Too true, Guru.

By the way...

Holiday: [Middle English holidai, holy day, from Old English hlig dg : hlig, holy; see holy + dg, day; see day.]

Holy. Day.

"Holy" is pretty religious, ain't it?

I fail to see what all the pissing and moaning amounts to about this whole "holiday" problem.

Am I the only one who doesn't think that Christmas gets bigger and bigger every year? I think it actually reached its zenith in the 90s and has stagnated since then.

This whole thing has been particularly fun for us sales clerks who now are afraid of saying anything to anybody without offending somebody and/or getting dragged into a long, loud debate with some uninformed jagoff who's sick of Christmas shopping and just wants someone to take his frustrations out on. It's led to me just ignoring the whole thing and wishing them a good night or a good weekend. I've been seeing the same thing happen throughout "my" mall. (Doing my Christmas shopping there, I haven't been wished a "Merry Christmas" OR a "Happy Holiday"). I kinda doubt that's the end-result Bill O'Reilly wanted, but that sure seems to be what's happening.

He got exactly what he wanted. Do you really think he cares after he has milked it to death.

The teller at my bank today wished me "A Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday". Now THAT'S how you cover all your bases.

No, this is. (All credit to my friend Adrian who came up with this parody today.)

Sung to the tune of Mary Poppins' Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious:

Chrismahanaramakwanzafestiholisolstice

Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Chrismahanaramakwanzafestiholisolstice!
Here comes the ACLU
Dispensing PC justice
Dont offend an ethnic group
Or youll get legal notice
Chrismahanaramakwanzafestiholisolstice!

Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
I used to always say Christmas
When I was just a lad
It was an okay thing to say
But now Im told its bad
So then one day I learned a word
That solved my seasons woes
The most inclusive holiday
And this is how it goes:

Oh, Chrismahanaramakwanzafestiholisolstice!
Here comes the ACLU
Dispensing PC justice
Dont offend an ethnic group
Or youll get legal notice
Chrismahanaramakwanzafestiholisolstice!

Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
So when you want to say hello
There's no need to be rude
Please dont offend the pagans
Or the Atheists or Jews
Lets be all inclusive
So their feelings are not hurt
It doesnt matter what its called
As long as Im off work!

It's Chrismahanaramakwanzafestiholisolstice!
Chrismahanaramakwanzafestiholisolstice
Chrismahanaramakwanzafestiholisolstice
Chrismahanaramakwanzafestiholisolstice!

Now see, I don't see what the big deal is about all this Happy Holidays v. Merry Christmas nonsense because I ALWAYS thought that expression (what the teller wished you) was the way it was done. "Merry Christmas" for the people that celebrate Christmas and "Happy Holidays" for all the other holidays (Hannukah, Kwanza, New Year's, etc.). I don't understand why this year it all of a sudden had to be just one or the other.

Then again, I prefer Jim Carrey's expression from his appearance on Conan last night: Have a Christ-y, Christ-y Christmas!

I just got this e-mailed to me this morning, and I can't agree with it more. There's some profanity in it, but big deal. Give it a listen if you like:

Because there are certain people that feel the need to create conflict even when it doesn't exist. Personally, I've found that the only people I know that are offended in this whole ordeal are the ones put off by "Happy Holidays." It's interesting to hear certain people decrying it as PC at its worst, when the irony is that they're the ones being overly-sensitive and getting all bent out of shape over something that's really quite silly.

Pennsylvania town celebrates 'Festivus'

Well, at least THESE people won't have to worry about the Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas nonsense. Apparently, Festivus is actually decades old. It was created by the father of one of the writers of that episode of Seinfeld. Who knew? (Not me, obviously.)

I know I am a few days late but oh well!

I find it pretty ironic. It isn't the left wing, ACLU, or whomever Bill O'Reily is blaming for the watering down of Christmas. Granted, there are some nuts out there, especially on the west coast who get way too offended by the phrase, the same idiots who celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day on October 12th, because Christopher Columbus was a white tyrant. But all and all, I don't find them groups too powerful.

It's the big cooperations looking to make profits during the season. The same corporations who I'd venture to guess, put their money on Bush, and thus made Bill O'Reily a very happy man last November. After all, it would ruin the multicultural facade these corporations put on, if they were simply say Christmas. That's a beautiful thing, we may be white, yellow, red and brown; but we all spend green.

In reality, it a very wise move on the corporations part, in not deterring the 15 people in the United States they might offend. Instead of making $115,535,504,529 profit by just mentioning Christmas in these promotions, they make $115,634,234,152. Wouldn't want the Walton family to go to penny pinching now would we?

Apparently the war on Christmas has failed.

Reports are now coming in that Christmas in fact happened as scheduled on December 25th of this year. Despite the efforts of evil commie Jesus-haters the world over, Christmas actually happened! This is a grand victory, to be sure! Maybe even a miracle!

Take that, non-Christians!
