John Cena retains Edge retains Benoit submits Punk for the title. Handhake afterwards. Marella retains by DQ (Umaga kills him dead). Porter retains by cheating. Candice Michelle pins Melina for the title. Yang pins Guerrero for the title. Deuce & Domino retain. Cade & Murdoch retain.
Originally posted by oldschoolheroIt makes perfect sense. The open match was announced, he was a former WWE champion, and it was a golden opportunity for him to get a title shot as a part-timer. Why wouldn't he take up the offer of a shot at Cena?
Point taken, I forgot about the "open" part of the match.
I guess my main point, though, is that here a future Hall of Famer is getting his first World title shot since 2000, and it's part of a 5 way match with no build up.
I remember reading in Foley's last book that they briefly discussed doing a Cena-Foley match at Summerslam last year, but it never panned out. Perhaps this will lead to that match this year? Maybe even a fluke win by Foley tonight to win the title starts the angle? Somehow I doubt it, I imagine if the belt changes hands, it will be Orton that wins (cringe).
Oh, and picks: Cena Edge Benoit Umaga Cade/Murdoch MVP and if I must choose: Melina, Yang, and Deuce/Domino.
Dean! Have you been shooting dope into your scrotum? You can tell me! I'm hip!
Orton wins the WWE title. Edge retains the World title, after Flair turns on Batista. Benoit over Punk to win the ECW title. Cade/Murdoch over Hardyz. MVP over Flair. Deuce/Domino over Major Brothers. Morella over Umaga. Guerrero over Yang. Candice over Melina.
Originally posted by thecubsfanOn the Draft show, Mr. McMahon announced that any former world champions who were on the RAW Brand at the end of the night were eligible to challenge Cena for the title at Vengeance. Lashely and Booker got drafted to the show, Orton was already there, and Foley did a promo noting that, due to his prior feuds, he happened to be listed as a RAW star and figured he might as well not pass up a free title shot.
Austin's also assigned to RAW, but that ain't happening. I don't remember if they had Rock listed, not that it matters. Sandman was drafted to RAW in the supplemental draft, but since that wasn't till Sunday, he isn't eligible.
Putting the Sandman in that match would have been something else. Now that I know the 'why' of the match I have to say I am surprised that there are so few past champions on the Raw roster.
Well, normally Triple H and Shawn Michaels would fill in two more spots, but they're both out due to injury. Taking them into account rounds the numbers out a lot better.
Now I'm wondering, who would participate in the Smackdown version of that match? Batista, Edge, JBL in the Foley role, and.. Undertaker and Rey are both injured. I'm probably forgetting someone obvious.
Well, it does seem like this feud is destined to continue endlessly, so at least this is a change of sorts. I like this idea. In fact, I think Test should make Steiner wear the shiny sleeveless tuxedo like Virgil used to wear.
