There are people waiting an hour to get gas, and some people have seen the privces jump 2-3 times before they get to the pump, sometimes by $0.50 at a time. One station is at $4.99/gallon right now. Reports are the gov of Georgia is going to put a stop to this gouging. Way to take advantage of the situation. Jezuz.

Yikes.
He was also supposed to be vacationing in New Orleans next week before attending the ASU-LSU game. Not good.

| #63 Posted on 31.8.05 1757.02 | Instant Rating: 8.84 | The first gas station I pass when I drive into the town where I work, 30 miles away, is a Sunoco. At roughly 8:30 this morning, 87 was at $2.55 but there was a lady by the sign with that big pole changing the numbers. I had half a tank but decided to pull in and see if I could fill before prices went up (it had been $2.55 since Monday). All of the pumps had "Pay Before Pump" signs taped to them. Happily enough, it was still $2.55. At least for PA Sunoco stations, they change the outside signs before they change the price in the computers, so if you see them changing the numbers and you know it'll be for the worse, try to get a pump and prepay before they make the official change. I wound up filling my tank for just over $21. (I wish I wasn't so happy about that. I still remember how upset my grandfather was when we went to Ocean City one summer and gas went over one dollar a gallon; there were so many colorful words to add to my vocabulary that day.)
At 5:30, the Sunoco station was up to $2.99; now, if only paychecks started going up by 5 cents an hour...

Most places I saw this afternoon had the cheap stuff above $3.15, but I found a place a bit out of the way that was at $2.79. On the way home, saw a place with the premium at $3.90. The scary part in my travels today was seeing a few gas stations that had no gas, including at least 1 name brand. | ges7184

Driving back home from work this afternoon, it is now $2.799/gallon. Rumor has it that other places around the city if over $3/gallon now.

Au contraire, CRZ. One Speedway station in Green Bay shot all the way up to $3.25/gal for plain' ol regular freakin' unleaded.
Most other stations in town are still at $2.99...but with the Gulf Coast being home to 40% of the oil-processing facilities that provide us Midwesterners with gasoline, I doubt that'll last.
15 minutes further south on Hwy 41, prices in the Fox Valley area are hanging around $3.09.
Sure were some empty pumps at that Speedway...

If my math is right, that works out to around $4/gallon.

The one that was $2.79 is usually the expensive one, and that's $3.09, as was a Sunoco one on the way to work. But there's another one in an area I frequent that's $2.79 now. I'll be happy if I find anything below $2.75 here.

It was $2.59/$2.69/$2.79 yesterday morning, and I saw a couple of stations locally as low as $2.39 at the time.
I can't believe I'm using the phrase "as low as" for $2.39.
Kentucky's governor is signing a price gouging law at the behest of the state's attorney general, who doesn't see why gas is going up so quickly, seeing as how the gas in the pipelines now shouldn't be affected by the devastation in the gulf. | redsoxnation

Based on some of what you guys had said, I expected similar spikes in the prices yesterday around here, but they're all pretty much level. The most expensive gas I saw yesterday was $2.959 at the one station that's ALWAYS the highest, but around my house they were still pretty much in the $2.65-$2.70-range.

I live in a small town, and the indpendent and smaller chain stations are out of gas. BP, Citgo, and Texaco seem to still have some. The governor has asked that everyone conserve until the pipeline from Louisiana is back up.
You can buy no gas for under $3, but we have a lot of gas tax.

Ditto here. I expected a huge spike here in downtown Seattle, but the gas station I regularly go to is still holding steady at $2.85, and hasn't budged since Tuesday.
