This year my bro-in-law has offered to handle the cooking duties for the family - turducken has been mentioned, but I don't know if he's going to go with it or not at this point. There was a super super sale on turkey breasts a while back - ours is STILL in the freezer but I'll do SOMETHING with it sooner or later - probably when we're snowed in and I have nothing better to do but cook and bitch about the weather on the Internet. But I digress. I'm probably getting away with making the traditional green beans with crunchy onion topping thing that practically everybody has on Thanksgiving - Kim's making...shoot, I forgot. A special salad I think...something Martha would make? ANYWAY Thanksgiving is only TEN DAYS AWAY so if you haven't thought about it yet, now's the time - then - POST
Since my mother passed away in September 2004, last year and also this year my father prefers to take my family and my brother to Old Country Buffet for Thanksgiving.

Mrs. Freeze & I are travelling to Connecticut to spend the Thanksgiving weekend with her family. I'm pretty sure we'll be eating all the T'Giving type stuff.
This will be my 2nd visit to CT, she was born & raised there.
Typically, since our parents are sick/unable to participate in the whole big dinner deal, we have been doing the chinese food thing the last few years.
No plans yet, though.
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.
For the first time since we moved to Michigan, we'll be at someone else's house this Thanksgiving. We'll be heading to Indiana to my father's house and enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings that I don't have to cook, unless I get suckered into making my chorizo cornbread stuffing. Of course, that also means no post-Thanksgiving leftovers but I can probably live without those for one year.

Is turducken tasty? It sounds large and unwieldy to cook.
Usually it is a toss up between my relatives in south-west Minnesota, husband's relatives in Oshkosh Wisconsin, or him being on call for his job and us being unable to leave town.
This year the Wisconsin Badger football team is playing the Hawaii Warriors(?), so Thanksgiving will fall during our visit to Hawaii/Maui. We are attending this game. UW of Madison is husband's alma mater. They are the only football team that he really follows; he wanted to go see this game. Interestingly enough, they are the only thing that can make him raise his voice in anger. He has been shouting at the tv alot these past two weekends.
We're boogeying down to Birmingham, Alabama, so my new sis-in-law can feed the family. My other sister-in-law will be with her family for the first time since leaving the Peace Corps last month.

It was quite tasty the year we made for Thanksgiving. However, since I did a churrascaria for my birthday last weekend, my need for multiple meats is lessened enough this year for turkey to be palatable.
I don't really care about the dinner, but I'm looking forward to dessert. I always pick up a good banana creme pie, and then there will be homemade chocolate pie, cake, and cookies. I am looking forward to a lazy fattening day.
Dinner with my parents on Wednesday night will likely be a steak or possibly prime rib. Thanksgiving day brings a visit to my grandmothers with the usual - turkey, dressing, etc.
There will also be a to-go plate, as I work later in the afternoon on Thursday, too. Mmm...leftovers...
PEOPLE MAKING DECISIONS FOR ME: Trash Can Turkey will be fun! COOK IT
So - Oven Turkey, Fried Turkey, Stuffed Pork Loin, Beer-Can Chicken, Deer Meat, Alligator Meat, Fresh Fried Fish, Crabs, Clams, Shrimp and all the goodies that go with it. Now Turkey in a Trash Can. That should do it...also, some good homemade booze, but that's mine all mine

EDIT: that wiseguy pieman: Yeah! If I was to select one W that would be eating out of trash can, it would be you, FLEA!
HEY! I'd be perfectly happy with Spaghetti and Meatballs, but I'm not in charge ;-)

Where I'm going this year will be my first dance with the trash can turkey as well, which I had never even heard of until yesterday, so there was a little bit of a double-take on my part but I was sold when it was described what it entailed.
I'm planning on making my tex-mex cassarole as a side dish, since it's the only thing I know how to make in that large of a quantity. Or, to put it a better way, make WELL.

My Thanksgiving was over a month ago. However, we had another turkey this weekend so I guess I might make soup tonight, if that counts for anything (it does not). It's all snowy and blizzardy out - feels like a soup day.
I'm hoping for the return of deep-fried turkey this year. We had it two years ago and it was AWESOME. Sadly, my brother got called out Thanksgiving morning last year, so we had to have the traditional turkey. Which is still a pretty decent consolation prize, actually.
I'll probably have a bit of Turkey bird, and have ONE well-buttered biscuit.

I will be deciding this no earlier than next Monday when I get a chance to look at grocery stores in the right state. Though I may get distracted with going to the beach and getting oysters on the way home... so it might be seafood if something looks good there (crab maybe) or I might go to the grocery store and get a rib roast or something. The unthinkable might even happen and I'll decide to make a turkey breast or something traditional... yikes.
I have a delightful suspicion that it's going to be Indian takeaway.
(We don't really "do" Thanksgiving anymore.)

Since it's just me and my fiance (to far away from family to go back for Thanksgiving), we don't do turkey. We do cornish hens, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, and for dessert, pumkin pie with real heavy whipping cream. Then the day after Thanksgiving, we traditionally roll on over to the nearest Gamestop and take advantage of their buy two, get one free deal. Spend the rest of the weekend playing video games.
With my job forcing me to stay away from home this year, and with most of my friends going home or elsewhere for the holiday, my Thanksgiving dinner will probably consist of some leftover pizza or something.
Truthfully, I might buy a laptop. I've been considering it a while. It's just that all these businesses trying to jump on the money train feels rotten to me. And I'm no economist, but I'm not sure that the government paying out .
