I was really digging those old school promos on Velocity. For those of you who missed it, Noble/Nidia, Hogan, HHH and Hurricane all cut promos w/o an interviewer infront of a non-descript backdrop.
So Heyman's writing for SD? I wonder if it felt weird filming those promos at the stadium instead of in his Mom's basement.
Let me tell you something about those promos -- the lack of them is one of the biggest deficiencies the WWF/WWE has had since 1995 or so. They're a great way to get midcard talent over. Nobody cares about, say, Albert because they don't know who he is. People knew who the Repo Man was, 'cause they'd cut into Macho Man matches for "prerecorded comments" from Barry Darsow about stealing Savage's hat.
It's a great idea to bring them back, though they still looked a little cue-cardy and amateurish. They should put the guy's logo in the background like on Superstars circa 1992! I wanna see "JAMIE NOBLE" in big letters on the side of a trailer!

The thing that really surprised me was they cared enough about a match between... CRAP! What the hell was his name? Randy Orton and someone who just came up from OVW. I can't remember his name because I'm tired.
Anyway...
They cared enough about that match to put in a fake injury to try and get the heel over and give the fans a reason to care about the match. I thought it was a great touch.
And what would you call that finisher Orton used? I was thinking of naming it a "Cross Froggy" or something.

From the desk of Swordsman Yen I like the old school promos. I'd also would like to see them done in the style of Saturday Night's Main Event, as in have a series of promos at the beginning of the show from wrestlers involved in major matches.

That was "Iroman" Rob Conway.
And I agree - he (along with Nick Dinsmore, who's his tag partner and is also pretty good) need to be called up to the main WWF/E roster.
Am I the only one breathlessly awaiting the debut of the Island Boyz in the WWF?
Bart: Hey, immigrants! Beat it! Country's full! Sailor: OK people, you heard the lady. Back into the hold. We'll try Canada. [the immigrants moan] -- "The City of New York Vs. Homer Simpson"

I think the old style stuff works really well and they probably only really got rid of it for the whole attitude spin (it being easier to get pissed at a person than a camera)and I say bring it back.

I actually thought that was the direction they'd go in with the whole Rikishi/Billy & Chuck thing. I figured that right after Rikishi/Rico dropped the belts back to the AGD, Rikishi could start hyping up his revenge plan. Then they could debut the ISland Boyz at KOTR or something.
But alas, it is not to be...

Yeah Conway impressed me. He is what the WWE needs. An out and out total dick heel. Only UT it close right now. Also I know they are trying to make Orton look good but if they do move up Conway what did they gain having Orton win? A double countout or DQ would have worked just as well.
I just have 13 words for you. How much wood would a woodchuch chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Orton jumped off the top rope and landed perpendicular to Conway (chest to chest). Isn't that just called a "cross body press"? I didn't think it was much of a finisher.
Re: Island Boyz
Isn't one of them still recovering from an injury? I assume that's why there's been a delay in debuting them (as tag team are DESPERATELY needed- dang, who'd have thought that would be the case one year ago?)
I liked the old school promos on Velocity as well. They did some old school promos on Jakked/Metal last year during the Slam Jam segment. I also liked the ECW promos as well.
