I mean, at least where I am, The Rundown was a pretty damn hot ticket at Blockbuster, and it's not like it got burned in theatres. Its numbers were pretty respectable before it went to home release. | eviljonhunt81

Nooooooooooooo!
If it was Rock's decision, fine- but if this was because of Vince then this remains a,
Noooooooooooooo!! situation
I can understand letting go of Hogan, Austin and Goldberg, the first two because of their physical condition and Bill because he has "trouble working with others" but The Rock? The Freakin' Rock has "parted ways"?!- I dont expect him to ever be part of the regular roster again but the man is not only one of the greatest of all time to me- (reference; every single time he has made a surprise appearance on RAW, mania match against Hogan, Austin -just off the top of my head) But he is still at a physical level where he can deliver a lot more great matches.
Apparently Rock's next role is as a homosexual, hopefully Vince didnt part ways because of that- because as he said on The Best Damn Sports Show, "his selection of material is... questionable."

I can't think that's the explanation. If anything, it sounds like maybe a wry joke Vince was making at the FCC/PTC's expense. Playing a homosexual in a movie is hardly as potentially alarming as the raunch that Vince used to greenlight for television. But it would be funny if he jokingly claimed he parted ways with the Rock because he was afraid of what his big-screen homosexuality would do to the teenage TV audience.
That said, I just went to Hulk Hogan's IMDB.com page. If that's not the definition of questionable material, I don't know what is. Questionable material can't be the reason. :)

It has, if I understand the specifics of it, everything to do with both side's unwillingness to bend in negotiation. Rock wants the rights to use the name "The Rock" (which is owned by the WWE) whenever he feels like it (which is about the same reason Austin decided to do the WWE Films deal, because now he gets the "Stone Cold" name back). On the other side of the table, Vince is only willing to "lease" the name "The Rock" to a movie with the cost being a production credit for WWE on all of Rock's films (and thus a share in any potential gross. The problem with this is, obviously, that many film companies would likely balk at just forking over a mound of cash to the WWE just because they hired The Rock, and meanwhile, McMahon believes that he's owed something because he trademarked The Rock's name and made it viable to start with.
So, as far as I understand, Rock will be Dwayne Johnson in movie credits until this thing is worked out, and it has nothing to do with his sporadic in-ring or on-mic career.

If he was under contract to WWE still, wouldn't he be collecting money from WWE also for making the guest Raw and PPV appearances? It seemed like a sweet deal. Why now does he want to break away from WWE and use it when he could have kept a simple contract with WWE and STILL use it AND make more money? I don't get the logic. | TL_Hopper

Yes, that was the problem with Stone Cold and WWE, IIRC. Stone Cold wanted to buy his name and Vince wasn't selling.
