OK, I went onto RSPW for the first time in a long time (at least I discovered message boards) just to see what it was like. I checked out a few random posts and they were really silly. I checked out a few more and got some more irrelevancy.

I'm not a "since 1991" RSPW guy, but I do remember a few years ago when it was still the best place for good wrestling discussion. What happened? And about when did it start to suck?

Maybe the Summer of 1997?

As the websites became more prominent, I think people abandoned the community medium and just put stuff on their sites.

I posted TV reports on their till about the end of 1998 maybe, then stopped going there altogether. I checked it out a few nights ago and the main forum looked pretty bad, but the RSPW-M seemed OK.

I think it partly had to do with the creation of RSPW-M. People were starting to get frustrated with the crap that was filtering into RSPW and so when the Mod was created most of the regular posters when there.

That left RSPW to run wild and free.

Then the boom of websites and messages boards hit.

CRZ would have a real good insight considering that he was a Mod for such a long time (Chris - you aren't still a mod are you?)

I'm still moderating RSPWI and RSPWM. We're down to two moderators of RSPWM, but I must confess I don't do anything more than lurk over there - if even that.

Also, I'm supposed to be helping out on the r.s.p-w FAQ rewrite (that I promised over a year ago - maybe even two years ago), and THAT'S on the back burner as well, sadly...

My last SERIOUS r.s.p-w involvement was probably around 1995. Since then, I've contributed the awards and not much else above glorified lurking (except for the occasional response to any thread which mentions me - gotta FEED MY EGO you know ;-) )

I started going to RSPW-M exclusively before net boards were so predominant when RSPW was nothing but childish "feuds" with no intelligent wrestling discussion and commentary. Although I was basically a troll since I had little new to say or comment about at the time. I guess that means nobody there really missedd me anyway. lol

I know I stopped reading when Dave stopped posting and started the Lariat.

It's scary to think I was on the net before web pages were everywhere.

I was talking to someone at work about computer stuff and I was mentioning VMS and Vax and shell and he had no idea what I was talking about and he is a computer guy. :>

I remember there was this real weird guy named Zoogz Rift posting on RSPW all the time. He always got people going.

I think websites and message board replaced Usenet in general. I'm one of those guys who also remembers the net before the Web. It's much better now.

Zoogz Rift was a pretty bizarre individual--musician, pro wrestling manager, among other things. I'd wager he has a site of his own now or something.

I find it entertaining to go via groups.google.com and see how the RSPW smarts were discussing Undertaker's supposed Survivor Series 1996 rebirth as "The Saviour", or predicting King of the Ring 1995, or (even better) reacting to said tournament.

I also like the idea of reading old posts by guys like Joel Gertner and Ed Ferrarra. Sadly, it stops at the idea stage, becaus their actual posts were rather dull.

Yup it is out there, and it is the very creatively named zoogzrift.com

what's scary is when i tell people i've been "online" since 1986 [yes, eighty-six] on BBS's and people go:

"BBS's? what??"
it's like that simpsons eps. about hullabaloza...

"you know, that guy from apple computers"
"What computers?"
