We're all migrated over to Aaron's smokin' fast new server! I think you'll like the way it is smokin' fast.

Now because we ended up upgrading the L, the A, the M *and* the P, there's a good chance you'll see some things not quite functioning correctly. Please report them to us so we can fix them!

....that's all I got for now. I require sleep.

Don't try to break anything on purpose

The moderators kindly tested this new setup for us, and CRZ and I tried to break it ... so it should be good. I know there are going to be things we missed, though.

See you all tomorrow.

Yeah, the new server is noticeably different.

FYI - spell check seems to be broken for me. Here's the message I got:

Hmm, the dictionaries were missing. How did we miss that?

It should be working now.

When you edit a post, it seems to add extra space between paragraphs, particularly around quoted material. In DrDirt/AWA/pieman speak, it adds a bunch of carriage returns.

Example: My last post in this thread: http://the-w.com/thread.php/id=35134#382603

Also, FYI, I'm using IE.

Yeah, it looks like all the line breaks are passing through "\r" carriage returns when they're included as well...

I'll have to figure out what's different, and a good way to fix it.

Hmm, maybe that's easier than I thought.

Yeah, I think that'll do it. Let me know if this breaks something else in the process (like Mac users' ability to properly format posts, f'rinstance...)

WOTD list isn't functioning properly: click on any of the page numbers on the bottom and it keeps you on the first page. Now I can't go through and look at all the pages that don't have my name on them!

(Yes, I know this just rocketed to the top of the To Fix List.)

Well....yes. This should be fixed.

(You can see how far down the alphabet I DIDN'T get when it came to script checking...)

One more thing...If I'm looking at my own profile page and click on 'View Your Ratings' then I got prompted to rate myself. However, then I tried to do so, I got an error message.

I guess newthread was still broken (or I'd ended up doubling up my "fix" from earlier in THIS thread) but hopefully that one's good now, too.

Oh well, I guess this is the kick in the pants I need to finally stop using Netscape 4.77 to browse The W ... Not that I'd actually expect anyone to try to fix this, but old OLD browsers apparently can't recognize the directory (trying to click the link to reply to this thread attempts to link to "http://newreply.php/id=35149", and so forth).

Again, I think I'll be able to suck it up and use FireFox from now on ... It is fast, though

I THINK we could fix even that, but it would involve cleaning up A LOT of code. (Does the new reply work from http://the-w.com/threadx.php/id=35149?)

I... can't think of why that would have changed. That shouldn't be a PHP or Mysql thing. Apache2 maybe?

Probably? I'm sure it's the same mysterious whatever-it-was that caused the \r behaviour change.

You mean clicking the link on the top of the page? If so, then no ... not even the image shows up, it tries loading the picture from http://images/newreply.gif (no mention of the-w.com or anything) and winds up with a broken image.

Again, please don't give yourself extra work on my account ... it just strikes me as kind of weird why that would happen, is all.

No, but at this point anything done by hackers usually has the side effect of bringing MySQL to a screeching halt (as in, all 460,000+ articles end up belonging to the same thread or something very CPU intensive like that).
