World heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis (C) defends himself as former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson (R) approaches at the start of a brawl between the two at a news conference January 22, 2002 in New York. The news conference was held to promote their upcoming fight scheduled for April 6, 2002 in Las Vegas. The news conference was cancelled. (Peter Morgan/Reuters)
Ok I'm the one always defending my childhood hero Tyson. But, I'm really starting to see that this guy is fucking pycho. Well at least they got some extra publicity......as if they needed more anyway.

| #2 Posted on 22.1.02 2152.09 | Not to be your anti-thesis but I didn't even know these two were fighting until Mike attacked him! This whole thing just stinks of a publicity stunt. What is this? The third time a "brawl" between competitors has happened recently? Not to mention the whole Tyson crotch grab was entirely too staged for me.
If this isn't a work...then Mike needs to get out of the ring and into a padded cell. He's got some serious issues.
And let me say that your background totally rocks!

I think it is a quasi-work, if such a thing exists. I'm anxious to see it because I think Lewis will beat Tyson like a gong, though if that happens Tyson will probably just disqualify himself again.

| #7 Posted on 23.1.02 0421.09 | S³ is right. Tyson made it so easy for the Nevada Boxing people to suspend him again. Of course they want to get paid too. But, I think Tyson was looking at someone who is 10 inches taller and he was scared. So he did the only thing his primative mind could think of.....he attacked. If this fight get postponned then I'm though with Tyson forever. Maybe then Vince can have his 80's dream fufilled...sign Mike Tyson and have him "box" the Butterbeans and Bart Gunns of the world.

| #8 Posted on 23.1.02 0432.53 | What I want to know is, how were Tyson and Lewis even able to concentrate on fighting when there was a GIANT Asian chick in a bikini standing next to them? One would think they'd be running in horror. (Because of the giant part, not the bikini part. No, YOU'RE gay. Damn.)

| #10 Posted on 23.1.02 0731.56 | I've suspected since the weigh-in fight between Lewis and Rahman that these “fights before the fight” were worked.
After this latest incident between Tyson and Lewis, I think my suspicions have been all but confirmed.
But if I'm wrong, and this was yet another example of Tyson going psycho, I don't think his license should ever be re-instated in Las Vegas. Ever.
Of course, if you really want my opinion, I'm of the opinion that after Tyson's rape conviction, he should never have been allowed near a boxing ring again. What the hell kind of example is this setting, anyway?
“Hey, you can be convicted of a felony, but when you're released, we'll let you box again. Even though you cause an incident before/during/after every single fight.”
He should be locked up again, this time for much, much longer.

| #11 Posted on 23.1.02 0804.57 | This is what I heard happened. And being a person who occasionally gets on the internet, I know everything
This was supposed to be a work that got out of control. Tyson was supposed to run up to Lewis and stage a confrontation. Then, Lewis's bodyguard got kind of rough, forgetting this was a setup (or maybe he just remembered what kind of psycho Tyson is) and Tyson went nuts, swining at the bodyguard. Now, the word is that during the ensuing melee, Tyson bit Lewis leg (that's not his heart or his children, Mike!), an 81 year old member of the athletics commission was knocked unconscious, and Tyson taunted people in the crowd to come on the stage and fight him (which I personally thought was the most pyscho part of the whole thing).
Its just sad because Tyson has a reputation and he knows it. So instead of trying to play it down, he plays it up and ends up either making it worse or trying to defend his actions, and then making it worse.

| #12 Posted on 23.1.02 0919.20 | So the Nevada Boxing Commission says no and then the rest of the state commissions say no - that just forces the fight overseas to some Third World country that thinks they will make out like bandits by charging Don King & Showtime/HBO lots of money to host the fight while in reality all but a few of the host country officials will get skunked & screwed.......unfortunately, Tyson will always have someplace willing to let him fight

| #13 Posted on 23.1.02 0955.16 | The latest theory I've heard is that Tyson never really wanted the match, but all the handlers and promoters knew it was going to be a big payday so they pressured him into it (problem with theory: how the hell do you pressure Mike Tyson into doing something he doesn't want to do?). Mike knew that doing what he did would probably cause the Nevada commision not to reinstate his license and therefor cancel the fight.

| #14 Posted on 23.1.02 0959.10 | See all this proves that Tyson really does have mental problems. And now they're saying that they might have proof that he raped another girl. What will they do if it goes to trial... say he has mental problems and he'll probably get away with it. Although I'd personally like to see Lewis put a whoopin to him I think Tyson is a little to crazy to control. I'm just happy that when he did wrestling before he wasn't a total nut job. Imagine if he would of knocked out Austin.

| #15 Posted on 23.1.02 1033.22 | That was the theory I've been hinting at. Tyson has been running scared of Lennox for the last three years. He knows of the way he would look if he flat out declined. Tyson and Vince both suffer from the same condition: they both REFUSE to look weak. That's why you see stuff like this. If he doesn't want to fight, he's going to make sure that it's because somebody TOLD him he can't fight.

| #16 Posted on 23.1.02 1339.35 | Definitely staged. This is Mike Tyson, he's a pro boxer, at one point the best boxer in the World, the baddest man on the planet. He's not as good he once was but can still beat the crap out of a normal man, but in that "brawl" he missed the punch that he threw at the bodyguard. He's a boxer, if he really wanted to hit him, he would have.
This is Mike Tyson, not Shaquille O'Neal.
