The best present I gave this year is:

A box filled with everything you need to bring home a new kitten.

My girlfriend's been hinting that she'd like to get a new cat, so I got all the supplies together, and promised we'd pick out a new kitten together before the new year.

Let's just say she was pleased.

You wanted the best, you got... Out of Context Quote of the Week.

"Because personally if I was being choked by Ric Flair, my personal reaction would be well, "Glrrrrkkk, can't breathe" but after that... "Man, I'm being choked out by Ric Flair, this is so cool." and then some more "Gllllrrrrk, can't breathe."" (Llakor)

Earrings for my mother. But she wins for what she gave my aunt (her sister): a picture of my grandfather from a wedding. She wasn't invited due to asinine drama.

I gave Trina (the girlfriend) some computer games, and a calculator/pen set. To her family, I gave calendars. And to my brother, I gave a microwave.

I have written in this forum about the diamond earrings I got my wife. I also got her an Ipod Nano. Her other most favorite gift was a large, red polyester blanket for use while on the couch. It's really heavy and warm, and attracts our cats pretty well.

As for a previous thread I started regarding what to put in her stocking, I took the suggestion of a Christmas ornament, which she loved.

I make hardly anything at all, and the only person I usually have to get things for is my father (except during the rare years I'm in a relationship... I like when I'm able to do something nice for some who cares...)

So I got him a coffee-table style book of Photos taken around "Scenic" parts of Pennsylvania... It's pretty nice, and he seems to enjoy it :)

Good job on that. We had HUGE donations at both the places I went to Sunday. Community Action Center had stockings left over, so I went with some of the kids to Wayside Mission in Louisville (it's a much larger shelter) and gave them away. They had food left over as well. So folks (at least at Christmas) were generous.

As one of my non-paid side jobs, I'm am lucky enough to be a Director of a Charitable Foundation so at this time of the year I get to hand out checks to various non-profit agencies. It felt really good this week giving donations to the Volunteer Fire Department & Volunteer Rescue Squads in my town as well as to many others that weren't expecting anything from us at all.

As for my girls, they seem to absolutely love the remote micro pen/race car combos that "Santa" put in their stockings and my son is going nuts for his new chew toys now that he is teething. My wife got the earrings she has silently wished for over the years and the stunned look & accompanying silence were all that I hoped for when she opened the box.....

The best thing(s) would obviously have to be the Dora stuff IJ got for her room: bed, toy storage rack, couch and shelf. She's NEVER been so disoriented as she was when she first walked into her room Christmas morning. (She woke up in there, got up to pee not quite having picked up on the difference, went back in and then just stood there for AT LEAST a minute, I think trying to figure out first why her bed was moved then realizing it was the Dora bed she'd asked for.) She also got Dora's Talking House with some accessories.

I chipped in with some small gold hoop earrings (IJ's first non-stud pair) and a pair of blue topaz earrings with matching necklace for Mrs. JJD. Mrs. JJD was also the proud recipient of the Softest Sweater Ever from the Gap, a tracksuit, and a bunch of other clothes, some Victoria's Secret PJs (NOT lingerie, PJs), some Bath & Body Works sprays, and a Glow by J-Lo gift set.

Most everybody else got gift cards.

Wow, this thread hasn't been bumped in three years.

MOM: The Carry On collection on DVD & the new Barefoot Contessa cookbook

DAD: The complete MASH on DVD & a Willie Parker action figure

SISTER: The Ipig (a fairly high end Ipod dock shaped like a pig for some reason), some Roger Rabbit action figures that she used to have when she was about four and monkey finger puppets. (She's 21.)

GRANDPARENTS: Johnny Cash Live at Montreaux DVD

VARIOUS FRIENDS/CO-WORKERS/HANGERS ON:
*Back To The Future on DVD, a Guitar Hero action figure, a plush zombie and zombie finger puppets. (She's 26.)

*Arrested Development - Season 1 (This is now the sixth time I've bought this - I don't think I know anyone else I can give it to, but if I think of someone, I'll buy it again next year.)

*12" talking Shaun of the Dead figure (I got a better reaction to this than anything else I bought.)

*Goo Goo Dolls & Counting Crows Greatest Hits DVDs (Amazon.com now thinks I have terrible taste in music - she better enjoy them..)

*Lost Planet for Xbox 360

*A Sega Genesis & five games

*Quest 64 (those last two are the advantages to working in a retro gaming store - no one expects stuff like that)

*Watchmen graphic novel

*Flight of the Conchords DVD

*"Downtown Owl", by Chuck Klosterman

*A Girls-Gone-Wild triple feature (A weird 18-year-old kid who hangs out in my store constantly. He's become part of the place's family even though he pretty much drives everyone crazy - and I know he's going to buy us something. I wasn't sure of most of his interests that aren't Guitar Hero but I figured tits was a safe bet (9 in 10 chance, I'm told), especially since he buys every crappy National Lampoon and American Pie direct-to-DVD movie we get in stock.)

I've not given out all of those friend gifts yet - I hope they don't read this board.
