Feeling somewhat like a kid in a sweetshop after booking my tickets to Tokyo, I can't decide which of the below wrestling shows I should go to. The Tokyo Dome is obviously a must (Wrestle Kingdom, tickets bought already) but I reckon that the lovely wife will allow me to go to another one or possibly two (the holiday is her surprise Christmas present, but she's not a massive wrestling fan.)
Any recommendations? I'll write show reports/take photos for our forum on the ones I make!
Originally posted by texasranger9I would go NOAH on Sat and AJPW Tue. See a variety of promotions while you are there.
I was going to suggest a variety too but I was going to say DDT because I was under the impression they are considered the next out of these promotions. I'm a newbie though so I don't really know for sure what order people think DDT, AJPW and NOAH go in.
If you like women's wrestling I'd suggest giving joshi a try because most of what I've seen is much better than the women's wrestling in the states. Unfortunately the only one I'm familiar with is Stardom and they don't seem to be on the schedule. I do know that Sendai Girls' has Meiko Satomura who is considered by a lot of people to be one of the two or three best women wrestlers.
You also might want to check and see if these are just "regular" shows or if any of these promotions are having a more special event, because if anyone is having a special event that might edge out somebody else's normal event.
NJPW on 01/05 usually has a big angle or two, but tickets for that one are usually impossible to get.
As far as the others, it's dependent on what you're looking for.
DDT has good matches, but it's more designed to be an entertainment style project than as strictly sport as the other main groups. You'll get more a variety of action, but it also mean more storylines you may not be understand or pop culture references to a different culture. There will be stuff you will enjoy but you may also be lost a time or two.
Both NOAH & AJPW are much more of what you'd think of traditional Japanese wrestling, even a bit more serious than NJPW. AJPW has a few couple names you might recognize from the US and NOAH might have Impact wrestlers around, but it's probably too soon to tell.
Thanks for all these ideas; taking some of your collective advice, I've been trying to figure out a way to buy tickets to the Jan 5th New Japan show, New Year's Dash, but the only way to get them seems to be to physically buy them over in Japan!
Morbid topic, but I think the Harts had a lot of terrible luck whereas the Von Erichs' misfortune was self-inflicted by the culture of entitlement and too much too soon that Fritz created that led to the overdose and all the subsequent suicides.
