I've just had this article pointed out to me:

http://bennyhills.fortunecity.com/hardy/203/nonbeliever/page50.html

Specifically, this quote:

Bush: No, I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.

I've seen it other places, and Snopes doesn't seem to have anything on it, leading me to believe it might be true. But can anyone point me to verification or something discrediting it. If true, that is a truly insane quote.

A strict constructionist interprets the Constitution according to the language and original intent of the text at the time of its writing, in much the same way as a fundamentalist views the Bible. Fortunately, for strict constructionists, they have been endowed by God with the superhuman gift of being able to read the minds of people who died 200 years ago. Naturally, they use this power only for good -

If it's Richard "Kinky" Friedman, I suppose it's possible. It's going to be fun to see him try, anyway. The New Yorker had a big writeup about his campaign, which seems to focus on education reform and slowing down the executions.
