Born and raised Roman Catholic.
My wife converted to Catholicism six years ago.
So, she's a much better Catholic than I.

Weirdest mass I've ever been to-World Youth Day in Toronto in 2002. One million people in the pouring rain and cold, but the moment PJP II takes the stage, the sun comes out and it gets HOT.
So hot, in fact, there's a guy on a Dickie Dee bicycle going through the crowd...let's just say it was the first time I've recited "Our Father" while holding a fudgesicle. | OMEGA

But with mom being lapsed and dad not subscribing to anything in particular, that was more of less that. Dad had been Catholic, Methodist and even Mormon for a couple weeks.
So I was about the only kid, other than Weinberg, who didn't go to CCD in my Irish and Portugese hometown.
I'm serious as a heart attack about my girlfriend, and her family will expect me to convert. They're all Greek Orthodox.
(P.S. Now dad and his girlfriend are of the old hippie strain of Buddhists.)

| #38 Posted on 28.8.05 1759.36 | Instant Rating: 5.38 | I grew up pretty agnostic, dabbled in Buddhism for a while after college. Ended up converting to Catholicism a couple of years ago (including the classes, Baptism, whole nine yards), but it didn't take in the end. Since then, I've pretty much been on the spiritual quest thing. Looking about here and there, trying to find something that fits. I generally find Unitarianism too vague and most denominations too orthodox. My wife's happily Pagan, but it just never fit for me either. Basically, I have a large appetite for spiritual experience, but, thus far, I'm not quite there yet.

| #39 Posted on 28.8.05 1816.16 | Instant Rating: 5.12 | Hmm. I was raised Protestant (in various different demonimations). I think my Mom thought it was important that we went to church, but not any church in particular. I know the Bible pretty well, but I definitely don't believe in it's inerrancy (in spite of John 20:29), which to me puts the value of the whole book in doubt.
You could say Agnostic. I find all the miracles that occur in the Bible to be wholly unbelievable. Of course, if I did see a guy walk on water, or turn a stick into a snake, or raise a person from the dead, I'd believe then. But I don't think any of those miracles would hold up to scientific scrutiny today. So yeah, I don't believe that God can be proven or disproven.
You could say Deist. As I said, I don't believe in miracles, so a God who creates the universe and then leaves it alone (the "absentee landlord") seems possible to me. After all, according to the current laws of physics, it is impossible to predict what the universe was like before the Big Bang. Which leaves a little crack in there for God to do its thing.
You could say Humanist. I do believe that morality is something that should be able to be reasoned, instead of handed down from on high. However, I have to disagree with those who believe that humanity should be the measure of all things.
Oh, and I don't believe in souls. Or in celebrating nearly all holidays.
The SelectSmart.com Belief System Selector says that the religions that most match my beliefs are: Reform Judaism, Liberal Quakers, and Unitarian Universalism. My worst matches are Hinduism, and Seventh Day Adventist.
I think I can handle Reform Judaism. After all, I'm already circumcised!
