December 9, 2001, Vengeance PPV: Chris Jericho defeated Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Rock to unify the WCW and WWF World Championships.

(Vengeance, not Armageddon. Oopsie. :))

..and two years later, Jericho doesn't have much to show for it. Sure, he may be the most consistent performer on the WWE roster today, but he is not even in the same league as what we had believed he would become four or five years ago ie among the Austins, Rocks, even Angles. That's sad because, noting that very consistency, he deserves so much more than what the inept booking has given him. And yeah, it is completely the bookings' fault. Completely.

I'd say the nail in the coffin was three months after his Armageddon win, when he was treated as an irrelevant background character in favor of Stephanie McMahon and her dog prior to and during Wrestlemania X7.

Poor Jericho. Never knew that it was all down hill from their. The worst pushed World Champion ever. He deserved so much better.

I don't think he is doing bad, all things considered. He is wrestling every week on RAW, at every PPV. He is never humiliated. He usually wins more than he lose. You talk about misused wrestlers, I would say Matt Hardy but Jericho?

Was it not "Vengeance", after "Armageddon" was deemed inappropriate after Sept. 11?

Damn, I remember how happy I was watching that, thinking that it would bring on the "Good Stuff".

Yes it was WWF Vengeance in San Deigo, California on December 9,2001. It was the greatest day in any Jerihoholics life, like mine! When Jericho won the Undisputed Title I was like hole crap like actually gave the belt to the best guy on the roster! Jericho is the best World Champion of all time and he deserves another run as World Champion!

Also Jericho lost the title in front of me and 68,237 Torontoians in Toronto at Wrestlemania X8 not in Houston, Texas in front of the mesly 67,800 fans at Wrestlemania X-Seven.

The issue is not whether he's doing good or bad - It's HOW good or bad he's doing. For someone who was (and still is) insanely over with the crowd, not to mention the first Undisputed Champion, he really doesn't have much to show for it now. A wrestler like Funaki would be happy with the kind of treatment Jericho's gotten, but not someone of Y2J's abilities and potential. Plus, for your point, Matt Hardy wasn't a) much over (aside from screaming Hardy Gurrrrl fanz) or b) WCW and WWF/E champion at this point 2 years ago.

PS: There are so many spelling, grammar, and factual errors in this thread that it drives my obsessive compulsive ass crazy.

It's almost amazing, 20 months after losing the title and IIRC Jericho has not had a one on one PPV title match since then. It's an odd mix of amazing and depression and pathetic especially thinking of who has had multiple title shots in the past 20 months.

He did a good job as champion, a darn good job for what they allowed him to do. The only major disaster in his reign was the WMX8 match that just awful. But how much does that have to do with the obvious HHH was going to win and the brutal World Champ Jericho as Stephanie's lackey. The match was pretty bad as well, but it looked more like HHH was unprepared going in... 3 main players going into the WMX8 match and the one person who deserved the least amount of blame was made as the reason the match failed. Of course we can't blame the babyface going into a Wrestlemania World title main event, who has NEVER proved he can get over as a major babyface (therefore turning heel right away after losing the title for a few months). Gawd forbid we put blame on him. HHH gets the World title or World title matches for 17 out of the last 20 months.

I was just looking at some numbers around that time period to see if Jericho title reign did in the ratings. Sure there's a lot of other aspects to go around. But I'm just looking at Raw's ratings with Jericho as champion and him without

Pre-Jericho Title reign: I took the average of 2 months Early Oct-Early Dec) before Jericho won the title and it averaged out to 4.2... Started out with the Mid-4's dipped down to Low-4s. Rose up to Mid-4s in early Dec.

Jericho Title Reign: Taking the average of the 3 month title reign(not including Christmas eve/Newyears eve show)and it averaged 4.5...His first day as champ the rating hit 4.8 (0.3 higher then the previous week and o.6 higher then the last 2 months). The show for the next three months settled in the Mid-4 range.

On May 13, 2002. Two months after Jericho lost his title ratings dropped under 4 and never really recovered...5 months later in Sep, 2002 it averaged Mid-3s.

It's sad how Jericho now is deemed unworthy of the World title even though him as champion the ratings sustained pretty well. Yet the man who had the ratings free fall under his reign is in another World title match this Sunday, without even having to be in the arena for the last two weeks... I guess it's all about who you know or more like in this case who you Do.

Saying all that Jericho is too damn talent to be brushed aside. He's still a major part of the Raw brand, continually getting important 10PM time spots and on multiple times a show... Unfortunately his most usage over the last year is to get others over (usually slugs who can't lace his boots). I'd love to see Jericho with another title reign, unfortunately I don't even think WWE has it in there radar. Unless it's a #1 contendership to put over some slug or for him to be the workhorse in some multi-player Title fight, just to get pinned near the end
