It's basically orange soda with an EXTREME attitude. Whether or not there's traces of regular Mountain Dew in there as well I haven't been able to figure out yet.

Tasted like old average orange soda to me...Code Red and the original Dew are a lot better.

Sunkist and Diet Sunkist both contain caffeine, 41 and 42 mg per 12 oz serving respectively. Most of the Mt. Dew's are in the 53-55 mg range, although I don't see Livewire listed in this chart. I just wish they had a diet version of Livewire.

But it doesn't make me want to go running out to buy another, which is one of regular Coke's more endearing (or less endearing, depending on your perspective) traits.

This explains why we haven't seen it north of the border (and why I had no idea what the W-of-the-week was). Canadian law bars soft drink manufacturers from adding caffeine to any soda that is not a cola. Why? Couldn't tell you. Suffice to say that Mountain Dew's original lemon-lime flavor is a lot less stimulating here than it is there.
They brought Code Red up, but probably because there's nothing similar already on the market. We've already got plenty of non-caffeinated orange sodas, however.
What I find interesting is that when the "Barq's has bite" campaign was in full swing, I thought they meant it had more flavor than your average root beer. Silly me: in the US it's one of the few root beers with caffeine; up here, they can't add it (root beer is not cola). Those commercials make somewhat more sense now that I'm aware of this...
