Biggest star: Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan. Most inspired: Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach.
Mostly, my ambivalence continues.

I'd much rather watch people who are cast right, rather than cast because they're a name. I'd rather watch Jackie Earle Haley (who I've never seen before) as Rorschach than, say, Bruce Willis, who would have me during the whole movie going that's Bruce Willis.

Still, as long as the cast involved does a good job, you're not going to hear me complain. They gave March 2009 as the release date, which seems pretty feasable, but I wouldn't be surprised if they bump it closer to the summer season. | OlFuzzyBastard

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

!!!! This is much bigger news to me than a Watchmen movie. Now somebody needs to adapt Alan Moore's version of Swamp Thing to film or TV and pretty much every one of my favorite non-mainstream comics will be accounted for.

I am more excited about this than anything on television in a long time. Preacher and HBO go together like PB & J.
The Watchmen cast seems fine, but my doubts are still about Zach Snyder. Sure, 300 LOOKED great, but how many beefcake shots of men's abs and pecs can you cram into 2 hours before it just becomes homo erotic? Watchmen is a totally different kind of story, and I am not sure it lends itself to Snyder's skills.

Gerard Butler was the Phantom and Patrick Wilson palyed Raul in PHANTOM.

All of them? You know what I liked about 300? 300 is the closest I've seen a motion picture come to what watching WWE is like. Over the top action? Bloody ultraviolence? Check and check. Ripped and jacked nearly naked men? Check. Dialogue yelled at the top of their lungs? Check. Straightforward storytelling with clear cut good and evil? Check. All problems and issues resolved by fighting? Check. Freaks of all sizes and shapes? Check. Strong, sexy women being demeaned with violent comeuppance to the villains who mistreat them? Check. Homoeroticism? Oh my, yes, that's a check. The Immortals even busted out a dropkick and their big muscle monster hit a chokeslam.
I don't see how any of that translates to "Zack Snyder is the perfect man to bring the most accomplished comic book series ever to the big screen". Well, I can see how Warners execs saw naked Dr. Manhattan, thought of naked Spartans, and yelled, "Get Snyder on the phone!" Nevertheless, I'll save my complainng - or praise - until I see the movie. And I am dying to see it. It's Watchmen!
