I have to agree. I have been tooling around here a little the last 24 hours or so and it is very smooth.

I think a round of applause for Aaron and Chris and anyone else who has worked on this!

The base code is from a guy named ACMLM.

Chris has been modding the php for the layout stuff to make it look like he wants it to (time in the crazy slash format, dates backwards, etc).

On the back-end, Adam (infinitum) has been helping with a ton of stuff and deserves a lot of credit. I've actually done very little in terms of this board other than provide the hardware and install Debain up to the point where it had SSH on it and other people could take over, and a little bit of database tweaking (the original code didn't have indexes on the threads).

It's definitely been a group effort. I'm glad to see we haven't blown it up yet. I've been running a variation of this board on my home Debian system since June, and we've become pretty familiar with it. In time, it's as easy or easier than EZ board for the user, I think at least.

I dare you to time page rendering time on EZ board.

How did you get the base code for the board? I'd be interested in getting a copy, if only for testing purposes on my home network. I went over to the link provided in the bottom graphic, but couldn't find anything for download. Shoot, I'd even be willing to part with cash for a system this smooth.

Honestly?

I got kind of lucky, and found an error in the code when I went and visited his forums. I think he felt generous and let me have the 1.65 code (he was on 1.7 at the time).

From the FAQ at his forum, he isn't distributing the pre 2.0 code. He seems to imply that it's ok if someone gives you the code, but I don't really feel comfortable doing it.

Never fear, Adam is writing a board system that will be even more efficient that this one. We should have it within a few months.

This board looks slick, and works well for the users. The back-end is a bit patchy, and some of the HTML is very non-standard (none of the colors are in "", for example).

iCab and Konqueror didn't like it much until Chris and I messed around with it.

There are still a few more... issues... that I know about, that I'm hoping aren't discovered. I can fix them, I just am lazy.

So, yes, ACMLM should offer his code for pay download. I would pay him for the newer 1.76 code probably. The problem is that once you start diverging from the source tree (like we have - extensively) then you are going to have issues with installing new versions.

It's a really, really nice system. I'm growing tired of EZBoard, but I've learned to love the format. It's just so godforsaken slow that I have a tough time dealing with it at times.

Heh, I understand. I'd probably have a heck of a time getting it running - I'm just starting to dabble in PHP and something this complicated probably wouldn't be the best place for me to start learning the ins and outs of the code.

I'd really like to be in the circle as you develop that software -- will it be PHP like this one? Or will you use something else that's MySQL related?

OMG CRZ don't let your brother play with Botter or he'll never be the same again. Next time you see him he'll be wearing Griff's clothes and saying, "Hey dudes I'm Griff, I'm just gonna sit here and listen to what you're saying and not respond. What. I mean I'm watching Verticial Limit. Come see my band."

Hey Botter, you suck.

It will be PHP running a MySQL backend. He is planning on it being GPL licensed so at the time we release it anyone could use it.

I'm not sure who is going to beta the code beyond a core group of friends right now. Between us all, we had 6 different message boards running at one time or another.

I think that PFFFT.net will be the first site to run the new code, so if you see it drop off of EZ board then it's a good sign.

I'm gonna stop making promises for Adam now and not talk about this until we can deliver it.

Guru, maybe you can help me with this EZBoard question. I need to figure out how to make the main table size smaller - much like CRZ's board. I'm tired of having a board that fills the entire screen. I just couldn't find anywhere in the control panels that let you determine the width of the table. Is it something you have to insert into the header?

Yeah, it's in the header. Basically, start a table and put a width on the table.

Just make sure that you close the table in the footer.

That's so funny; I have (or at least had - it's been a while) the exact same tie, from the looks of that pic. And I always called it the "Q*Bert tie".
