| #1 Posted on 11.3.02 0403.38 | Instant Rating: 8.00 | It's WrestleMania week people, the best time of the year for pretending to be a mark again! With that in mind, what two are you looking forwards to the most?
For me it's Taker-Flair and Rock-Hogan.
I'm really into Taker-Flair, and last week's TV really cemented that opinion. They way Taker beat down David Flair was awesome, and I really think they've got the dickishness factor (TM Scaia) going for him. Sure it's not going to be a technical classic, but I love the fact that the feud is based around a guy wanting a wrestling match, and then doing heinous things to get it. See? Base storylines around wrestling and I'm a happy camper!
Rock-Hogan has an even higher suck potential, but again, I think it'll be a blast. I can't even justify my pick here as it's years since Hogan has delivered in the ring, but the initial face off between the two really grabbed me and I'm happy to buy into the "wrestling's past vs wrestling's future" premise. Using history to build matches really is the way forward.
I know I'm probably out of the Smark club for not picking Y2J-HHH (which will probably be the best quality match), but there you go. I'm actually looking forwards to a lot of the card now, and I wouldn't have said that even 10 days ago.

In terms of storyline anticipation, yeah, I agree. Rock-Hogan and Undertaker-Flair are definitely the most anticipated matches in my mind due to the way they've been built up.
Y2J-HHH will probably be one of the best actual wrestling matches on the card, but the whole Stephanie thing has really made me disinterested in the match from a pure storyline perspective. I'll still enjoy watching the match, but it doesn't buy the PPV for me like the other two do. (Maybe we can talk again about the glass ceiling theory-- is the WWF pairing Jericho and Stephanie to try and completely destroy Jericho's heat?)
I am looking forward to RVD vs. Regal for the Intercontinental Title-- I'd love to see Regal get his ass kicked.
Austin/Hall should be fairly decent as well, and they've built up nicely towards it.
But really, Rock/Hogan is the drive-it-home selling point of WrestleMania XVIII. And well it should be.

| #3 Posted on 11.3.02 1157.50 | booker / edge. this match has a lot of potential, imo.
from an in-ring stand point, edge can make booker look good where other opponents have left him hanging. obviously i don't know who came up with what in the TLC matches but he's been involved in some ofthe most innovative bouts in the federation in a long time. by association, he's got a creative mind and can come up with interesting spots. if those spots come in the right places, this could be a very engaging match with an in-ring story.
booker is just a solid worker. he seems lost in the wwf but his effort has kept him afloat. i'm disappointed that he is only "afloat" at this point, but given the shit he's been involved with, that's something of an accomplishment. with the right opponent, he can deliver a solid match.
i'd really like this to turn into a feud. booker's character needs definition and a program with edge could provide that. it would have the potential to be the break out feud for both of them.
i'll be sorely disappointed if they stick edge back in the tag division with christian. it doesn't seem like he's gotten any mic time since the break up feud ended and that's an area where he really, really shines.

| #4 Posted on 11.3.02 1353.44 | It's Rock/Hogan for me. I can hardly wait in anticipation of Rock's first Wrestlemania, main event win. It's going to be a huge markout moment, and probably the highlight of a career that could be cut short by Hollywood.
Everything else is lumped together. Angle and Kane have had two very good t.v. matches, and hopefully the biggest ppv of the year will bring out an even better one. I may be crazy, but I think Austin/Hall is going to be a better match than HHH/Jericho. Hall impressed me on Smackdown and this is his chance to prove that he can hang with the main eventers. Plus i don't think Austin will let them have a bad match at Wrestlemania.

| #5 Posted on 11.3.02 1407.15 | No offence, but I tohught Hall sucked the high hard one on SmackDown. As you can see from my sig, I'm a big nWo supporter, but Hall's work wasn't too hot on Thursday night. Eh, I tihnk he'll turn it up a notch for Mania though.

| #6 Posted on 11.3.02 1939.24 | | Angle and Kane could be the sleeper... I'm actually looking forward to the women match, I think 2 out of 3 (trish/jazz) are great and they could carry Lita (if they are having a 3 way as I suspect) How sad is that the women title is more intersting to me then tags..LOL | Flash

| #7 Posted on 11.3.02 1939.42 | Despite involvement from the Internet Scourge(TM), I'm really looking forward to the Triple H-Chris Jericho match. Their Last Man Standing match was entertaining as hell and I think they can do even better this time around.
On a more Smarky level, I'm really interested to see just how they book this thing. Do they have the stones to let Jericho keep the belt one more time? Or do they finally give in and give Trip the belt and end Jericho's main event run? Jericho really hasn't had a fair shot at being a main event player what with the nWo angle getting center stage... but at the same time, Vince isn't known for his patience or his belief in the smaller wrestler. He's gotta be itching for a change right now.
Who wins this match will tell us a lot about just who wields the book backstage. And to me, that's probably as entertaining as anything else on this card... not to mention illuminating. |
