Ok, enough of this Oscar bullshit, lets get down to the only show that mattered last night. We start with Shane and Rick talking about well mostly Rick talking about what to do about the future. Well, Rick goes on about his plans, Shane looks outside the window and sees a walker in the field. They stop and open the trunk to where Randall, the one legged guy who now has both legs, is shoved in the back tied up with a ski mask and Walkman headphones taped to his ears. They talk about what to do with him as they stop then argue about everything under the sun then move on.

While the guys are doing this, Lori is taking care of now back from her coma, Holly? Holly wants to kill herself and Lori stop her. Lori gets Maggie who lays into Holly and we get the suicide pact talk from the comics, but with different characters. Lori and Andrea get into whether suicide is the answer. Andrea gives a hell of a speech about Lori living a charmed life and being a total disaster at the same time. You know if this was anyone, but Andrea, this would have been awesome. Yet, its Andrea who shot Darryl in the head, has caused her suicidal tendencies to almost kill the group at times and oh yeah is about as stable as an earthquake. Summation to all of this is Holly does make the attempt, but she somehow chooses life in a bizarre way. In the end, Maggie is on team Rick and Lori which is the only major thing that happens.

Ok, back to the best part of the show. Rick vs. Shane. For the entire run of this show, we have waited for this fight and it does not disappoint. Bloody and brutal. During the fight, Shane throws a giant wrench at Rick threw a window that was housing a ton of Walkers. Rick uses a dead walker to hide behind which was a great call back while Shane is stuck in a bus that is being overrun. Rick gets pinned down and is piled on by three zombies and he shots one in the head to get the third he can not reach. Awesome. Randall escapes, but Rick catches up to him and it looks like they are leaving Shane to die. Now, here comes the giant rather convenient moment of Rick looking down to see two dead security zombies they killed earlier and reminding him of Shane and his friendship. Rick and Randall go back for Shane in an awesome car rescue. In the end, Rick tells Shane he needs him back. Shane doesn't say much, but takes his gun then looks out the window to see the same walker in the cornfield. Next week, Darryl goes Vic Mackey from Shield on Randall.

Ok, a few things. One, the wife noticed Shane said the security zombies didn't look to have bites. Rick reasoned they were scratched. Wife's reasoning, the virus is airborne. Two, I am not sure how Randall was able to save his leg maybe I missed it in all the Hershel talk from last week, but he looked fine. Three, I am not sure what the walker in the cornfield symbolizes, but Shane seeing himself in the broken window might have lead to a change in him or not, its hard to say. Four, I know people were already talking about Randall getting the short end of the stick, but he was taped to the car seat and considering the giant casting this news, I think any sympathy you have for him while be gone by the finale. Lastly, Maggie is the only redeemable female on this show. Tonight highlighted it, Lori being hover mom, Andrea being the theme song to MASH and Holly just coming off like an emo kid. If Maggie dies in this series and the rest of these dumb bitches don't. I may lose my mind. All in all, one of the strongest episodes to date if for nothing else the action.

I don't think the virus is airborne, seeing as how our "heroes" have been up close & personal with plenty of zombies without becoming infected. Unless it stays dormant until a person dies? The other theory is that anyone who dies will return as a zombie, even if they have not been otherwise infected. It'll be curious to see if they reveal that by the end of the season.

And Lone Field Zombie symbolizes Shane. I thought that was pretty obvious. He's the only one who noticed it. He's feeling increasingly isolated & alone in this strange new world, much like that lone zombie shuffling through that field.

The Walking Dead 2x10 - "18 Miles Out" (Mod, please fix thread title and logo)

Rick vs. Shane was amazing. That was The Walking Dead version of Evil Superman vs. Clark Kent in Superman III. The two halves of Walking Dead World ethics and morality having the big throwdown and coming to a tenuous understanding - Rick wins, Shane acquiesces.

Why did Rick and Shane have to have their big mano e mano right in yard of the Department of Walkers? Great choice there, Rick.

Rick's 44 magnum has the magic bullet that can go through three Walker heads during the Walker pyramid pile on on top of him.

Meanwhile, back at the farm, we've got the Real Housewives of Atlanta going on. Andrea tore Lori a new one about being the Queen Bee and it's about time. Lori's more 1960s housewife than Betty Draper on Mad Men: "The men can handle it." Plus Andrea was right about Lori stealing and crashing Maggie's car. "Did you apologize to her yet?" Pwned!

Lori and Andrea should have had a Whisper in their Men's Ear contest. Maybe next week?

I knew Beth (her name is Beth, lotjx) was faking that coma Buster Bluth style! Man, that roast chicken dinner looked good; I'd have eaten it since she didn't want it. Look at Beth wasting precious food in Walking Dead world. That's a valuable chicken! Chickens don't go on trees. You can't just go out to the store and get a Perdue oven stuffer roaster anymore!

I wish Lori would have whispered in Beth's ear during their tete a tete: "Don't you agree Shane's dangerous?"

I liked Beth pleading for Maggie to join her in committing suicide. Reminded me a little of what Mr. Burns told Smithers once: "When I die, you'll be buried alive with me!"

And this week's episode of The Secret Life of The American Teenager ends with Beth deciding for herself she doesn't want to die. Yet.

None of that drama with all those cracker women would have happened if T-Dog were around!

The Lovely Mrs. Tracker yelled profanities at the TV when Lori told Andrea they had to let the men protect them. She never has that kind of reaction. Andrea was completely right the whole episode.

I think this is the strongest episode of the whole series, and it's unrealistic to expect the show to maintain this level of tension and character positioning each week.

Its why I have a question mark beside Holly's name. Yeah, go ahead and change title and logo. I still say that Andrea giving Lori that speech is a bit out there. It was also a bit of a cheat for Lori not to bring up shooting our friends in their back and forth. Yeah, seriously on the food. If anything I am glad they had the gas tanks in the back of the car to remind people there are no Sheetz to gas up at.

Rick's 44 magnum has the magic bullet that can go through three Walker heads during the Walker pyramid pile on on top of him.

3rd zombie in the pile-up was *so* dressed like Han Solo from ANH, with the black vest over white shirt. I was all, "Zombie Han Solo!"

And how much time lapsed between last week's & this episode? Randall sure seemed to be getting around pretty well for a dude who impaled himself on a metal fence spike. Maybe they rubbed him with some of that magic salve that they must have used on Carl, who seems to be perfectly fine after getting shot in the chest & almost dying.

I think Shane and Rick said they held him for a week. Still doesn't seem like enough time, but Herschel has the magic touch with all things medical.

This is my wife's biggest problem with the show. This was her four angry questions before leaving the room:

What ever happened to the black guy's arm that got cut really bad?

How is the little boy up and running after almost dying when he was shot?

How is it the bitchy lady gets into a major car accident and NOBODY thinks maybe the baby was hurt?

How is it that that guy was impaled on of fence and is now running away from zombies?

With that she left. And she is right. There is more major medical problems solved now then before the zombies. I did not even get into Daryl taking a stick to the abdomen (leg?) when he was looking for Sophia.

It is questions like this that take away my joy from this show. I like it, but like The Killing and all of its holes (which are way WAY worse than TWD), the holes here make me like it less.

Life is hilariously cruel.

Well, he did use one bullet to shoot through the already dead zombie on top of him, and splattered the brain of the 3rd "alive" one with the 2nd bullet.
Which made for another great visual. Him just emptying his gun on the pile of zombies on top of him.

Shane's method of killing was bad ass too. Make 'em lick your blood and then stake them.

The suicide pact was actually nicely done. It was obvious Maggie wouldn't go for it, but her sister sure tried her best to convince her.

And this show does need more T-Dog.
I wonder how his arm is doing, considering everyone else seems to recover miraculously from more serious injuries.

And Spiff, you're right. The virus would only start working if/once you're dead.
Between this remark and Rick shooting the guy in the head (after shooting his chest) last week, I think he knows something that he hasn't shared yet.

Great dialogue and action this week. The best episode of the season, maybe the entire show.

I was actually convinced for a moment that Rick really was going to ditch Shane, which would have been mind-blowing in more ways than one. You would have had the irony of Shane being on the other end of what he did with Otis. You would have had Rick turning to be less of a hero than he thought himself to be. I would have totally bought that. But what they ended up going with works just as well, given that Shane's going to try and take over the camp again.

I'm with the general sentiment. This is one of the best episodes of the series to date. But I also agree that these people could take lessons from Zack Ryder on how to sell a long-term injury.

I was wondering if the virus might become airborne when burnt, and it just takes longer to take than a normal bite.

I really liked this episode. Having half the cast and more zombies was a nice change. I would be nice to have Shane act normal for a couple of episodes, or at least struggle with acting like he used to.

Did they say where Herschel went? How do they let the only doctor that just wandered off, wander off?

I Lori stayed more in line with how she was today, I'd have far less problems with her.

I really enjoyed the symbolism of the lone walker. One, because it wasn't too overt, and two, because it made me remember something from the pilot, when they were talking about how a single walker wasn't dangerous. Alone, they're nothing - and neither is Shane. That's why he hasn't just taken off like he threatened to, that's why he's invested himself so much in Lorie and Carl. He needs the group to survive, just as much as he thinks they need him.

Bingo. This sums up Shane. As much as he wants everyone to THINK he is a loner, he needs the group more than anyone.

The leg thing bugged me bigtime. Hershal said that they couldn't just pull it off the post without major damage, but then they did anyway and he's RUNNING a week later??

I thought Rick was gonna leave Shane too. That woulda been awesome. Now the situation is even worse because Shane knows he contemplating ditching him. How can Rick not think he's taking a major risk bringing Shane back??

Another guy here who was convinced that Rick was going to leave Shane for dead. That's what I would've done! By now though I think Rick is completely delusional in terms of his belief that he can control Shane.

Perhaps as the show continues to evolve, Shane is going to be the Kane to Rick's Cena, and slowly show him the right way is the evil way.

Shane throwing the wrench, shattering the window gave us a great shot of what I thought was Shane contemplating his reflection in the shattered glass, realising how low he'd sunk to be trying to kill his best friend. Alas, it was merely a shit-load of walkers which was also great.

I loved that shot. I saw it as Shane seeing his reflection in the shattered glass and thinking: "I'm a monster!" Then: "Oh my God! A BUNCH OF REAL MONSTERS!"

I don't think that it's airborne. I think them pointing out that the guards had scratches was to set up Rick's Zombie Pyramid situation a few minutes later. He was in no risk of being bit, but they clearly showed that top zombie (Zombie Han Solo, I believe) clawing at his shirt while Rick struggled, getting closer to tearing through his shirt with each grab.

Other than that, I agree with just about every comment here. This was one of their strongest episodes yet, and I hope this is a good example of new direction they said the show's heading in. Hopefully they can keep it up.

Loved this episode! I get the concern with the injuries seemingly heeling too fast. Are there any indicators on how much time has actually passed in between these latest episodes?

I know that the previous week Hershel indicated that Randall has some damage to his leg after being stitched up but he would be able to walk in about a week. With that line being stated I wonder if it's been at least a week or more since the events of the last episode unfolded.

A cut up a Rick and cut up Shane blasting heads and having zombie blood spatter fall all over them seemed to not be a concern. Kinda like when Daryl fell on the same arrow that he killed multiple zombies with.... Nothing ever happened to him nor did their seem to be any concern. All of that could just be errors by the writers. I don't think so though. There is something different to this zombie infection than what we typically see in Zombie flicks.
