As Shawn Michaels is set to return to action after the new year, I can't help but wonder what's left in the cards for him? Don't get me wrong, even as he nears 40, he's still one of the top 5 workers in the company. But where does he go from here?

Common sense would say that he's put into a feud with Edge, since it was indeed Edge that "cost" him the World Title via a spear at Taboo Tuesday. But that's been almost 3 months ago & WWE seems to think that we can't remember back that far most of the time.

There's the often talked about big-time dream match with Kurt Angle, in which the seeds may have been planted at Survivor Series in a backstage vignette between Angle and, ironically, Edge. But, will it ever see the light of day? And if it does, will it live up to the hype based on the fact that the two of them can't go (namely Angle) like they could in the past.

Another feud with Triple H? For the love of God, please, NO. Christian? They already tried that and it was over before it really got started.

Do you ship him to Smackdown if there is another post-WM draft? To me, Shawn Michaels is Monday Night. I don't wanna see him on Thursdays.

Thoughts?

Let him do whatever he wants to do!

HBK and HHH have held the WWE in the palm of their hands for the better part of ten years. The Clique they formed may have been a bit premature, but now it is a deserved status. For all the behind the scenes problems that were once caused, we get great on screen matches.

If they choose to put the two together as a kick ass heel/face team or let them battle again the two will make great matches. They have a chemistry that you do not find in pro wrestling today, reminds me of Flair and Anderson.

I think he's done plenty by putting over Benoit, Jericho and Edge this year. He didn't do all of that by himself, but he certainly helped out. His injury, no doubt, altered the road to WM, but his absence has allowed Benoit to take over as the RAW workhorse.

I think his character is in exactly the right position to be a presence on the show without the use of a belt. He can be part of the title hunt and the angles that come along with it, but he doesn't need a title to keep himself over with the crowd or the snarky fans who have to appreciate his PPV efforts this year. He is, literally, the show stopper, giving the shows a break from hard-sell writing and simply allowing the fans to enjoy a match between Micheals and anyone who needs to be established as a rising star (by losing to them)or someone staying in the midcard a while longer (by beating them).

But, really, Shawn, it's time to update the look. Cut the hair, ditch the heart pants and join us in the 2000 decade.

The only thing left for him to do is the 1 thing they/he won't do: move to Smackdown. He's done everything to do on Raw, except really put over Jericho (I don't count the meaningless Raw match post-WMXIX). On SD, he'd have fresh stuff to do w/ pretty much everyone on the roster.

Have him come back, get revenge on Snitsky, then ship him to SD during the next re-draft (assuming they do one, which I don't see why they wouldn't).

Actually, it would be get revenge on Edge. Snitsky killified KANE, not Shawn. Snitsky just happened to go about it the same way Kane killified Shawn.

I agree with Spaceman Spiff, Smackdown and its roster are the only thing he has not conquered. I do believe he would be the first person to hold the Raw and Smackdown title if he does go there, so there is some inscentive. Minus Taker and RVD, HBK hasn't worked full programs with Eddie, Kurt, Booker, Rey and Cena. Any of those fueds would be money makers and help bring some prestiage back that JBL's title reign has ruined.

Can we have a match...just one...pitting the Showstopper against the Most Electrifying Man in Sport's Entertainment Today. That's right the Rock vs Shawn Michaels. That's the match I'd push for at Mania. Would Angle vs Michaels be better? Probably, but they'll (presumably) be around for the whole year, while the Rock may only have one match a year. They've never faced each other and this would be a great match. Icon vs Icon. Think about it.....

If not that, the give Edge the title at NYR and have him face HBK at Mania. That would really give Edge the rub.

He could move to Smackdown, but I don't want him to do that. For one, hate Smackdown. Even when it is better than Raw, it still has that taped feel that always makes it feel second string. Secondly, besides Guerrero and Angle, there are no real dream matches on Smackdown. Maybe another go around with Undertaker, but that's been done.

And on Raw, HBK could still do extended feuds with Batista, Flair, Orton, Benoit (never had a one on one PPV match), Christian, and Edge.

He's already feuded with Batista, Benoit, and Christian, maybe they didn't get one on one ppv matches, but it's still not anything new. Orton and Flair stink at this point so I have no desire to see them feud with HBK. Edge is the only one on the list I'd like to see. After that he should feud with some Smackdown guys. Eddie, Angle, Mysterio, even Big Show. Or he could take a young guy (Haas?) under his wing as his tag team partner, that's really when Edge's big rise started when he tagged with Hogan. Plus if there is a draft this year, maybe Smackdown will get other people he hasn't feuded with too, there's really no telling what the rosters will look like after the draft if there is one.

I think an HBK vs Eddie fued would produce some great matches, and Angle and him could tear the house down, if both get healthy. Other than that, i dont see much for him to do, except win the title, but then we get to hear a billion IWC types talk about "new blood being held down" again.

Bad Blood 2003: Ric Flair pinned Shawn Michaels (many rematches occurred)

Unforgiven 2003: Randy Orton pinned Shawn Michaels (Michaels won rematch on Raw, IIRC)

Armageddon 2003: Shawn Michaels pinned Batista

January-May 2004: Michaels feuded with Benoit, including two PPV main events and at least one Raw singles match from Phoenix

That leaves feuds with Edge and Christian. Sorry, as much as the IWC likes Christian, he is a midcarder and nothing more. Talented? Sure. Charismatic? Yep. Do people take him seriously? Not a chance. He's a solid midcard heel who can contend for the IC and tag titles (I'd go in this direction with Tomko at the moment, as an aside), but no more than that. A feud with Shawn would be a waste because nobody would take Christian seriously in the process, and even if he did win he's not close enough now that the win would make a difference.

Shawn vs. Edge should be the WrestleMania feud, whether the title is in the picture or not. It has been set up perfectly through the Taboo Tuesday storyline, and really could be a hell of a match. It would be a great chance to put Edge over, the way they should have done Jericho two years ago. After that, though, there is little else for Michaels to do on Raw. Let him go to Smackdown, where at least he'll be freshened up with new opponents and we won't have the threat of another HHH feud hanging over Raw every time they run low on ideas.

Not to rain on any parades or pee on any lovefests for Shawn Michaels, because he does have good matches sometimes, but I don't remember a lot of the cited reasons for this unconditional love of him.

* He never put Jericho over in any meaningful way. Never.

* He did not put Benoit over one-on-one and tapping out in a three-way didn't really matter when he beat Benoit (via screwjob) in the crucial buildup to Wrestlemania when we were supposed to finally be taking Benoit seriously, and then had him handily beaten in Phoenix, post-Backlash, when HHH interfered. This is actually what I'd do with Shawn for Mania, while I'm on the subject at all, because I think a Benoit/Shawn match to settle a score that never got settled is pretty much a foolproof way to guarantee yourself a great match that means anything.

* "Putting over Edge" is a bit of a stretch at this point, seriously.

* "He is, literally, the show stopper, giving the shows a break from hard-sell writing and simply allowing the fans to enjoy a match between Micheals and anyone who needs to be established as a rising star (by losing to them)or someone staying in the midcard a while longer (by beating them)." - Matt Tracker

His entire storyline with HHH was hard-sell writing and anything but simply allowing the fans to enjoy a match between Michaels and someone who needed to be established or someone staying in the midcard, and the storyline with HHH has been about 90% of his existence.

Michaels also has never put over a rising star since his comeback, and the only time he lost to one was Randy Orton at Unforgiven '03 by screwjob at the start of Orton's push when he was a bogus Legend Killer. Other than establish that he was a cheater, this didn't really help Orton. Orton never really picked up any steam until the Foley angle, frankly.

He also doesn't beat midcarders very often because he doesn't wrestle them very often. I can remember Batista at Armageddon '03, which was a shit match, and Christian at some point this year which I don't really remember at all, but I assume it was at least okay. So matches against midcarders aren't really anything substantial in his resume over the last couple years.

* Just as an aside, Michaels can't cut his hair because he'd look even balder. I mean, just saying.

I dunno, I just wanted to throw in a different perspective than "Shawn Michaels is the awesomes!!" because I'm not really a big fan and never have been, and I just don't see where all this great stuff he's done since his comeback has been.

I would LOVE a HBK heel turn, not many people can make the crowd hate a person as much as HBK, imagine him in Canada rubbing in the screwjob, Michaels is priceless as a heel, he was the heart and soul of DX.

How about move HBK to the Intercontinental title picture?

He could wrestle Shelton, Christian and Edge and it would feel right. Watching him wrestle Christian you know HBK is going to win, but move him down to the IC level and it opens him up for a loss to some new WWE talents. The same can be said by moving him to Smackdown and letting him stay in the United States title picture. HBK would be a great mid card champion wrestling the guys that need pushes.

If you put him in the world title picture he makes a great contender and champion, but he fails as for two reasons. One reason is Jim Ross always mentioning his back injury and playing every match as his last. The second reason is he will be wrestling the same guys he has always wrestled. You keep him on Raw and he wrestles all the guys everyone else has mentioned. You put him on Smackdow we get three "IWC Dream Matches" Angle,Booker, and Eddie; We also get stuck with JBL and Undertaker.

So I say drop him a notch and let him be the measuring stick for the mid carders.

I seem to recall the HBK/Christian match being not so good and that it really hammered home the point that the WWE thinks Christian is a career midcarder, since HBK kicked out of the Unprettier and finished him off with the Sweet Chin Music rather quickly. It was kind of stupid because they had an ok little feud going at that point and feuding with HBK might have actually done something for Christian more than holding the IC title 8765 times ever did.

I'd really like to see HBK put someone over meaningfully, but I don't see it happening as long as he's HHH's opponent of choice.

So are you blaming this on Michaels? That's what you seem to be doing, and if so, I don't fully agree with you. Does HBK still wield significant power based on who his friends are and how long he's been with the company? Sure he does. But I see him not putting over people as being mroe the doing of Vince and the bookers. I haven't heard a lot of stories about HBK refusing to job in the last two years. In fact, I haven't heard any. IIRC (and I could be way off) didn't he want to do the job for Jericho at WM XIX?

You point out how he didn't put Orton over clean, but it's not like there is a rash of heels winning big matches clean lately. Obviously getting a clean win over someone is the ideal situation, but that's simply not what the WWE does these days.

Anyway, those are my thoughts, and I must admit I'm an HBK fan from wayback, so feel free to rip me apart.

book someone to look strong, tyhey should get over, especially a heel Christian with his mic skills.

Put the man in a stupid costume, expect him to look like a joke.

But yeah, move Micheals to Smackdown. Lots of fresh feuds the WWE can screw up. If Lesnar comes back that'd be a good feud as well.
