I remember when people first started talking about the roster split. It was supposed to lead to Flair bringing back WCW, while Vince kept the WWF name. So let's say this is still going to happen. They've set up WCW to suck AGAIN. Smackdown/WWF has the better talent, and Raw/WCW is stuck with a lot of the old guys. Hopefully they won't bring WCW back like this.

those were just rumours. And I don't agree that RAW sucks more than Smackdown. While I can't watch Smackdown here, from the spoilers, it sounds pretty bad each week with the exception of this week.

If that were to happen, it would come across as really lame.

A year ago, I believe the plan was to split the WWF so that WCW would get a Saturday Night show to rebuild itself on TNN, but it didn't pan out that way, because the WWF wanted to ruin WCW's credibility right from the start for whatever reason.

So, now the WWF sits alone. Wallowing in its own crapulance. It could be argued that the WWF is becoming WCW, though. nWo, Hogan as champ, glass ceiling, declining ratings? It's happening again.

I don't know if it was Vince's intention to kill off the WCW... it MAY have been, I'm just not completely convinced...

I remember reading that once they HAD failed with the Invasion, they tossed out the idea of trying to bring back the WCW and came up with this brand extension. Really, there's no reason to try to ressurect WCW at this point... they're trying to ressurect the nWo and POSSIBLY trying to ressurect the Cruiserweight division? those are the only parts of WCW worth saving at this point (and I'm not even convinced that nWo is still viable).

What is MORE likely is a rebirth of ECW... have you seen Heat? Most of your stock ECW guys are on the Sun/Mon TV as well as Heyman, so I see a little more of THAT flavor seeping into the product than I see WCW influence.

(BTW, I'm trying to keep up with the changing rosters--while learning CSS--with this handy list.)

Umm...dude, Raw already IS wCw. We've had, what, nothing but Nitro finishes after the first show? Replace "Austin" with "Sting" in the recaps and you pretty much have 1998 wCw, except without Chris Jericho getting 10 minutes on the mic before Deano kicked his ass again....

I think once they heard the thunderous boos whenever the WCW name was mentioned they killed that idea...

Q: If you could have interviewed Marvin Gaye, where would you have proposed to meet and what would you have asked him?

A: I would have met anywhere as long as it was before his father shot him. I would have asked him, "Hey, don't you think there's some chance that your father might shoot you? To death, I mean?"

Exactly. I don't know if a WCW-only show was ever really in the cards, though it's obvious that the WWF has certainly become WCW. But I imagine that even before it all began, they probably thought that it was unlikely the former WCW stars could carry a show on their own.

It's weird, the whole NWO angle was that it was a poison that would kill the WWF. It's starting to look like life imitating a work, except with WCW-style booking being the poison. It's certainly killed this fan's interest.

That being said, I think the falling ratings would have happened regardless. They're just trying to do a quick fix by appealing to the non-wrestling fans who remember Hogan. I still believe they realize they can't go on the way they are for the long term, and it's just a stalling tactic until they come up with a plan for the future.

I was at the infamous Tacoma RAW (where Booker T and Buff were in the main event), and I'll tell you, it wasn't like that. Coming off of Shane's acquisition of WCW, the Wrestlemania match with Vince, Linda forcing Vince to have WCW matches on WWF shows, WCW was being set up as a babyface promotion.

When Shane came out that night in Tacoma, he was cheered. When he announced the main event, it was cheered. Booker T and Buff were cheered when they came out. The booing didn't start until a few minutes into the match, when it started to suck. And after it sucked for a few more minutes, the booing got louder, and didn't stop until supposed-heels Angle and Austin broke it up to a face pop. When they ran Smackdown the very next night in Tacoma (I was there too), THAT'S when WCW got booed whenever they showed the logo or mentioned it.

Here was the problem: Up here in the Seattle/Tacoma area, we get the WWF maybe once a year, twice if they run a house show. So when they came into town it was a big deal. But they were already missing HHH, The Rock, and Benoit. Austin and Angle weren't going to wrestle because of the injuries they'd sustained at KOTR. So people were already a little disappointed. And then when the main event of a show which we won't see for another 12 months started to suck ... well, people got pissed.

But I still think the WWF could have turned that all around instead of changing everything they'd planned because of the boos. All they had to do was wait until they got to the next city (I think it was Atlanta). Have Shane come out wearing a Braves/Falcons/Hawks/whatever jersey and talk about how "they don't know anything in Tacoma. Atlanta's the shit, though," something along those lines. And then WCW would be a babyface all over again.

I think so. At least she won't be making anymore booking decisions.
