Yes, it's that time of year once again - it's time for the 2003 Fuzzies: The Only Awards That Matter. You can reply to this thread, or send me a personal message, or email me at fuzzymcs@hotmail.com

Ok, I've got some time on my hands before I start writing new syllabi.

Breakthrough: Bright Eyes

Worst Cover: Tough category, but anything that involves Clay Aiken is inherently evil so I'll pick his.

Best Cover: The toughest category since there are, IMO, three really good choices and two really bad ones but I'll take Weird Al in a close call over Warren Zevon

Most Overplayed: Stacy's Mom

Best Compilation: No Thanks

Worst Video: "I'm Glad"

Best Video: "Bad Day"

Worst Song: "Get Busy"

Best Nonsingle: "Waste of Paint"

Best Single: "Bad Day"

Worst Artist: using the term loosely, Clay Aiken

AOY: None of the Above? (if that doesn't work, Johnny Cash)

Worst Album: I haven't heard Macho Man's, so I'll have to take "Results May Vary".

Album of the Year: None of the Above? (if that doesn't work, Johnny Cash)

Hall of Fame: WTF? Where in the blue blazes is Warren Zevon? If I can't write him in, The Clash, Elvis Costello, and Bob Marley and the Wailers

Tim

How can you have a true Hall of Fame vote without Neil Diamond or Barry Manilow? Its a travesty of justice, and that's not even including the exclusion of Robert Goulet.

If only Paul Jones had brought in General Skandar Akbar as a technical military advisor, Paul Jones' Army could have thwarted the McMahon infidels and prevented the collapse of wrestling civilization.

Bah. They call Clay Aiken the young Barry Manilow like that's a good thing. I was under the impression that everyone was waiting for the old Barry Manilow to die. What the hell do we need a new one for?

(And, besides, anyone who's career is launched by losing on a game show is automatically suspect in my book.)

Sure I would disagree with most of the GC hate, but I must vote in order to get Weird Al and Outkast the props they deserve:

Breakthrough: The Darkness

Worst Cover Song/Parody: * "Behind Blue Eyes" - LIMP BIZKIT ("Results May Vary"; original by The Who)

Best Cover Song/Parody: * "Angry White Boy Polka" - "WEIRD AL" YANKOVIC ("Poodle Hat"; originals by Papa Roach, System of a Down, The Vines, The Hives, The White Stripes, The Strokes, Disturbed, Rage Against The Machine, Limp Bizkit, Staind, Kid Rock, P.O.D. and Eminem)

Most Overplayed Song: * "Get Busy" - SEAN PAUL ("Dutty Rock")

Compilation/Soundtrack: * "Sesame Street - Songs From The Street: 35 Years of Music"

Worst Music Video: * "Me Against The Music" - BRITNEY SPEARS feat. MADONNA ("In The Zone")

Best Music Video: * "Move Your Feet" - JUNIOR SENIOR ("D-D-Don't Stop The Beat")

Worst Song: * "American Life" - MADONNA

Best Nonsingle: * "Hardware Store" - "WEIRD AL" YANKOVIC ("Poodle Hat") (although I would have nominated a different song from Poodle Hat)

Best Single: * "Hey Ya!" - OUTKAST ("Speakerboxxx/The Love Below")

Worst Artist: * 50 CENT ("Get Rich or Die Tryin'")

Artist of the Year: * OUTKAST ("Speakerboxxx/The Love Below")

Worst Album: * "Shut Up" - KELLY OSBOURNE

Album of the Year: * "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" - OUTKAST

Hall of Fame: Rolling Stones, Ozzy, and Bruce Springsteen

The current BWF Women's Champion says:

Breakthrough: I had honestly never heard of any of them, so I listened to one song from each of them for fifteen seconds. Even though the song I heard sounded a bit weird, I'll vote the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Worst Cover: It was the only one I heard and it was bad, so "Feel Like Makin' Love" by Kid Rock

Best Cover: "Angry White Boy Polka" by Weird Al Yankovic

Most Overplayed Song: Good friggin' lord...I had to endure this song so much at work. "Bring Me To Life" - Evanescense

Best Soundtrack: Since it's the only one I've heard, Kill Bill Volume One soundtrack.

Worst Music Video: "I'm Glad" Jennifer Lopez

Best Video: "Hurt" by Johnny Cash

Worst Song: "American Life" by Madonna

Best Non-single: "In the Cold, Cold Night" by The White Stripes

Best Single: "Hey Ya" by Outkast

Worst Artist: The one and only chipmunk boy, Clay Aiken.

Artist of the Year: My concious will smother me at night with a pillow if I don't pick Johnny Cash.

Worst Album: "Shut Up" by Kelly Osbourne

Best Album: "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" by Outkast

Hall of Fame: Nine Inch Nails (of course), Ozzy, and the Stones.

Yes folks, I have actually updated my sig.

Breakthrough Artist:
- The Yeah Yeah Yeahs (for once all the hype was justified.)

Worst Cover:
- Clay Aikin (not that I hate him THAT much, but that song should never be covered by anyone.)

Best Cover:
- Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (but I think "Crazy" is better though.)

Most Overplayed:
- Evanescense (Went from mildly liking it to hating it in about a week and a half, do you work at BBV DarkRenegade? That thing was on our trailer tapes for about 3 months.)

Best Soundtrack/Compilation:
- No Thanks (Rhyno is the fuckbomb. Screw the Sex Pistols, but the compilation might actually be better off without them as it gives more room to overlooked groups.)

Worst Video:
- Good Charlotte (Like Chris Rock said, they're like a mediocre Green Day, but I'll take it a step further, they're a poseur garage band playing shitty covers of a mediocre Green Day. This vote should be made noting that I haven't seen the LB video and it would most likely win if I had.)

Best Video:
- Johnny Cash (The only video I've ever seen that moved me to tears.)

Worst Song:
- "Have You Forgotten?" (Hey, I liked that Liam Lynch song!)

Best Non-Single:
- White Stripes (Haven't heard a lot of these, but I can't really think of a track off Elephant I don't like. It's still not De Stijl though.)

Best Single:
-Outkast (White Stripes a close second.)

Worst Artist:
-Good Charlotte (About as "punk rock" as Avril Levigne, only with less talent.)

Artist of the Year:
-Johnny Cash (Really could've gone to Outkast or White Stripes too.)

Worst Album:
Limp Bizkit

Album of the Year:
White Stripes

Hall of Fame:

The Rolling Stones (How were they not even in contention last year? They could have just put out Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street and still should be a first year inductee.)

Bruce Springsteen (He's honestly the first person I think of when I hear "Rock n' Roll".)

Nine Inch Nails (Not quite as legendary as the others, but Pretty Hate Machine and Broken are MY breakup albums and I had to throw in one purely personal vote here.)

COMPILATION/SOUNDTRACK:

Rob asks Dave and Ric if they want to go backstage to play Hungry Hungry Hippos and Flair and Batista immediately bail. Flair wants to be Green. Man, EVERYBODY wants to be green. Except the girl in the commercials. She wanted to be pink. That either means that the ad agency was sexist or that she was communist. Of course Hungry Hungry Hippos is a rather capitalist game isnt it? No self respecting communist would play Hungry Hungry Hippos. Except Stalin. He LOVED Hungry Hungry Hippos. I have great difficulty nominating the obvious. I still haven't ever given The Who a chance, either. "Weird Al" Yankovic, on the other hand, was inducted way back in 1997.

Screw it - I'm in (if I may)...

BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST: THE DARKNESS ("Permission To Land")

WORST COVER SONG/PARODY: "Behind Blue Eyes" - LIMP BIZKIT

May he rot in hell...

BEST COVER SONG/PARODY: "Angry White Boy Polka" - "WEIRD AL" YANKOVIC ("Poodle Hat"; originals by Papa Roach, System of a Down, The Vines, The Hives, The White Stripes, The Strokes, Disturbed, Rage Against The Machine, Limp Bizkit, Staind, Kid Rock, P.O.D. and Eminem)

Funny stuff, that.

MOST OVERPLAYED SONG: "Bring Me To Life" - EVANESCEANCE

Was this even a contest?

COMPILATION/SOUNDTRACK: "Kill Bill - Vol. 1" soundtrack

(*: Scoff all you want, but if you can think of something cooler than a CD featuring a duet between Johnny Cash and Oscar the Grouch, I'd love to hear what it is...)

More than understandable.

WORST MUSIC VIDEO: "Me Against The Music" - BRITNEY SPEARS feat. MADONNA ("In The Zone")

BEST MUSIC VIDEO: "Hurt" - JOHNNY CASH ("American IV: The Man Comes Around")

Jesus, I still have to keep the razors locked in the medicine cabinet watching this one...

WORST SONG: "The Young and the Hopeless" - GOOD CHARLOTTE

BEST NONSINGLE: "Hardware Store" - "WEIRD AL" YANKOVIC ("Poodle Hat")

Once again...

BEST SINGLE: "Hey Ya!" - OUTKAST ("Speakerboxxx/The Love Below")

I can't help it - it's infectious as hell. And I know damned well I'm not the only one that feels that way...

WORST ARTIST: CLAY AIKEN ("Measure of a Man")

Once again, a category that may as well have only one nominee.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR: OUTKAST ("Speakerboxxx/The Love Below")

That was tough to do. I was this close to giving the nod to Jane's Addiction based on personal preference, but then I tallied up the commercial success factor and that was that.

WORST ALBUM: "Be A Man" - RANDY "MACHO MAN" SAVAGE

You know something sucks if it's done by a wrestler and I STILL vote for it over limpbizkit for Worst Of The Year...

ALBUM OF THE YEAR: "UnEarthed" - JOHNNY CASH

HALL OF FAME NOMINEES:

1) Black Sabbath
2) Faith No More
3) Ministry

Boy, I feel confused...the opening post says two votes per category, but everyone seems to be voting for one. Hmmm. Well, I'm going to vote for two where I feel like it, and if that's wrong, let me know and I'll edit it.

WORST COVER SONG/PARODY: Kid Rock and Clay Aiken. The first is a bad song to begin with, the second a bad rendition.

BEST COVER SONG/PARODY: Johnny Cash and Weird Al. A lot of good stuff in this category.

MOST OVERPLAYED SONG: Evanescence

COMPILATION/SOUNDTRACK: Hey, sure, I'm a Sesame Street kid, I'll give 'em a vote. And the other to the Ramones tribute.

WORST MUSIC VIDEO: There's always room for J-Lo.

BEST MUSIC VIDEO: "Hurt". Probably the greatest video EVER (with apologies to Canadian Bulldog); the only other video that comes close in terms of emotional impact is REM's "Everybody Hurts".

WORST SONG: I don't hate anything in this category that much, but in the interest of saving the stuff I actually like, I'll vote for Madonna. (I don't even know that Liam Lynch thing.)

BEST NONSINGLE: Yes, yes, yes! "Hackensack" was my favorite song of the year! So cool that it's here, obviously it gets my vote.

BEST SINGLE: The Donnas and REM, more on their career since there really isn't a song in there I love.

WORST ARTIST: Clay. Sorry, AI fans.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR: Johnny Cash and OutKast

WORST ALBUM: Kelly Osborne and Macho Man.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR: Johnny Cash and The Fountains Of Wayne

HALL OF FAME:

Elvis Costello
Bob Marley
Bruce Springsteen

It's tempting to vote for the Pythons, but so much of their legacy wasn't in music. Maybe it would be better to nominate Neil Innes, who did much of the Monty Python musical stuff ("Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life", "Brave Sir Robin", etc.), was the mastermind of the Rutles, led the Bonzo Dog Band ("I'm The Urban Spaceman", "The Intro And The Outro"), has done a bunch of solo albums, and is a super nice guy as well.
