I'm looking into getting a used guitar, and I've never played before(Further proof that politicians are guys who couldn't be rock stars). Anyhoo, does anybody know of a good place to get used musical instruments online? We used to have a local join called Music-Go-Round around here, but they dried up.

Any suggestions?

Pawn shops?

Taken from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

Accusations have surfaced about Julian Tavarez doctoring the baseball with a foreign substance that he hides on the bill of his cap.

''It's ridiculous,'' Tavarez said. ''They checked my hat last year, too, and never found anything. They're just trying to get inside my head. But I won't let them.'' Just to demonstrate that no one was getting inside his head, Tavarez decided to ramble on for another hour or two and provide a quote of the year possibility. ''Some people like skinny women. I like fat women. Some people like young women. I like older women. Some people like poor women. I like rich women,'' Tavarez said. ''Some people like clean hats. I like my dirty hat.''

Try eBay. If you know what brands you're after it's pretty easy to find someone who is desperate to unload a good guitar for quick cash. I've never actually gone through with it, but I window-shop there a lot. There's a Gretsch Sparklejet up right now that I would totally buy if the money didn't need to go toward thank-you notes. And also plus I don't need it, but you know. It's pretty and sparkles.

You can always try the local Guitar Center or similar place. They normally have some good priced used ones.

Do you have a guitar teacher? If so they might be able to sell you one or at least recommend some place to go. I bought a classical guitar from my teacher who got it second hand from another student and that was a great deal. If you've never played before I don't know that buying online would be the best bet. You might get it and not like the way it feels or the way it sounds.

'But if one is struck by me only a little, that is far different, the stroke is a sharp thing and suddenly lays him lifeless, and that man's wife goes with cheeks torn in lamentation, and his children are fatherless, while he, staining the soil with his red blood, rots away, and there are more birds than women swarming about him.' No teacher, just looking into getting one. But you're right, buying online could create a slight problem...

as a guy who has owned several used guitars, allow me to offer up this:

1. don't buy online: basically, if you can't try it out, you are playing very bad odds....

2. for some reason, the older/beat up/generic copy guitars provide the most odd, and great sounds.

to recommend: go for mexican made and japaneese made strats (just like your USA strat, but changed in odd, great ways) or look out for lesser known companies who copy standard designs..... for instance, the best three guitars i have ever owned was a japaneese copy of a Jaguar, a generic copy of a Gibson SG, and a Mexican copy of a telecaster that had an oviation headstock, and 3 humbuckers...

basically, seek out guitar stores that have used stuff, and if they are chain stores, get their catalogs/newsletters. plus, pawn shops are literally the best places for great, wierd stuff
