I'm a sucker for Orpheus and the Triad and that makes this episode a winner in my book. It took a bit of a twisted turn towards the end and the ending was a bit abrupt, as is often the case with this show, but it's still good stuff, even if it did seem like filler.

SHIRT OF THE WEEK: Oh yes! It's a Order of the Triad t-shirt! It couldn't be better if it had a picture of a Blackula on the back!

This was such a great episode. I totally lost it when Dr. Venture ran into the guy from Prodigy. And when the tour turned into the climax of the Shining. And when MUTHER and Father had their conversation. Just a fantastic episode from top to bottom.

IMO Jackson (okay, his name is Jefferson, my bad) had the lines of the night with "I'll be looking for Blaculas" and "I need new pants".

Did Jefferson borrow the pants of (Hank's?) Spiderman outfit?

I thought to myself "hey, that looks like Keith!" and then later when they did the "Firestarter" joke I lost it. Then I lost it AGAIN when The Art of Noise took custody of Dr. Venture. I briefly gave thought to doing a freeze frame of the gathering to try to identify all the 80s/90s artists represented but decided it would be a fool's errand to try.

That mood-altering sequence was...unnerving.

MY favourite Jefferson line: "Thinkin' he's got a chance with his daughter...THAT'S an active imagination!" Runner-up: "I go where the blaction is."

As we go on, we are learning that Jonas appears to have had some spectacular failures of his own. I'm not sure how to take that.

Another awesome episode this week. Jefferson had a lot of great lines. The action figures were great. And Mr's White's story about what they do when Brock brings over a lady friend was classic.

Not sure how you pick the best line of the night:

"He wrote a poem...for his dollies."

"Now I got the blue balls in my blood eye."

"There was even talk of french toast but their was none to be had."

"what you don't know about me would fill a big ass book."

And the whole conversation about that guy from the Avengers ruled.

I really want to know the story about Rusty's mother. And how long before we find out that Jonas actually stole all his inventions or had outsourced all his work to 1960's India?

The Firestarter joke had me roaring. The Ant-Man references were chuckly funny, but it was obvious what route they were going with when you saw how the guy was dressed.

The Triad stuff was gold. "I'll use a psychic manifestation!" "I'll cast a spell!" "I'll look around for Blaculas. Nope, none."

How about this: I'm thinking that the flashbacks/visions of Jonas that we've seen in previous seasons are pretty much all from Rusty's POV (or imagination). More objective viewers knew that Jonas was a perfectly fallible megalomaniac, but for Rusty, daddy was at all times hyper-perfect. And it's that delusion that Rusty doesn't have a chance in hell of living up to.

Maybe?

Um, does this mean you guys think we'll have a very special (read: very unfunny) episode of the Venture that'll explain this? I'm not saying the issue's impossible, but this stance is kind of hard to translate into comedy.

I mean, the big thing I take is that Jonas was self-made, if not by some bizarre means, and Rusty is NOT.

I agree. I mean, we've seen over time that Jonas has had some pretty nasty mis-steps, but he's also got a lot of unqualified successes, enough so that Rusty's been coasting on name recognition for his entire adult life.

Not at all! Among the things that makes the show good is that all the characters have history, backstory & depth. They have personalities. Where some of those personality traits come from is interesting. That sets it apart from the 2-dimensional Johnny Quest style "This week's adventure is..."

We've already gotten a lot of comedy about Rusty thinking he can't live up to dad's reputation. "Careers in Science" (where the blue "trouble" light comes on in Gargantua 1) is all about Rusty's perspective on dad. No reason at all to think that we have to have a shark-jumping "special" episode, just because we start to see that dad wasn't really all as perfect as Rusty thinks.

We're just keeping the character exposition moving along. That's a good thing.
