Another thread just made me think about Excess and how it sucks. So badly. I was thinking what they could do to make a different show that would be worth showing. I don't mean to necessarily make it a ratings giant, but just to make it watchable for the hardcore fanes (which is probably equivalent to about the 1.0-2.0 ratings it gets anyway).

I have two alternatives:

A) A cruiserweight/Super Astros type show. There is a market for this with hardcore fans. Surely the ratings wouldn't go down...?

B) A proper "Classics" type program. Not like the UK's "Wrestling Classics" which is just "Wrestling Challenge" from 15 years back, but a new show featuring archive material ala Excess's "From the Vault" segment. Replay old fueds, from both WWF and WCW. Buy the ECW footage and really go to town. Damn, I'd watch it anyway.

Of the two, I reckon WWF would be more amenable to the second idea, especially after the positive reaction to the nostalgia laden clip they showed this week.

Anybody else got any ideas?

Well, come the split, I see it as a viable two hours for a wrestling/recap show like Heat. I mean, that was what it was supposed to be in the first place right? With WCW?

One faction gets Heat/Jakked, one gets Excess.

What I would do is take the “From the Vault” segments and turn them into the entire show. Two hours of nothing but classic matches from the WWF and WCW. Maybe they could even try and split up the show evenly, giving one hour to WWF classic matches and the other hour to WCW.

Thoughts?

For now they should combine the Heat and Jakked matches into one new wrestling show and make heat the recap show.
If and when "the split" occurs, we get the return of "WCW Saturday Night,"

I would definitely watch or tape it if if was turned into more of a classics show. I mean, geez, they already recap the past week to death on Jakked & Metal, do they have to do it on Excess too?

I only watch Excess when they have a guest I'm really interested in on. Like Flair, HBK, and the time they had Good 'ol J.R. on.

Maybe the near-universal praise the new Desire video is receiving will prompt them to do something of that nature. They don't have to totally turn Excess into Classics, but they could limit the recaps to the first hour or something. It's just so redundant.

I hope it doesn't turn into just another recap show. They could easily have two one hour recap shows with Jakked and Metal.

I'd like to think (still knowing it'd never happen) that they could do something different.

I do really like the idea of the WWF Classics program, but I doubt they'd ever honestly do that.. they don't even show us full matches on 'From the Vault' for the most part.. I honestly see it slowly becoming more of a full blown talk show type show, with the guests and all.. kind of Byte-This TV.

Yeah, I just think it's a shame. Especially when they're sitting on all that footage. How exactly do you make the WWF listen? It wouldn't have to be a two hour show, just an hour slot would do. I figure I'd rather watch classic reruns on Jacked than not watch stuff I watched a couple of days ago that week. I mean Jacked and Metal are almost the same show. Do they really need them both?

Yes we do.. because VKM said so!

HAIL Vince!

Anyway.. I think that we'll be stuck with both Jakked and Metal for quite a while, just because they're used to appease the undercarders who don't get timeslots elsewhere.. and Vince recognizes the value of having a happy roster.

I always thought Excess should've been a SportsCenter type of show. Sure, recap the major events of the week, but keep that to a minimum, maybe only a total of 20-30 minutes devoted to recaps and spread that recap time throughout the 2 hour program. Don't show entire clips from Raw/Smackdown, just highlights. Like in SportsCenter, they don't show a whole inning of baseball, just a homerun. They don't show an entire press conference, just small sound bites. Keep the Raw/Smackdown recaps to that. Then, use the rest of the time doing the old Superstars type things showing the wrestlers at home or at autograph signings or outside of wrestling, like Jericho at the Celebrity Hockey Game. Also, devote some time to do updates on the "minor leagues" like the HWA and the goings on in their farm systems. Interview some of the veterans who are down there and some of the up and comers, kind of a "first look" to who's on their way to the WWF. Add in the special guest interview of the week and a "From the Vault" section, and I think you'd have a decent show.

Excess this week will have geust host Sgt. Slaughter. The show's "from the vault" is focusing on memorable Wrestlemania matches until Wrestlemania. I have a feeling I know what the "vaul" match will be this week...

I think they should take excess, cut it down to an hour, and just show Flair/Steamboat matches everyweek...
Or,
I would like a crusierweight show, but I don't see them doing that. Turning it into sort of a Byte This for TV wouldn't be so bad of an option, if it meant they would then do less recapping on Heat.
Or,
They could just kill it altogether. It's just not a great timeslot.

Insert clever comment.

I don't know if poor interview skills is a fair argument against anyone, whether it be RVD, Kevin Nash, or someone else.
