Since no one seems to want to start the usual playoff prediction thread, I guess I'll throw it up on here. God knows most of us stank up the joint on our pre-season predictions (how did so many of us decide the Vikings were Super Bowl contenders?) so hopefully we can do better here:
Wild Card: New England over Jacksonville Cincinnati over Pittsburgh Washington over Tampa Bay New York over Carolina
Divisional: Indy over New England Cincinnati over Denver Chicago over New York Washington over Seattle
Conference: Cincinnati over Indy Chicago over Washington
I'm going to have a hearty laugh at all the idiot pundits after Tampa Bay beats Washington again tomorrow. And I'm going to be a homer for my picks. (What do I care? It's not like I'm wasting money on these!)
WILD CARD Tampa Bay over Washington New England over Jacksonville Carolina over New York Pittsburgh over Cincinnati
DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS Tampa Bay over Chicago New England over Denver Seattle over Carolina Indianapolis over Pittsburgh
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP Tampa Bay over Seattle (a matchup I picked at the start of the year, if not a result) New England over Indianapolis (hee hee)
smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Holds; July 5, 2005) It's good to see that the WWE isn't backing away from Batista or Cena. There's still some questions lingering over a few of the draft moves they either made or didn't make (Jericho being a prime example), but the stage is set for a solid run to Summerslam that may send the indicator down. The longer Triple H stays away is also a plus...
Not only did I have the Vikings in the Super Bowl, I had the Texans beating out the Colts for a Wild Card spot. Almost as bad as spf's 'My fantasy team has a better chance of making the Super Bowl than the Bears' prediction.
Redskins over Bucs Patriots over Jaguars Giants over Panthers Steelers over Bengals
Redskins over Seahawks Patriots over Broncos Colts over Steelers Bears over Giants (picking with my head instead of heart)
Bears over Redskins Patriots over Colts (Vinatieri doinks one from 53 off the upright and through at the gun to win 31-30)
Patriots over Bears

Hey! It turned out about even, as we both made the playoffs. I just got unlucky that my team hit a bad patch! But then considering the W league had a finalist who had Priest Holmes in his lineup until the very end, I'd say things went a bit crazy there ;)
Now that I got to revisit the predictions thread...
I didn't do too badly on the AFC side, just missed on the Bungles (predicted the Ravens) and Broncos (picked the Chargers). Can't believe I underestimated Cincy that badly and overestimated Baltimore that much. My NFC predictions however were a joke - I only predicted Carolina correctly.
Carolina 20 Giants 17 - Feely misses at the end Redskins 34 Tampa 24 - regular season revenge Pats 31 Jags 13 - Pats tanked the final week to get this matchup Steelers 31 Bengals 27 - Steelers are looking strong
Seahawks 38 Redskins 24 - too much MVP Panthers 23 Bears 17 - too much Steve Smith Indy 37 Steelers 34 - Indy wins the track meet Broncos 26 Pats 24 - Elam from 55 at the gun
Seahawks 34 Panthers 14 - too much everything as Cats tire Broncos 31 Indy 30 - Rod Smith has a game for ages
Broncos 27 Seahawks 24 - Steve Atwater coldcocks Steve Largent on a Jim Zorn pass into the corner of the endzone and Terrell Davis runs over Brian Bosworth for his 3rd TD of the game late in the 4th
Oh Oh Oh Oh Popozao Popozao……which when translated from federline to english means "watch me spend all Brit’s cash before she dumps me and I become a Reality TV Star on VH1”……
Carolina over New York - I truly believe Carolina has the better team here, but it really depends on which Panthers team shows up. Do we get the real Panthers who we saw crush the banged up Falcons last Sunday? Or do we get the fake Panthers who forget to run the ball, and forget to shutdown the other team's playmakers on defense? Double-team Plaxico and load eight in the box and I think the Giants are done.
Washington over Tampa Bay - Just how good is Chris Simms? Double Galloway and load eight in the box and make Simms beat you. I don't think he can.
Jacksonville over New England - This year has finally made me a believer in Tom Brady. The Pats have looked terrible, but he's managed to gut out enough wins to get to the playoffs. I am such a believer in Brady that I've been convinced (along with the rest of the world) that there's no way they drop this game in Foxboro. But looking at it, it occurs to me that the Patriots are still a really banged up team that are pretty lucky to be here. I think the Jaguars come out and surprise everyone with an aggressive attitude that causes the Patriots to fall apart in the 4th under the pressure.
Pittsburgh over Cincinnati - I almost called another 'upset' here and picked the Bengals. But run-first teams with strong defenses win in the playoffs. Better luck next year, kitties.
Carolina over Chicago - With Grossman under center Chicago becomes that much more dangerous, but the Cats should be ready for this revenge game, even in the cold.
Washington over Seattle - Eight in the box and double Jurevicious. Alexander's been the workhorse for this team, but they've looked rather poor when matching up against winning teams. Seahawks bomb out of the playoffs again.
Denver over Jacksonville - The Donkeys get their first playoff win since '98 by running the ball and playing good defense.
Indianapolis over Pittsburgh - The difference maker in this game is how well Edge runs. The Steelers can make Manning pay for going to the air, but it will leave holes for Edge to run through. Steelers keep it close, but can't get it done on the offensive side of the ball for the win.
Carolina over Washington - Eight in the box, double Moss. Brunell eats turf too much to get much done.
Denver over Indianapolis - Revenge Revenge Revenge. Denver runs the ball and the Colts can't stop them. Manning doesn't have enough possesions to break the Broncos defense.
Washington over Tampa Bay (though seriously, anything could happen in this game)
New York over Carolina (the Panthers haven't won a really big game all season)
New England over Jacksonville (no way the Pats lose at home, in the freezing cold and possible snow, in the first round)
Pittsburgh over Cincinnati (you know, people seem so sure that the Steelers will win that I almost picked the upset, but I'm not that brave a man)
SECOND ROUND *Seahawks over Redskins, as Alexander runs for about 190 yards. *Bears over Giants, pick the under, whatever it is *Colts over Steelers in a good one *Patriots over Broncos, as Jake Plummer finally implodes
CONFERENCE TITLE GAMES * Colts over Patriots in the game of the year * Bears over Seahawks in a pretty unlikely NFC title game
SUPER BOWL Colts win, Colts win. This is the most wide-open playoffs I've seen in a long time, so just about anyone has a shot.
"Oh, gosh, you know, I'm not much on speeches, but it's so gratifying to leave you wallowing in the mess you've made. You're screwed, thank you, bye."
This board is bringing just about as much hate to the Bucs as the media. We won our division, swept Atlanta and dominated Carolina in their own stadium. Seven out of the 12 people who have made picks so far picked the skins.
I can't say I'm not happy that the media is all over Joe Gibbs jock. Our #1 league defense is getting no respect and no pub. The last time that happend was when Michael Vick came to town for the first time. Needless to say we knocked him out of the game and won handily.
The skins have a beat up secondary with Rogers coming back after a three game layoff and Springs most likely out for the game. Galloway will burn them and Hilliard, Smith and Shepard will make some big plays.
Caddilac is healthy now as opposed to the last game between the two teams snd he will have over a hundred yards rushing. Pittman is on kickoff returns and he will bust a long run but probably get tackled from behind. Mark Jones has been breaking long punt returns the past month and don't expect Saturday to be any different.
As for the defense. Whose your favorite player Mr. Derrick Brooks was not even close to 100% last time, and he will show that those points the skins put up were a fluke. Barber will be covering Cooley and Moss like a blanket and will shut them down.
The ancient one Mark Brunell better watch out for Rice, MacFarland and Dewayne Big Play White. Barber will add to his sack numbers with some blitzes.
By the way, I was the one who won the-W spread league. But like Texas Kelly you can call me a homer.
Wild Card Picks
TAMPA BAY carolina cincinnati new england
TAMPA BAY over Chicago Seattle over Carolina Indy over New England Cincinnati over Denver
Wanna know why my Redskins will beat the Bucs? It's simple. It will be revenge for the "Alstott did NOT get the ball across the plane of the goal line" debacle from some weeks back. Oh, how I'm hoping for this win for the Skins. After that, it's all gravy for me.
I'm amazed so many people have the Bears in the Super Bowl with their anemic offense.
New England over Jacksonville. Pittsburgh over Cincinnati. Washington over Tampa Bay. Carolina over NY Giants.
Indianapolis over Pittsburgh. New England over Denver. Seattle over Washington. Carolina over Chicago.
Indy over New England (finally). Seattle over Carolina.
Jacksonville over New England - if there's any time for the Pats to lose during their great run, this is the year in question. They were 10-6 in a division which started off very weak and I can't see them getting past most of the teams in the AFC (The Colts and the Broncos especially). I thinkt the Jags will win this one shocking everybody.
Cincinnati over Pittsburgh - It's all about who scores first. If the Bengals fall behind, they'll just try to score it back, but they'll then also have to deal with The Bus and company running wild. If the Steelers fall behind, they may abort the running game which has potential to destroy the Bengals. I think the Bengals have a shot. I also think this is the game which Carson Palmer will assert himself and firmly put is foot down as one of the best QB's in the NFL.
Washington over Tampa Bay - I think most people are looking at the nice winning streak the Redskins put up. I'm one of those people too.
NY Giants over Carolina - Tiki Barber shows why he is the REAL MVP of the National Football League.
Indy over the Jags - Too much talent on the part of the Colts.
Bengals over the Broncos - See above reasoning for the Bengals/Steelers game. Including the Palmer reference.
New York over Chicago - Barber puts in a good game, butEli manning realizes some of his potential and proceeds to shred a usually solid Bears defense.
Seattle over Washington - The Seahawks are simply a very good team, and Redskins run out of juice.
Conference: Indy over the Bengals - The Bengals make a great run, but lose in a close game which will feature 17,000 different ways how to amaze people with offense. I think this is the Colt's year.
NY Giants over Seattle - Another dissapointing finish for Seattle, as the Giant's will win with the run.
Colts over Giants in the Super Bowl. - The media have a field day over the Manning brothers being in the super bowl together. We get sick of hearing about it. And the Colts complete their season with a Superbowl win.
(edited by El Nastio on 7.1.06 1019) To celebrate the passing of the Troll Amnesty (and for otherwise no reason at all), I present to you the very best of Trolling here on The W. This Troll Moment of the Week is brought to you by;
Goldbergista, who brought us such pieces as wisdom as: "The people on the forums need to see the truth; you need to see that Benoit is garbage… and that Nash, Batista, Hogan, Warrior and Goldberg are the true wrestlers!!"
So much for splitting duties. Looks like Warner's a full-time starter now. ESPN - QB Leinart out for season so Cardinals sign Rattay Tough break for the Cards, but this is the sort of reason Warner was kept around in the first place.
