I re-read The Infinity Gauntlet, which is still awesome and my favorite Marvel story of all. Then I wrote up a little piece about Thanos.
I love Thanos thiiiiisss much. (backofthehead.com)

The Thanos Imperative pretty much boiled down to "When you need an apocalyptic genocide NOW, just call Thanos." Thanos' role in that story supports your great piece that much more.
There's no possible way Avengers 2 will do him justice. The limited film structure makes it nearly impossible.

Gauntlet was the first mega series I collected thus it will always hold a special place in my heart. Even with that biased, I still think its the best Marvel story told in the last 20 years.
Thanos is the only villain by himself that I think can take on the Avengers. I just hope they add his love interest in Avengers 2. I may pick up the Thanos Imperative if its half as good Gauntlet, I am in.

I'd also suggest Starlin's Thanos solo series and Marvel: The End.

Shit.
How so? I admit the contents of the thread and my Back of the Head piece spoil The Avengers credits. But how does this thread title do so? It's in Print, it has the Marvel tag, and there's no mention of The Avengers movie in the thread title.

Well, let's be fair ... Is there any "need" to talk about Thanos outside of the fact that the Avengers movie is currently in theaters? There's no real "need" to bring up the character unless he somehow factors into what is (more than likely) the biggest pop culture event of the year.
Of course, I don't currently follow Marvel continuity in the comics too closely, so perhaps I prematurely made the leap from Thanos the comic book character to Thanos the potential movie antagonist ... but you can see how that could happen, right?
