I've often wondered why the issue is handled one way for the descendants of Native Americans, and so much differently for the descendants of slaves. Is it because the focus has been different (the focus has been, for many years, more on equal rights and opportunities than reparations) or is it something else entirely?

It's because of racial politics that make black voters an active, dependable voting block, and the Native American vote expendable.
