If anyone's interested in watching a little academic competition, you can watch the Arkansas over-all quiz bowl finals tomorrow on live stream. I play for Benton. I'm D.J. THIS GUY.
In the event that you're interested, all the information is HERE

As a former 3 year all conference Quiz Bowler and captain of a team which just barely missed our State tourney, I wish you good luck dude. And if the question is about architecture, just say "Frank Lloyd Wright"....trust me ;)

I was in a science bowl my junior year in high school. I'm still pissed at my team captain for not listening to me when I told her the answer to the tie-breaker was mRNA. I was right, she was wrong, we lost.
Yeah, we lost, but it wasn't completely unexpected. The questions this year have been god-awful. We usually can still play well on bad questions, but we've been lacking on these throughout the state tournaments. The team we played in the semifinals was just better at these than we were. We'll have a better time at nationals, hopefully. We like those questions and play them much, much better.
Did anyone actually watch?

We don't have Quiz Bowl up here...we have a reasonable, hand-drawn facsimile called Reach For the Top...but it doesn't have the prestige that Quiz Bowl seems to.
Arkansas is weird. The Arkansas Activities Association regulates all the way up to the class finals. As far as they're concerned, we're 5A state champions, Morrilton won 4A, Pulaski Academy won 3A, Cutter won 2A, and Sulphur Rock won 1A, and that's the end of it. AGQBA does this tournament for show and for an excuse to give away some money. So, we're state champions...just not AGQBA champions.
Very confusing.

I did "It's Academic" which is basically the same thing, just on TV every week. As a senior though we were at a tournament in Baltimore sponsored by Loyola College, and it was a close game, which us down by a tad. The only problem was that the last category was all about "Army of Darkness." Now I'm not sure about anybody else, but in HS I'd never even heard of Army of Darkness for whatever reason.
The thing that pisses me off the most is that today I could probably answer every question in spades...
Waitwaitwait. He REWROTE the first book? Ugh. I realize that there's a 20 year gap between the writing of The Gunslinger and The Drawing of the Three (you think waiting five years between books was bad, my mom was waiting 15 for the second one)
