What a bummer. I'd really come to like the big guy and I was looking forward to the Rahman fight. It sounds like his knee is tore up like a football or basketball player's, with a torn meniscus and ruptured ACL. I wonder how that actually happened, though essentially the same thing happened to Tyson and there was no knockdown there.
On the other hand, since DK has a stake in all four heavyweight beltholders (Rahman, Byrd, Toney, and Brewster), maybe he can put that tournament together he's been harping about and get us an undisputed champ.

Toney is not a heavyweight champion right now. The belt was given back to John Ruiz.

No one. Ring won't award the belt again until their top two contenders fight, which would be Byrd #1 and Ruiz #2 for the most recent ones I could find. (Rahman's #3, and I could see them giving it to the winner of a Byrd-Rahman fight.) There are a few divisions with vacant Ring titles.

Oh, YEAH. BUT, Ruiz fights that giant Russian Nicolay Valuev (7-0, 325 lbs., 42-0 w/ 31 KOs) on Dec. 17, so hopefully he'll be going down then. I would actually watch that fight for the sheer freak show-value(v) if any US channel would show it.

| #6 Posted on 9.11.05 2317.37 | Instant Rating: 6.14 | Ring should never have given their belt to Klitchko in the first place. Who'd he beat after he lost to Lewis? Kirk Johnson, Corrie Sanders, and Danny Williams. None of those guys (MAYBE Johnson) could even be considered top 5 heavyweights.
Ring should simply hold off until there's a concensus linear, legitimate heavyweight champion.
Man's most valuable trait is a judicious sense of what not to believe.

Boxing's heavyweight division is a mess, and none of the current contenders are the singularly charismatic force needed to shake the division out of the doldrums.
