I couldn't disagree more- it's a classic that I've never tired of. The screechy version sung by Sherri was way, way worse.

Great themes off the top of my head;

- Story of the Year's cover of "Just Close Your Eyes".
- Alter Bridge does Edge's theme.
- CM Punk's.
- Drew McIntyre's.
- The Miz's.
- Swagger's.
- Sheamus'.
- Rhode's, sadly the best part you don't hear often. The rest is still preyy good though.
- The Nexus theme before it got over played (and then supplanted by Punk's).

All very distinctive and fits those wrestlers. ANd very, very catchy.

Ah, and "OHHHHHHH RADIO, TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU KNOW".

After a (very) long hiatus, I have begun to write again. And this time, I'm not alone!

The ORIGINAL Christian opera theme with the full lyrics on the titantron was EPIC! So of course, they cut the balls off of it and made it about 80% less interesting...kinda like their wrestlers. HUZZAH!

MVP is the answer to this question though.

Speaking of themes, this year's Wrestlemania theme is poopoo stinky.

What, no love for Mickie James' theme? (dodges tomatoes)

Seriously, though...I can think of a few:

John Morrison's theme - complete with the light show that is his entrance. I caught Smackdown's taping here, it lit up the entire arena.

He Who Must Not Be Mentioned's theme: I am a huge Our Lady Peace fan. Nuff said.

Waylon Mercy: Creepy character, creepier theme.

Zack Ryder: Oh Radio indeed. He's easily one of the most underused and underrated wrestlers in the WWE, and it upsets me. The music rules, as well.

Kane: Slow Chemical was pretty decent, too.

Steve Austin: His DISTURBED theme was a lot of fun.

From there he just really responded to the way people's skulls felt on his foot.
When did that footage of Orton buying a gun turn up? Gotta figure it all came together right around then, as it would make sense to arm yourself once you've been warned of the coming end times and the streets running with blood and all that. The thing with Orton is, between The Voices Who Council Him and the rage blackouts they mentioned back when he revealed his struggles with Intermittent Explosive Disorder, there's really only two ways his character arc can payoff for next year's Road to Wrestlemania: he really is guided by a snake god that knows about the 2012 cataclsym or he has a massive, undiagnosed brain tumor.
My theory is a series of devastating, untreated concussions that he took with an inadequate recovery time for each, culminating with him suffering a Tombstone Piledriver on the grandest stage of all.

I think he switched themes before but I'm pretty sure the brain trauma was what started him living the song.

Guys, guys. We all know what caused Orton's to snap and become a sadist was when that unflattering picture of him in nothing but a tiny, diminutive-genitals-obscuring fanny-pack was released. I still have nightmares about that.

I always thought Matt Hardy's lyrics were "Ohhh yeah...I just ate a tomato". Also, the Rob Zombie theme Edge used as a babyface in the early aughts, my brother and I used to sing: "Dodge Durango, back in '95, take me to the home-team, beef-tank, smoker's louunge", because the lyrics were pretty incomprehensible.

Miz is good. Drew is decent. I miss Taker's old one he was using around '98, I think it was the ministry theme. It had these odd asides, like a choir going "OH" repeatedly and that high pitched bridge. In fact, all of Taker's themes were good. "You're Gonna Pay" consists of lyrics that sound like an angry abusive father chasing a disobedient child around the house, threatening vengeance. "You've done it now!"

Triple H's, of course, is awesome, but I especially like the lighting effects and the way he times his actions to the music. Always spitting the water at a certain point, and so on.

I think pretty much all the WWE themes I really like have already been mentioned, so switching to non-WWE:

I loved TNA's theme for LAX, and the accompanying entrance video. TNA's Christian theme was good, too. I also loved WCW's theme for Goldberg, Sting (both the Surfer sting, and the one circa Starrcade '97), "Voodoo Child" for Hollywood Hogan, Diamond Dallas Page, the most recent two Four Horsemen themes, and the nWo Wolfpac.

OMG! Speaking of timing in entrances.
Last week we noticed that the Bellas did a high5 at exactly the moment there is a handclapping sound in their theme. WOW! That is REAL twin magic!

So basically what we can conclude that themes are really good and the last good one was "right now"

Partially because they get actual performers to record them.
OR they buy the rights to use them.
Metalingus and This Fire were afaik not written for the wrestlers but damnit does it work. I think the same goes for Drew's song. The real version by the band is differently cut.

There are very few "generic metal themes" going around right now. At least not as soon as you've established yourself on the roster a little.
Even Daniel Bryan managed to get a very recognizable tune.
I think it helped when he mentioned how he didn't know his own song to the Miz And look at him now!

See, this may sound stupid, but I liked the themes more when they were themes and not actual songs. My favorites are the ones that had no lyrics, that you just hear the beat and you know it was on. For instance, Stone Cold's 'breaking glass' one; you heard the shatter and you were sure shit was about to go down. Other examples of my favorites would be Jake the Snake, the Ultimate Warrior, the Undertaker early versions, and even Hakushi. They didn't need words or lyrics to make their entrances better. To me, that's the problem with a lot of today's themes; the WWE just seems content to pick a song off the charts or something to use as a theme. Not that I don't like some of the themes they use today (Zack Ryder and Kofi Kingston in particular come to mind as two good ones). I just can't care for the themes like I used to.

This was the point I was trying to make. There just isn't the same signature sound to themes anymore. They used to taylor the song to the wrestler. Now it seems like they just have a pile of songs and give them out.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. Stone Cold, The Rock, Razor Ramon, nWo, Mr. Perfect (!), Ultimate Warrior, Goldberg, Harlem Heat. Tons of stuff like that. You could call that "generic" I guess, but to me it was the exact opposite. Swap Mr. Perfect's theme with, say, Razor Ramon, and it would seem pretty out of place, no? Those songs just seemed to personify their users.

There have been a handful of theme songs with lyrics over the years that I enjoy (HBK's, Real American, D-X's, Cena's, some others) but IMHO lyrics usually end up making the theme song sound cheesy. I think Zack Ryder's theme is good and it fits him but that's because he's a pretty cheesy, douchey character. Almost every other current theme song seems interchangeable and borderline cheesy. Like if you switched Randy Orton's theme song with The Miz's, I don't think it would take long for us to accept it.

I definitely liked the 'music' better around the Attitude area, because when that music hit there was no doubt who it belonged to and who was about to make an appearance. Now, although I've been watching a bit more leading up to Mania, I still can't really differentiate too easily the theme music for Orton, Punk, Sheamus, Miz, Ziggler, etc. The ones who stick out for me are Santino, Taker, Edge, Cena, and a small handful of others.

I'm torn. Part of me says using already-recorded "real" music by "real" artists legitimizes wrestlers in the pop culture. The other part misses the organic creative process used by Jim Johnston that provides the most approproate themes. Just because you add a wrestler's soundbyte to the beginning of the song ("AWESOME!") doesn't make it the best fit.

If you replace horns with the electronic guitar beats of Rock's If ya Smell is supposed to come off as a king entering his hall. Minus Sheamus and Miz's themes most of the new themes are rather bland. I do like Bryan using Valkyrie, but he should get a bad ass theme like Benoit had. One of the great parts of Attitude Era was the music. Even Wrestlemania had some good theme. My Way to me will always be Wrestlemania. I don't mind real bands using themes as long as they fit the character, Edge is a perfect example of that.

Much like Ekedolphin alluded to, the only thing I like about Orton's current theme is the way that the lighting flickers during certain portions of his song. But I love his previous theme 1000 times more than the "Voices" song.

Drew's theme is the best thing going today, and Edge's theme is great too. Finally, Jack Swagger's theme is great, but not half as great as his chest pounding ritual during the song.
