I marked out harder tonight than I did at the start of the “ECW Invasion” thanks to Dreamer’s kickass promo and kendo-stick attack on Lesnar. Then RVD did a VAN TERMINATOR on Heyman. Insert Joey Styles here…”OH MY GOD!” It was ECW Cheap Pop night in Philly, and I loved it.
But leave it to the NWO to suck the life out of the show otherwise. Is Nash REALLY injured AGAIN? Can we PLEASE get rid of this whole gimmick, all four guys under the banner, and move on to something new? PLEASE?!?
Aside from that, I have to wonder how McMahon does those faces without cracking himself up.
ECW is dead. That segment hardly seemed to have any meaning to any of the fans. The WWF can't exploit the name anymore, because it has no meaning. Nobody cares.
What was REALLY funny was right in the middle of Shawn Michaels' promo, you could hear some fan scream "Get to the point!"

I care about ECW. I also thought the entire segment was the biggest pop of the nigth. If anything, it got Tommy Dreamer out of the Tom Green crap and back to the Innovator of Extreme. So, Bucs Fan, I think you are way off.
As for the NWO, its time to either get new members ie Brock or have HHH kill it at Vengance. The NWO storyline was actually getting good too bad, Nash went down. I hope its just a sprain, but I doubt it.
A Fan- ECW, got more chants than Booker T, can you dig it sucka?
Keep Dreamer OFF my damn tv. I don't want to see anyone whoboth sucks AND whose ass I could kick. 1 out of 2 is tolerable, but if you are both, fuggetaboutit.
I was hoping during HBK's promo about all the stuff they'd do while on the road for 20 days a month, someone would have yelled out "giving each other reach arounds."

Umm...did you hear the people there? The whole crowd was hot as hell for that segment. They even chanted along with Tommy when he referred to himself as the "Innovator of Violence". It was a one-off thing for the Philly folks, it kept heat on the Lesnar/RVD feud, and it let us see the Van Terminator~! Sounds like a winner to me for best segment on the show.
Anyone remember the joy of seeing him bash the Undertaker's motorcycle with his sledgemhammer and doing no damage and being all like, "Mjolnir will not break thine cycle? I say thee NAY!" and dumping it off the stage. - Enojado Viento says the funniest thing I've ever read on Wienerville.
That what you get when there is no Molly and too much Michaels and Nash: a very sucky show.
Booker T called out the nWo got Eddy instead. Good match. Loved Eddy's "I didn't know you can do that move, Booker!!" reaction when Booker T won.
Goldust's Ben Franklin was kind of flat, and Bubba let him know that.
Benoit got the win from Bubba he should have got last week. Benoit, look at the crowd from time to time and do a 'skiint' or a face or something. Don't leave it to the end.
Trish and Jackie enjoyed watching Molly's pantied butt, as we all do, then sniped at each other again. (Hey, no 'fat ass' remarks from Lawler--could the angle be over????) Good points by Jackie. Nowinski was very funny, though it would have been hilarious if he burst out laughing when Trish said her partner was Bradshaw. Too bad the follow up tag match was terrible. I was hoping Molly would run in, de-pants and spanked both of them, shouting "You f-ed up!!!!!!"
Eddy was very prescient, as GoldDust before him, asking Benoit "Could it [the show] get any worse?" before he turned and saw the nWo.
Michaels got hecklers--yay Phily!! Speech was boring threatening HHH. Hey, I'm no fan of Trips, but even if he had one tendon dangling on his leg, he still will wipe the floor with the nWo's hairs. Make a threat to him, when his girlfriend is head writer? Stephanie promptly wrote Nash's blow up in the script.
Michaels reminds me of the recent college graduate who shows up at his old frat house each weekend and repeatedly tells the pledges how much tougher he had it when he was in their shoes. They think he's cool for about two weeks, then they start to avoid him.
I think ECW has a little mileage in it, if only in Philadelphia. Let's just say that Tommy Dreamer got a bigger reaction tonight then he probably has since his first night in WWE. At least you couldn't hear pins drop like the Raven/Dreamer match a couple of weeks ago. RVD's Van Terminator was the night's highlight.
For the first time in a while, the women were the clear lowlight. Trish/Jackie was just awful. Jackie looked lost out there. I can't really understand why Jackie isn't sent to OVW for a little work.
Do you think it might be time for Nash to retire? I mean, he got injured the first time after, what, 2 matches? And then, in a match clearly set up to protect Nash, he gets injured again in all of 6 seconds of action. Kev, I think your body is trying to tell you something.
The rest was OK. Hardy winning the European Title is a nice little reward I guess. The Goldust/Booker T segments were OK, but not as good as previous weeks. Overall, OK.
All I heard were scattered mindless "ecw" chants. I for about half a second heard a dreamer chant. That was it. Nobody cared abouy Paul's claim to have made RVD, Dreamer, etc. Dreamer got a pop because he said he "did it for the fans." Also, he got cheered not just because of what he said but because it was just a solid promo period.

Bucs Fan, with all due respect, you had the TV set with low volume. The ECW chant was more sustained than any cheer or chant throughout the night, even more so than Booker T. And why not? Brock and Paul E were talked down and cut down hardcore style. Damn, RVD got like, what, a fifteen foot standing leap?
Bubba also made a good speech about what it meant to win the match. Too bad RVD was obsessed with chasing Michaels like a girl fan.
Some fans don't like Regal's style, but it is by far the hardest to beat. It is not dissimilar to that of Bret Hart or Ric Flair, though Bret was quicker. If Regal stuck to solid mat work instead of using extrachicanery, he should win every match. Anyway, great win by Glo in the Dark Jeff. And for once, he hit the Swanton Bomb perfectly!! Even the ref was surprised, taking a few seconds before counting to three. All right, Jeff is turning it up.
Kevin Nash I guess will join Scott Hall in some out-of-the-way drinking hole. How did he enter in the match without doing any Molly stretches I'll never know. You can't cover up that. It was like Mick Foley missing the prone Rock and the table in his last match at Wrestlemania.
I agree about Jeff Hardy and the Swanton. He landed right on Regal, and you could seriously believe that landing like that on someone could be enough for a 3 count, as opposed to when he jumps almost entirely over the person and just glazes them with his head and neck.
Bucs, methinks you might want to get a tv that has some actual speakers and throw out the little 9" black and white job
Seriously, the only way the response to that segment is tepid is if you want to believe it was tepid to make a point. The ECW chant was the loudest thing I hear all night on that show. I agree with you that ECW is not the kind of thing you can base an angle around for the long haul, but in Philly it gets a huge pop, one which I heard with my own ears tonight.

I agree, the crowd WAS dead most of the night.
If that's a"huge" pop, then William Regal got booed out of the building tonight.

The mixed tag-team match was the anomaly of the show. Everything else RULED. More shows like this, in my opinion, will get WWE back to where it needs to be.
And any show in which Booker T, Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero wrestle twice is automatically at least a three-star show in my book.
OK, my thoughts from the top of the show:
--Man, Booker T is mad over and I think that's wonderful! His match with Guerrero was very, very good, too. I was very excited to see Benoit and Guerrero's angle against the Dudleys become intertwined with Booker T and Goldust's angle against the nWo.
--He's coming. And if he can regain the form he had in 1996-97, Rey Mysterio Jr. will become the highlight of every show he appears on.
--I'd say the Ben Franklin impersonation was a little off as well-- but is there anyone living who's actually heard Ben Franklin speak? Certainly not live-- and there were no audio casettes or video coverage of him, either.
--Chris Benoit is back and he's really mad. Chris Benoit is back and he's really an-gry! Good to see people still tapping out to the Crippler Crossface. And, of course, the aftermath of the match further contributed to the big angle of the night.
--Flair's segment with Hardy and Richards was great. A quick three minute-or-so segment sets up two matches. Nice to see the Hardy respect angle continuing, as well.
--Mixed tag-team match: Jackie fucked up. Big-time. Some people say she's a looker (I don't), but I think she should be consigned to HWA after this. There's no way Jake could possibly been as bad as Jackie-- and I didn't even watch TE2.
--I kind of liked the nWo segment. I certainly prefer Nash on the mic to Nash in the ring. Interesting to see the Kliq mentioned on RAW. I'm not sure someone's actually done that before-- at least, not one of its members-- and gone into such detail about it.
--I marked out for Tommy Dreamer too-- and I was never an ECW Mutant. If Dreamer goes back to his Innovator of Violence roots permanently, it certainly can't be any worse than the disgusting gimmick he's had to do recently.
--Jeff Hardy is the new European Champion. OK, so his reward for jobbing to 'Taker was a European Title reign? Gaa. Although in doing so, Jeff became the third WWE Superstar to win five different titles, I believe. Intercontinental, European, Hardcore, Light Heavyweight and Tag Team. The five-title grand slam is matched only by Chris Jericho and Christian.
--Ten-man tag-team match was actually very good to me-- although it's clear that Nash should probably never set foot in the ring again. I don't know how the hell he got medically cleared to wrestle, seeing as how he got injured about six seconds into his involvement. But he should get out now and stay out. I wouldn't mind keeping him as a non-wrestler, though-- he cuts very good promos, and he occasionally cracks me up. But as a wrestler, I think he's probably done.
Overall, I give this show a solid A. It entertained me, which is something that many RAWs recently haven't done.

Hmm...let's go back in time to last week on THIS VERY MESSAGE BOARD! What was it I said
(Cue Wayne's World flashback sequence...)
I'm more worried about Jeff Hardy. Where do they go from here? He's been squashed more times than I can count and now that he has this "rub" from UT, what'll he do with it? There's really no good way to follow up on this. The only thing I can picture them doing is hotshotting the Euro title onto him since Regal doesn't seem to be doing much with the belt, anyway.
(End Wayne's World flashback sequence)
Am I psychic or are they just getting predictable? No complaints about the match, though. It was a good match.
But what's up with Regal CRYING?! That's not the evil bastard Englishman I know and love! Wassup wit dat?!
And that's the bottom line, because it's false! It's DAMN false!
Shane was also notably awful. I think the WWE viewpoint is that fans would love listening to Terri for an hour... Al was great when he was doing it for Velocity, but a guy in his position (and pretty much any wrestler considered here)
