If he wins the match, or loses by anything even remotely resembling a screwjob, then he's seemingly confirming what the people who hate him already believe about him.

However, if he drops the belt totally clean to RVD, then what? The usual suspects will say that RVD is stuck with a "worthless title" and that Triple H will just move on to other things.

So, no matter how much analysis people go through with this match on Sunday, the people who hate Triple H now will still find reasons to hate him afterwards no matter what the outcome is. I don't see why ANYBODY thinks this match on Sunday will change ANYTHING about how people view the guy.

The reasons Triple H is hated by the majority of the internet community are just. Stephanie done more than her fair share of interference with everyone elses' favorite wrestlers just to get her boyfriend over since January 2000 and it's showing no signs of slowing down.

That said, he really is in a no-win situation with the critics on Sunday. The big mistake here was that this match was booked to happen way too early into the program. HHH & RVD should have held off their first match till Survivor Series at the very least. Instead, the WWE writing team decided to rush things as they always do (a writing philosophy that has even cost them their top star) and it's going to have a negative impact no matter what.

The best move for WWE this Sunday is to have HHH beat RVD via screwjob after RVD works circles around HHH. It's the only way to keep both characters hot after this match. It gives RVD grounds for a rematch and HHH can give stability to the new insignificant belt.

Apparently, not anyone with as much clout as Stephanie. Thankfully, he still has a releationship with Heyman to keep himself afloat.

Brock's push has been cut considerably since SummerSlam. He's had 1/2 of his title taken away and he's been made to look like he's afraid of HHH by going to another show.

The UT-Brock storyline has actually played out pretty well since both came to SMACKDOWN!, even though Brock "needed protection" from UT last Thursday it was pretty obvious that it was at Heyman's request since Brock was looking for a fight.

The big difference between Brock & HHH is that Brock is a worker that the writers are hotshotting to main event credibility to boost interest in the product, similar to UT in his early days. When Brock's push is up, it's more than likely that he'll slip into an upper-midcard feud for a while since he's still learning the ropes.

HHH, on the other hand, has been pushed and given incredible amounts of airtime to create the perception that he is The Man in the business, when it's been clear that Austin & The Rock still are even in their absences.

Brock beat Rock, Hogan, and all of those guys to get over, there's nothing wrong with that. The real test is going to be when it comes time for Brock to actually lose the title to a worthy contender at the appropriate moment. Hopefully, it won't be against HHH. HHH has failed this test in the past.

Actually, deep down I hope he does lose tomorrow. I just think for being as established as he is, they need a babyface who can be just as well, and RVD can bee a good candidate, I believe.

I think Trips should retain. Probably not cleanly though. I want a good elevation of RVD, and I think a couple months build to his big win of the World Title would help.

And I don't even like HHH.

I'm hoping HHH retains via blatant screwjob, too. They need to build up the credibility of both the belt, and RVD as a main eventer. Plus, how long has it been since we've had a months-long feud over a main title? Angle/Austin during Invasion? They need to build up the champs as people worth beating by letting them have a string of defenses, so it'll mean more when they actually get beaten.

Triple H losing the title tomorrow would be moronic. They need to slowly build the RVD push to the strap. Hotshotting it to the WWE's favorite pot smoking gymnast now would hurt more than help.

The last long multi-month title feud was when Jericho and Rock were feuding over the Belt With Many Names in late 2001. And that was really the last good feud that they've had. Personally I think the best thing they could do would be to elevate RVD tonight, and let HHH play the psychotic pissed off heel that so many people on the board seem to love seeing him do, and thus trying to destroy RVD over the coming weeks. It's not the title victory that will or won't elevate RVD, it's the being able to hang with and evade and overcome HHH's evil machinations if ever they're going to get RVD to the top.

No, the last long multi-month feud they had going was Triple H/Steph.

well, steph and hhh may have only been together since then, but he was getting shoved down everybody's throats since he turned hell in the middle of 99. he went over EVERYBODY, even though he was playing "cowardly heel" at points.. he took out austin, he took out rock, he won the 6 pack challenge, constant interview time, constantly involved in all major storylines.. the only time when he wasn't the "top guy" was when show had the title, and even then, show brought the belt down to almost mid-card levels while hhh still got his 20 minute interviews and main event feud with the boss, and then hhh whooped his ass and got the belt back.

Well, there is ONE outcome for tonight that would satisfy 'net fans: RVD wins in three seconds and HHH retires out of embarrassment immediately afterwards.

Dont forget the time he was on the shelf with his quad injury. And then they schilled him like he was the first wrestler in history to come back from an injury. All while benoit was recovering from the neck injury.

The proper thing for HHH to do is eventually put guys like RVD, Y2J, Booker T, and even Lesnar (down the road) over. The other thing is to stop doing the dull 20-minute promos; shut up and wrestle. But he doesnt want to do that. He isnt half as over as he thinks he is. He's his own biggest mark. He still wants to be the cool heel that refuses to give up the spotlight. Just like Hogan and Nash. It's what killed WCW and it's slowly killing RAW.

I have no problem with HHH going over if it will further the fued and RVD wins the title at the next PPV. They need to create the 'sympathetic face chasing the nasty heel' factor to solidify RVD as a major star.

So what about if there's a ref bump, RVD has him pinned twice with no ref, and Flair shockingly turns heel by sledgehammering RVD to allow HHH to hit the Pedigree?

Err...

I like, and am entertained by, Triple H. I think he makes a good champion. I would like to see him continue to main-event.

Just thought I'd add that.

Don't forget how everyone fawned on him in early 2000 after the Foley matches. Or is that another part of the revisionist history smarks employ so well?

It's easier to fawn over someone, or at the very least ignore political shenanigans or bad booking, when the main events are 4 and 5 star affairs. However not only does HHH go over every one now, but he can't justify his mega-push with extremely high quality in ring work anymore either.

You forgot to add... and he's twice as over as smarkies would like to believe.

However not only does HHH go over every one now
Do you even watch the shows or just read the smarkies?

Tazz and Cole may be a little bit better now with calling the standard TV stuff. But I think your right, Asteroid, when it comes to the big money match, J.R. is still the best play-by-play guy in the business.
