Hi there, I'd like advice! This will be the first year of the St. Valentine's Day holiday for my girlfriend and myself, and I'm getting a little anxious about what to do. We won't see each other that day, and I'll be sure to send her flowers, but for anything else, I'm stumped. She stays away from chocolate and candy and doesn't wear jewelry besides purposely-cheap earrings. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what has worked for them, either giving or receiving?
What are her likes. Get her something that she likes. Flowers always work for the most part unless she has allergies. I am getting my wife an original Y2J Hockey Jersey I found on ebay as well as taking her out for a nice dinner. She is getting me Mass Effect 3. Sometimes the best gift is something they like rather than jewels and candy. I'll do a flowers or candy too depending on what I can do. Again, find out what her likes are which you should know and if she is like most woman, you will eventually get a hint about what she wants. Worse case scenario take her shopping after you meet up again.
The Wee Baby Sheamus.

I always go for "personalized" stuff. I dont mean a baseball jersey with her name on the back (unless she really likes baseball?). I usually stay away from the generic flowers/candy/jewelry and go for things she's actually into. Or maybe plan a little trip to someplace she likes, preferrably someplace she doesnt get to go to very often.
If you can score some "He actually put some thought and planning into this thing he knows I like because he pays attention to me" points out of Valentine's Day, you win.

Hey, I thought it was funny. Not that I'm a good model for average femalekind, but she doesn't sound (from your description) to be the kind of girl who puts a lot of stock in the holiday. Stay simple, don't over think it.
With our wedding coming up, money is really tight, so I plan on doing something really nice: cooking up her favorite meal and doing the dishes afterward.
We've been together now for two years - we don't need extravagant Valentines gifts or whatever...we have each other.

Oliver has it right. Do something memorable, and don't worry so much about the gifts.
The other problem with gifts is if you plan on staying with this girl for a long time, every year you will be expected to outdo the year before. And you always put your best effort forth on the first valentine's-
Why won't you see her? Maybe work in a surprise visit?

Thanks, Papa...I appreciate the comment.
An idea I have kicking around is to drop by her work before she starts and put a card in the office mailbox - she'll get it while I'm at work. It's a great thing that I start my shifts an hour and a half early sometimes.
Thanks for the advice, everyone! I ended up going to a place where people can pick out and paint their own pottery, and I painted her a plate. I put several words and phrases having to do with different dates we've been on. I also made a poster of different pictures of her with captions about why I love her. Then I got her some daffodils and a card. She says she loves it, and I'm glad I stayed simple, even though it gave me some anxiety.
