Below are the links to USA Today's STUNNING expose on wrestling and the perils of the sports entertainment business!

The calling card is "8 months" of research...which, in my opinion, was more like two weeks and then waiting for WMXX to post the story.

Part II is the bread and butter. Notable:

For now the only one standing up seems to be Piper. He says he forfeited hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential earnings because his outspokenness about rampant steroid and drug use got him fired from the WWE in June.

The WWE denies Piper's allegations. It says the two were unable to negotiate a contract.
....

Yet he clings to hopes of another big payday in wrestling. He suggests he and McMahon take their feud over Piper's dismissal to the airwaves.

"It would be great reality TV: two strong personalities going at it over a topical issue," he says, wistfully. "Maybe we could save lives in the process."

The same asshole that railed against the WWE and McMahon, but had no problem with accepting a paycheck when it served his purpose. And clinging to hopes for "another big payday"...Jesus

Also - the "story" about Crash is a riot. His claim to fame, according to USA is this:

Lockwood won more than 20 titles in the WWE and a cult following from 1998 to 2003.

ha ha ha...anyway, read for yourself. And remember timing is everything.

They seemed to inverview more people than the usual "steroids in wrestling" stories, from X-Pac to John Cena. Looks like Vince even gave them a little time.

But all these stories read the same. Go over the recent body count, get testimonials from former WWE wrestlers, background on steroids with mention of the steriod trial, Vince or another employee rebuts, finish.

If they actually spent 8 months combing through medical records, this story sure didn't reflect it.

Above is Flea's STUNNING response to a negative story about pro wrestling.

It's pretty good, by lower standards for mainstream articles.*

"The calling card is "8 months" of research"

It's been discussed since July, so month-math gives 8 of at least thinking about doing research.

"Also - the "story" about Crash is a riot. His claim to fame, according to USA is this:
Lockwood won more than 20 titles in the WWE and a cult following from 1998 to 2003."

He didn't even get there until August '99. But he had a cult following for like half of 2000.

Crash certainly had a cult of APW fans.

(Thanx for the linx, FLEA!)

whoops*....

"No one is standing up. Either they don't know what's going on or they're terrified of being blacklisted," says wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, echoing the sentiment of others.

Right on!

*(damn, I just KNEW Shapiro would have something to say if I didn't pull that Meltzer quote) ;-)

I knew it was coming because Meltzer has been mentioning it for months. Now that it's finally arrived, I'm compelled to ask,

"Is that all you've got?"

Hell, I could've written a better article with more facts without half of USA Today's connections.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

I think this will be part of the angle that sees Eric leave Raw. Granted, everyone is praising is work of late, but I think his short-term contract is about up. I can see angle Monday Night comes out and demends to know who is with him or against him.
