YOu know as well as I do, that there wont be any ground troops sent in until they decimate all means of Iraqi defenses. The Urband warfare teaching is more for going through, collecting "enemies" who are going to be tried for terrorist activity and other sundry charges.

The reason I get on Powell, is because if it wasnt for him, we could have went into Iraq, and ended this crap to begin with. But, he talks GHWB into stopping. THat whole highway of death "made us look bad" and he didnt want more people killed. So, in return, years later, we get to go in and risk thousands of (our) lives anyhow. Thanks Colin! Good Job! ANother reason anybody with a Star on thier shoulder in todays military shuoldnt be allowed to make decisions!

Because they know that in order to win a war, you're going to have to take casualties?

-Jag

With poison running through your veins, and death marching solemnly towards you, heroic acts become more of a necessity as you see your time dwindling.

Vanquishing your enemies, making amends to those you have wronged, and leaving words of love and kindness for those around you become second nature as your own mortality looms

However, true strength lies not in these last desperate acts, but in the actions of one who has to get out of bed the next day and face the consequences of doing that which you believe is right.

First of all, Im assuming that by decimating all Iraqi defenses you mean by bombing and cruise missile strikes. I agree that will be the first course of action by our forces. BUT, all the bombing in the world cant eliminate all the Iraqi defenses and their ability to fight us back.Probably one of the biggest misconceptions about modern war is that you can beat anybody if you bomb them long enough, and that just isnt true. To truly win a war like well be fighting in Iraq its going to troops and tanks on the ground fighting in close combat. And since we need to drive into Baghdad to remove Saddam well be fighting in a city with the population of Los Angeles among civilians who may fight us back. And even if they dont fight us directly we cant just Bomb Baghdad because we cant kill a few thousand civilians to get to Saddam. The tough part is that the Republican Guard will no doubt use that fact to their advantage. So our troops need serious urban combat training because they will be a serious strategic disadvantage fighting on the streets.

And about Powell, I dont blame him because we didnt go into Iraq. I think the entire cabinet decided against it because up to that point the War had been relatively clean. We had driven the Iraqis from Kuwait and we were kicking ass in the desert. And we hadnt lost a lot of lives, But if we had tried to push to Baghdad things wouldnt gotten ugly. We couldve had a few thousand casualties and the war coudve dragged on. And Bush 41 and his cabinet didnt want to have the blood of 5000 dead soldiers on their hands. The American people werent prepared for that. SO they pulled back and hoped the Iraqi people would get rid of Saddam on their own. Of course that didnt happen so here we sit. Was it a good decision? In retrospect no it wasnt, but at the time it made sense. But thats just my opinion.

The GOP really needs to be careful about how much favor they try to curry with anti-homosexual legislation. This is an issue that is driving me from the party. I'm glad at least some of the party understands this.
