Sadly, however, wrestling fans will chant/applaud for basically anything. When Nitro was here a few years ago, I distinctly remember the crowd literally chanting for EVERYONE who showed up: Penzer, the head of security, all the announcers, the refs... and, sadly, Larry. Hell, they got bigger pops than half the wrestlers.

one thing that really bugs me... if chris jericho is going to go around calling himself the living legend, he should have the COMMON FUCKING DECENCY to smack larry upside the head with a chair first. buncha savages.

| #25 Posted on 26.2.02 0235.05 | Instant Rating: 5.01 | The following announcement has been paid for by the New World Order.
I remember while I was watching WCW, Larry kept referring to his cage match at the Garden with Bruno Sammartino as proof that he's a living legend.
Uhh, you lost that match, didn't you, Larry?
I never saw a single Zbysko match, but I read an article about his wrestling style once. Seems he was the master of stalling-- annoying the hell out of his opponent by constantly leaving the ring and refusing to wrestle. Hmmm.
Living Legend, indeed. I realize Jericho's still young, but he's done more for the business than Larry Z ever has.
The one positive thing I can remember him doing was beating Eric Bischoff at Starrcade (although I didn't see the match). Had he not done that, we would've had nWo Monday Nitro-- and that's not a good thing, that's a bad thing. Especially after all the sucking up to Hogan that the nWo did during their one and only nWo Monday Nitro. Think “Wind Beneath Our Ring”, and multiply it by TEN. Seriously. Read CRZ's recap if you don't believe me.

In other words, an OLD SCHOOL HEEL.
He was a wrestler, that, in his prime, did NOTHING to get the fans to cheer for him, unlike the "cool" heels do today. He was a whiner, staller, cheater, cheap shot artist and perfect heel.
Some freinds of mine met Zbyszko years ago and found him very approachable, even sat for a few pictures.

| #31 Posted on 26.2.02 1848.43 | I actually liked Zbysko. He was a good AWA/WCW heel, and I thought he brought a good flavor to the WCW announcing table. I think WCW fans basically liked cheering for him because he was an old schooler who reminded them of the early days and since he didn't wrestle anymore they wanted to give him a little prop up. Plus he was a good guy as an announcer and I thus people are going to cheer for that more than for Lawler, Heenan or Mark Madden. So I'm not so mystified as to why fans chanted for him. Lighten up a little guys! He may not have had a great and long wrestling history and is not perfect but he can at least be admired for what he was and what he was attempting to acomplish behind the table.

| #33 Posted on 27.2.02 2309.55 | Larry was like wCw's worst announcer. God, Schiavonne was more tolerable. If you were blind, you would never have known what was going on. Now, Schiavonne at least attempted to call the moves and put over who he was told to put over, but Larry friggin' talked about himself constantly. If you only heard the show, you'd think he invented wrestling. He's one bitter, washed-up never was.

Back when I played N64 revenge alot I always made handicap matches putting the Outsiders vs Larry and he wouldn't get a single move in during the 10 minute squash.. That is how much I like Larry

For Vince to do that would mean giving free publicity to the WWA. Nice try, Larry.

| #37 Posted on 2.3.02 0000.58 | I consider myself a "smart" fan but I am a KAYFABE MANIAC!!!What ticks me off about Zbyszko is that he has (or had, depending on POV) many great things about him to the biz. Hell, I remember in 1987 when he handed Curt Hennig a roll of coins that ultimately cost Nick Bockwinkel the AWA World's Heavyweight Title. He was a monster heel in the AWA and WCW, and tended to always go along with the company plan. But when it comes to company loyalty and all, enough is enough when it comes to this situation.
Zbyszko's comments are not only off the mark, but just plain dumb, as is the whole standpoint to the way the WWA is trying to market themselves. If they truly want to be an alternative to the WWF, show it in what is done in-ring wise and storyline wise, and don't take cheap shots at Vince or Y2J. If the WWA put him up to it, they ought to feel embarassed. if Larry was behind it himself, he ought to feel ashamed. Either way, it makes the WWA look like shrubbery-- or in other words, Busch league. We have too much of that crap with XPW and other hack groups. | | Pages: Prev 1 2
