can FIND that 45 for me, I'll give you big bucks for it!)
