That's honestly the first time I've ever heard someone say something positive about the 95 Rumble. It's almost universally regarded as the worst Rumble in history. The reduced 60 second intervals were terrible but were necessary to hide a roster of guys who would be lucky to make it onto Wrestlemania, let alone the main event. The full ist of participants is pretty embarassing.

I'm partial to 96 and 05, but that's mostly because both were in Fresno, and I was in attendance for the 2005 Rumble. I've always liked 2000 for the Tazz/Angle match and the HHH/Cactus Jack brawl. This is my favorite pay per view of the year, mostly for the Rumble match itself, anything else from the rest of the card is icing.

1992 for the sheer amount of talent.
2004 because in my opinion, it's the best Rumble match I've ever seen. Also the Chris Benoit story.
2007 for the epic Shawn/UT finish.

The 1999 Rumble is clearly the worst, with its terrible pacing, bad booking and unsatisfying ending. Say what you will about the lack of top talent in 1995 and the quick intervals, but at least it was a "real" Royal Rumble rather than some goofy Russo nonsense where the winner spent about three minutes out of 60 in the ring.

Agreed. I'm not saying it's the best rumble ever. But it is a personal favorite of mine due to largely being a HBK fan. I just also think it's an interesting rumble because it really introduced the dramatic near elimination aspect. I mean, they have had near eliminations before but HBK's was the first where I held my breath wondering if he really stayed alive like we do these days with Kofi and others.

1999 is aaaaaawful. A good Rumble will usually boost a good five or six of its entrants and have a lot of fun little bits of inter-match booking. 1999 had Kane being chased away by orderlies, the entire match stopping for the Ministry to kidnap Mabel, and the worst ending of any before or since. Disaster.

'95 is almost certainly the worst collection of talent and starpower, but as a match I think it's pretty good because they just have Michaels and Bulldog wrestle each other from start to finish with all the assorted garbage popping in and out. Even besides '99 (which is almost NOT CANON, like the Wargames: Russo's Revenge), most of the late 90s ones are more boring since there are stretches where their barren midcard has to go it alone.

One of these days we need a thread to hash out just what is still canon in the current WWE 5-year sliding timeline.

The challenge worth, er, undertaking as we move into Wrestlemania Season would be to condense 30 years of Wrestlemania into a ten year period. What matches still happen? Does the main event of Wrestlemania I become The Immortal Hulk Hogan vs. The Big Show? Which main eventers get eliminated from Wrestlemania history entirely? (Answer: Lex Luger, Paul Orndorff)

These are the exact reasons I'm partial to the '95 Rumble.

I'll start.

1) Evolution
2) the breakup of Evolution
3) all post-Evolution feuds between Evolution members
4) Evolution when Randy Orton was feuding with Shawn Michaels but not Evolution when Triple H feuding with Shawn Michaels
4a) if an Evolution member turns babyface, John Cena will acknowledge that they had their wars, but he considers him a damn good friend of his
5) Batista turning on Rey Mysterio

Clock makes a fool of history.

WM1 as I recall was Steve Austin and Mike Tyson vs. Shawn Michaels and Triple H.

And there was that weird moment when Cole was talking up Del Rio and drifted to Lawler and his Memphis mansions. Lawler seemed unsteady and directed the comments back to the match.
