| #1 Posted on 20.9.03 2240.10 | Instant Rating: 5.69 | Not a lot to say this week, as there were a lot of people around, I was slightly drunk and I watched the show half out of order, watching the middle live then rewinding and watching the beginning during the recap and catching the end again live.
The good news? Only one recap this week. The bad news? The recap was over 15 minutes long. Commentary was good, as usual, from Josh & Tazz. Only had me out of my chair laughing once, but that's more than anything that's not South Park can manage.
Big Show vs. Pat Cusick & Murray Happer - 60 second squash.
Commercial for The Rundown. I'd like to know Rock's honest opinion of this movie. Obviously he can't admit to it now, but this movie looks to be truly horrid, through no fault of his own. I'd love to see what he'd have to say about the movie 6 months from now on Dinner for Five.
Matt Hardy vs. Joey Matthews - This is the first time I've seen Matthews. He looks like the bastard love child of Billy Kidman and someone who I've forgetten now, thus ruining the joke.
Matt Facts: Matt hates waiting in lines. Matt tailgates slow drivers in the passing lane.
Hardy plays the total babyface here. Basically, that means he does the exact same thing he normally does except the crowd cheered him when he screamed I’m V-Onnneee-uuhhhh! Oh, and one time he blocked a cheapshot attempt from Matthews, as well as getting in all 10 punches of the Crowd Counts To Ten While I Punch You In The Face. I suppose those are babyface moves.
The announcers not only mention that Hardy & Matthews have a history, they talk about how they came up together in OMEGA and how Matthews teamed with Christian York to feud with Matt & Jeff. Good back and forth action with Joey Matthews not coming off as a jobber at all. Hardy's legdrop is apparently called the Downfall now, but he wins with the Side Effect followed by a Twist of Fate.
Orlando Jordan vs. Chuck Palumbo - Decent matchup. Nothing outstanding, but you don't really expect anything outstanding from either of these guys. I thought Jordan was legit hurt at one point when he was outside the ring and completely dead weight when Chuck tried to lift him and Palumbo looked to the ref once or twice before finally picking Orlando up and throwing him back in the ring, but I guess it was intentional. Excellent commentary on this match (see below) which Jordan wins via Black Ice.
Recap: Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar in a 60 Minute Iron Man Match. (Am I the only one who keeps trying to type 60 Man Iron Man Match?) I guess they figured the ratings were so low on Thursday that a lot of people watching Velocity hadn't seen it, so we get the final 15 or 20 minutes in full. This gave me plenty of time to rewind the tape (I started taping, but then started watching halfway through) and watch the beginning of the match, as well as go to the bathroom and change a lightbulb that hard burned out, thus making it difficult to take notes. Just like on Thursday, Brock prevents Kurt from tying it up by playing Ro-Sham-Bo.
Billy Kidman vs. Shannon Moore - I had high hopes for this match which weren't quite met, but it was a perfectly good match. I want to say it was a little slow paced, but it really wasn't, there just weren't any spectacular spots (aside from their finishers) that made the match stand out. Fully deserving of being the main event, just not meeting the potential that you'd think these two have. Then again, it's Velocity, so I won't hold it against them.
Shannon Moore has the best pants in the WWE and Kidman has the best theme song.
Some more excellent commentary from Josh & Tazz (once again, see below) and a few nice moves, as well. I really like Billy Kidman's DVD into a neckbreaker, as it looks legit painful and the DVD portion doesn't just look like pointless flash. Beautiful Halo from Shannon Moore, as well, but Kidman lets the original MFer have it his way with the BK Bomb and the Shooting Star Press.
Exchange of the Night:
Orlando Jordan with a flying forearm. Josh: Flying Forearm, shades of Tito Santana! Orlando Jordan with a backdrop. Tazz: Backdrop shades of Rick Martel! Not really, I just wanted to throw another old timer's name out there. As Jordan is climbing the ropes. Josh: We've got a Strike Force happening tonight! From out of nowhere, as Jordan hits a flying crossbody. Tazz: POWERS OF PAIN!
-Runners-Up-
Josh: Orlando Jordan with a right hand. Tazz: I use my right hand a lot.
Shannon Moore catches a dropkick in the face. Tazz: No more tea bagging for Shannon Moore, he just caught one right in the kisser.
Shannon Moore throws his trademark tantrum after a nearfall. Tazz: Shades of Michael Cole throwing a hissy fit when he doesn't get his way. Hissy means little girl, you know a lot about that. Josh: I do not!
In reference to Joey Matthews... Josh: No relation, he spells his name with two Ts, I only have one. Tazz: So do I. Josh: But you have two Zs, though. Tazz: I used to have one, but that's another story.
And possibly Tazz's greatest call ever, as Kidman leapfrogs Moore...
Tazz: Shades of Poker Face? Did Poker Face do that move last week? Tazz & Josh: SHADES OF POKER FACE!
It does my heart good to see that they realize who the Next Big Thing really is...
Overall, a good but not great show. Like I said earlier, I'm tired and slightly drunk, so please forgive any errors. And I can't remember the setup to Tazz's line about the Irish Whip, so if someone feels like filling it in, please do. :)| Promote this thread! | | fuelinjected

| #2 Posted on 21.9.03 0020.08 | Instant Rating: 5.15 | Palumbo does a Samoan Drop:
Tazz: "Didn't know Palumbo had a Samoan background but I guess you don't have be Samoan to do a Samoan backdrop. I used to do Irish Whips and I ain't Irish."
Josh: "I was just about to say the same thing."
Also when Palumbo did the belly to belly, I liked Tazz's "Shades of Tazz" comment.

TAZZ: "Hissy mean's little girl, you know all about that... JOSH: "No I don't"... TAZZ: "Yeah that would be (tazz pauses) never mind"
OMG did Tazz just stop himself short of is Yeah that would be that Raw announcer! To me that what it really sounded like he was thinking and going but stopped.
Velocity wasn't as fun as last weeks. First match was a Big Show 2 on 1 squash. -Matt vs. Matthews- was the best match of the night. They went about even, the hometown crowd as really behind Matt and he played up to them. WOW they actually mentioned Jeff... -Jordan vs. Palumbo- Josh tells us Orlando is a ladies men, there's your character development LoL. -Kidman vs. Moore- They didn't really go full out and was a bit disapointing
They talk about Moore's dragon arm tatooe. TAZZ: "I have my own big dragon" (same time the Confidential banner pops up telling us it's next)... JOSH "Maybe we could see it in a future Confidential"... TAZZ(doing his Mean Gene voice) "It's strickly Confidential"

Some other Velocity-related signs:
Taz with one Z: That's Another Story
Josh: Tough Enough Loser(crossed out) -- Runner-Up
Taz: Show Your Dragon

I was fortunate to be ringside for MCW's match of the year for 1999, which was a four-way match for the Crusierweight Title between Matt, Jeff, Joey and Christian, which was a tremendous match, though in retrospect, probably spotheavy and indyriffic.

Vince NEEDS to sign Poker Face. He could have his own show on Velocity, like Stevie Night Heat. That Poker Face match was my favorite WWE match since Michaels/Jericho at Wrestlemania. The man is a GOD. If Tazz and Mathews would sell him like Hogan during every match, I think we would have something beautiful.
