I thought I was pretty knowledgeable about the old NWA and WWF. However, while watching my new Monday Night Wars dvd, Vince said that he had sold the NWA promotion to Crockett before making WWF big.
I feel like a moron, because, if true, I don't remember ever hearing about this. Anybody have any more info on this claim?
I'm guessing it has something to do with the TBS timeslot and the Georgia Territory. Vince got the timeslot and a foothold into Georgia when Brisco jumped ship, and I think Crockett had to pay off Vince for the timeslot and to replace the WWF in the Omni, as the NWA didn't run in Atlanta during the year that Vince had TBS. Its only a guess, but in Vince's (warped) version of the world, that could explain how he sold the NWA to Crockett.
Pondering whether the world is ready for the Red Sox Nation Lawrence Welk Workrate Report.

(short version) Vince bought the Georgia promtion, that's how he ended up on WTBS. Later, he sold the timeslot to Jim Crockett for $1 million.
Which, if you think about in context is like owning one KFC store, selling it back to the KFC head office, and then telling someone you "sold KFC". Misleading, ain't it?
I'd tell you to kiss my ass, but I don't want to get it infected.
the WWF broadcast on TBS in question is often reffered to as "black saturday"...
After seeing the WWF stars on their TV screens, TBS was flooded with complaints wanting their 'rasslers back.
I actually won an ebay auction a few years ago for a tape of this broadcast. It's chock full of Tiger Chung Lee, Terry Gibbs and Rusty Brooks getting squashed by Vince's "superstars"!
