Just a bit curious, thought someone here might be more up to date with their status than I.

The reports that I've read at various news sites state that they're taking a well-deserved vacation and should return sometime around the ECW PPV in June.

They did show up at an OVW event recently, teaming with Tommy Dreamer against Joey Matthews, Johnny Nitro & Lance Storm.

They've been down here in OVW for a while now. The Dreamer/Storm match from last week as mentioned above, as well as an earlier appearance back in February where they had a television match (that same episode also featured a cameo apperance by Storm, come to think of it). I had read rumors that they were supposed to come back to WWE sometime around WrestleMania.

The Dudleys spending time down in OVW is what WWE needs to do with a lot of their stale talent. Before 1984, there were dozens of terriories where guys could circulate around, and never wear out their welcome. If WWE used their farm leagues as quasi-territories, it could spark interest in those promotions, while giving talent that has worn out their welcome a chance to cool off, or re-tool their gimmicks & personas.

Funny but I was suggesting to a friend recently that they should treat the new promotion in Atlanta as a competitor in-storyline with OVW so that they could cross-promote and allow guys to work differently in the two promotions.

They actually used to do this quite regularly between HWA and OVW when HWA was still used as a WWE developmental promotion. You would see a guy who was a face in HWA come down to OVW for a match as a heel and vice versa.

Heck, I'm half-tempted to think Heyman isn't in OVW to train OVW guys, but rather to prepare himself to work in Cornette's capacity down in Atlanta. The blueprint of OVW worked great with an established well-known wrestling figure as your main announcer who can not only book shows but talk on the mic. People don't just come to OVW to see the wrestlers, they come to see Cornette. Why not jump-start the interest in the Atlanta promotion by doing the same with Heyman?

You give him an outlet for working creative, set-up a rivalry between the two developmental promotions (storyline-wise and - from what has been suggested over the years about the relationship between Cornette and Heyman - in reality), keep Heyman away from the WWE writing (which seemed to tick off Stephanie, if reports are true), and have fans interested in checking out the Atlanta promotion to see what Heyman will do there.

Sounds like a win-win situation for all involved, really.

Well, just a thought.

And to go back even further, WWF used to send their B-teamers down to USWA for big-time angles - usually meaning the WWF face would be a massive USWA heel. Off the top of my head, Tatanka, Papa Shango, MOM, Owen Hart...and lest we forget, even Vince's historic first heel promos were cut for USWA television.

Sometimes they even won the USWA title (itscwrestling.com). You can also include Randy Savage in that group that was mentioned.

Yo, I don't believe this has been brought up yet, but the latest edition of The Interactive Interview features the "Nature Boy" himself, Ric Flair.
