What the WWE really needs now is some serious shock value.

Good example: Some nudity during the PPV? You can get away with pretty much anything on PPV shows, right?

A shocker of a title switch? Admit it -- you were shocked when Angle won the WWE (then not undisputed) title. Remember the shock and reaction when Jericho won the title but lost it about fifteen minutes later to HHH?

I think having Bischoff as Raw's GM is a great way to start...but Steph as Smackdown GM? Nah. She has chemistry on screen with Jericho, HHH and Angle, but we should get someone who has legit heat with McMahon.

The answer: Bret Hart!

It's not as shocking as it may sound. I mean, look at Bischoff in the WWE. It was a long time ago when WCW was whupping the (then) WWF in the ratings, and Bischoff had some serious heat with McMahon. Those two hated each other, right?

Now, those two put their differences aside to work together on a great (yet wounded) product. For Bischoff, it's probably his last chance to make a splash in the wrestling world, and to be seen nationally. For McMahon, it's a chance to prove the Internet pundits wrong, and to shock the smarks -- working side by side with the (former) sworn enemy, and to breathe new life (and maybe character) into his shows. FOr both, to quote a movie title, it's all about the Benjamins. Or here in Canada; it's all about the Lauriers, the Bennetts, the Queens, etc. etc. It's all about money.

For Hart, it's easy. Does the Hitman want one more shot at the wrestling spotlight, abeit in a non-wrestling capacity? Can he put away his differences with McMahon and shock the world? I believe he can. Money can do a lot of things, as can fame, fortune, and TV airtime.

Lord knows he won't get any TV time or such on NWA-TNA, or any other start up promotion.

I, for one, would KILL to see Hart join the WWE again. He could be the manager of the Anti-Americans (I guess they're not known as Team Canada), and show the world his heel side again.

Once again, if Bischoff (who nearly killed the WWE years ago) can work in the WWE, then maybe Bret Hart can, too.

And that's what the WWE fans could use...a shocker of a signing, and a bonafide out-of-left-field decision.

Heck, it's better than signing Russo!

And to quote Jim Ross: Anyhting can happen in the WWF (well, WWE).

Comments?

Its my understanding that since his stroke Bret has not been well enough to do anything save try to recuperate, much less become an on-air personality on a weekly tv show

Bret Hart would make a fantastic choice for a GM or any other role but the thing is that he cant move his left side very much and with all the traveling I dont think Bret would be able to take, and besides Bret hates Vince.

But what about when he's 100%?

That would be correct. Bret is nowhere near any condition to start making appearances for anyone. He's got a long row to hoe. I hope Bret makes a full recovery and can someday return to WWF TV in some capacity.

A nice big fat shock would be Funaki getting a title shot just like TAKA did. Except Funaki WINS.

I don't care if he has to play a Mikey Whipwreck role. MAKE FUNAKI CHAMP NOW.

I'd love to see Bret back in action, but he has had innumerable opportunities to bury the hatchet with WMK and get back in a WWF/E ring and hasn't taken any of them. I don't know why he'd decide to come back now.

By the way, even leaving aside the effects of Bret's stroke, has the concussion he suffered as a result of Goldberg's superkick, which essentially ended his career, fully resolved such that he could wrestle again? I sure don't want Bret to come back if he's going to be in Shawn Michaels' current role

To summarize:

Bret Hart is medically unable to appear on a weekly TV show
Bret Hart will be medically unable for the forseeable future to appear on a weekly TV show
Bret Hart blames Vince McMahon for his brother's death
Bret Hart blames Vince McMahon for the failure of his marriage
Bret Hart probably blames Vince McMahon for the deaths of Brian Pillman and Davey Boy Smith
Bret Hart blames Goldberg for ending his career
Bret Hart probably blames Eric Bischoff for any of various possible indiscresions in WCW

Bret Hart hates Vince and Eric. He's not coming back.

What the WWE really needs is to return to well defined storylines. Screw the short term stuff and return to long term planning.

I can't agree with you more. The short term stuff is killing the TV shows. Too many angles recently have either burned out in a month or are just dropped for no reason.

A good shocker and a unique storyline/gimmick to develop would be an all-female heel stable. Now is probably the best time to do this idea, and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw one soon, unless the WWE is going to leave the women behind in its attempt to bring itself back up.

I was? What was shocking about that?

This "shock value" talk is reminding me off Russo-era WCW, so I'm begging you to stop.

Remember what got the WWF huge ratings? Austin vs McMahon (long-term feud), Hunter vs Rocky (long-term IC and World title feuds), uber-heel HHH vs the world (long term), HHH vs Foley (three months! when was the last time THAT happened?)...the list goes on.

Can you even name a "career foil" for a young WWE superstar? You can for Austin (Vince), Rock (HHH), maybe Jericho (HHH or Benoit), but who else? Taker, Flair, and Hogan transcend the current era, so they don't count.

Remember how we said that HHH and Rocky took each other (and the WWE) to a new level with their feud, busting out new moves on a regular basis, creating unreal intensity in their promos, etc?

When did this become a bad idea?

I wish I could tell you when. Someone in the WWF creative area has pushed many panic buttons. I don't think they realize that, even though ratings have fallen, they are nowhere near where they were in the mid-90's.

I feel that Mick Foley was really responsible for getting HHH over as a super-duper heel... God, I hated HHH for retiring Cactus! Mick was very unselfish... maybe there isn't enough of that going around anymore? Are guys too worried about protecting their spots and not losing any heat?

I would like to add, Rocky vs. Foley and then Rocky WITH Foley...How long did those 2 appear on screen together?

I disagree. Remember when Bret was leading the Hart Foundation from a wheelchair? That was damned cool! The more incapacitated he is, the more exciting it'll be when HBK gives him the Sweet Chin Music.

You know, I shouldn't laugh, but I would if HBK super kicked someone in a wheelchair. Especially Bret.

I think that is a lot of the problem with wrestling today. There is no more shocking left to do. They went as far as they could and now thay have hit a wall. What are they gonna do? We have seen an old women give birth to hand. We have seen piss and vomit. We have seen tits and ass. Hell, it was not intentional and yes it was tragic but we have seen a man fall to his death. Take "shock" jock Howard Stern for example. He has done everything he could get away with and now there is nothing left. Look at his ratings now.

I am afriad that the only thing the fans haven't seen enough of is WRESTLING. Who knows, it just might work.
