Can we use it as an opportunity to remind you that a grandchild (or two!) is probably what they want more than anything?

Dad - a bathrobe and slippers, as he was in hospital at the time.

Mom - a framed portrait of the grandkids, and fruit-of-the- month subscription.

The last presents I got them when they were still healthy was a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant, which they later re-gifted to my Aunt.

I have in many ways been closer to my in-laws for years, and Mrs. t-o-n and I always give a donation in her Dad's name to the local foodshare (his standard request).

For her mom, a flowering plant and a day at the spa (massage, nails, facials, etc.). She and her friends go together twice a year, usually a week or so before Easter and a week or two before Thanksgiving.

I got my mother a super-ultra George Forman Grill thing for her most recent birthday on 6/29. Removable dishwasher-safe plates, temperature gauge with timer, and large enough to cook four burgers at the same time if you want. Such a great invention.

I don't remember the last present I got my dad but then I haven't talked to him for over 2 years now. But it was probably a couple ties, he always wore button up shirts and ties everywhere he went.

My mom, I remember because I just do. She was going blind from Diabetes and she was hiding it from us. This is sad, but she said she was embarassed by it and didn't want to be a 'bother' to me and my dad, which was stupid.

I bought her a cd disc changer and told her she could put all 27 of the cd's she owned in it, and she could use the remote to skip to which ever one she wanted to listen to.

Last thing I got for my dad was a book on the ships of the US Navy (hes a 25 year vet). He loved it and is the only book on his coffee table.

I havent spoken to my mother in over a decade, with the exception of hello at a funeral, so I dont recall the last thing I got her, or when her birthday is for that matter.

For my mother: a handmade woolen shawl.

For my father: I pooled resources with my brothers and bought him a new carburetor for his beloved Dodge, as he could not make the stock carburetor work any more.

Dad got me Wrestlemaina this year and my mother gave me 50.00 bucks. Which gave right back to her to pay for my payment of the internet cost.

***EDIT***

Apparnetly last night I couldn't read the question. I took my father out to eat and I usually get my Mom Boyds bears since she collects them.

I bought my mom a pair of earrings for her birthday and got the matching bracelet for Mother's Day. Hey, I'm on a budget.

All my Dad wanted for his birthday was a new Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner and that long brush thing that gets the hidden lint from out of your dryer filter. Yep, he's a strange man...

EDIT: I forgot to say diamond earrings and bracelet because other wise, I'd look like a cheap ass.

Once upon a time, a woman was picking up firewood. She came upon a poisonous snake frozen in the snow. She took the snake home and nursed it back to health. One day the snake bit her on the cheek. As she lay dying, she asked the snake, "Why have you done this to me?" And the snake answered, "Look, bitch, you knew I was a snake."

I have an idea but I haven't run it by Aaron yet because I'd probably want to split it with him 'cause it's kinda pricey.

Technically, I'm now late as Dad's birthday is TODAY, but my out is I'm waiting until I can get to Modesto to give them their gift (that is, the gift that isn't me showing up at their place - which is some other kinda gift altogether) - besides I still have a couple weeks before Mom's birthday. ;-)

My parents have decided to get THEMSELVES a new giant gas grill, so apparently one of my gifts will be to char some kind of meat for them when I'm there and also be jealous and envious of the big shiny barbecue I can't have for myself until we move to a place with a back yard.

Dad always wants golf balls for his birthday. He'll use them and if I give them to him he doesn't have to buy them.

Mom always wants a gift certificate for a massage at a local day spa or a gift certificate from a book store so she can buy her "historical romance" novels.

While off-topic (sorry...) I always pay the entry fee for Dad and I to play in a 2-man golf tournament over Father's Day weekend - I think he likes that more than any other thing I could give him.

My father's recently taken up Texas Hold'em Poker, so I bought him a starter-ish set: it includes everything needed for a night of poker fun: chips, cards, and most importantly: INSTRUCTIONS.

A side note: My father turned 59 this year, so I bought him a cake: HAPPY 60th BIRTHDAY was written on it, but with the 60 crossed out and a 59 written above it.

I'm SOOOO glad my father has a good sense of humour.

My girlfriend and I flew out to see my folks for my mom's birthday, since it was right before Thanksgiving and she loves it when we come out to visit.

For my father this past year:

The Chuck Norris Collection (1984) (The W at Amazon)

Includes:

Delta Force
Delta Force 2
Missing In Action
Missing In Action 2 & 3

He loves those movies, but my mother... not so much.

This year, I bought my mom a DS Lite because her last one died from overuse. And I tried to buy my dad tickets to see Norm MacDonald but the show got cancelled (you may consider this a blessing depending upon your tastes) so he just had me get him a couple of Blu-Ray movies instead (Iron Man and the new Indiana Jones). Not very exciting.

My parents aren't around but we send my wife's mother a floral arrangement as she loves having them around and really like the FTD delivery. Her dad usually receives a book from us or a gadget he doesn't need as he is into gadgets. We are 1000 from where they live so a call is also a "present".

My last birthday gift to my mother was to take her to the local riverboat casino, hand her a couple $100s, and tell to go teach those slot machines a thing or two.

On my workout days, four days a week, I drink a total of 24ozs a day. I use 12ozs to mix my two Muscle Milk protein shakes for my pre and post workout drinks. The other three days a week I don't really touch the stuff.
