| #23 Posted on 23.4.06 1038.51 | Instant Rating: 5.12 | My uncle got me a subscription to Maxim last year for Christmas. That's all I get. But I page through the Signals catalog like it's a magazine most months.
I'll read a little bit of the newspapers at work, so it wouldn't really make sense to have a subscription. When I was in high school, my parents got me a subscription to Packer Plus, by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel staff. That was fun.

They also send ESPN - The Magazine to my house, but I'm not sure why. I didn't "win" it, request it, subscribe to it, sign up for anything on ESPN.com, turn some magical age that results in ESPN - The Magazine being given to me. I really have no idea why I get it.

No kidding. I signed up for a free trial for a local paper back East, and their service was terrible: missing papers, late deliveries...and when my free trial ended, and I chose not to continue the subscription, the paper still arrived, as did a bill that encompassed the papers I received during the previous weeks, the papers that still kept showing up on my door, and for the next three weeks.
Even ignoring the bills didn't seem to stop the subscription.

We have a little local paper out here that sends us a paper every Wednesday in the mail and they all end up in the trash at the post office. There is a reason, they have to officially report readership. That is why there are all these freebie type offers. The numbers determine ad rates. That is why it often takes an act of God to stop them.
