I agree with lots of you guys that Univision is the place to be to see the World Cup. I saw the previous ones in '98 and '94 on Univision, and it's true, the storyteller makes the difference. That channel pulls major all nighters bringing all the games LIVE, even if it's in the wee hours. So I develop a strategy with this year's tournament. My World Cup schedule is this, I watch the first game, then the other three I program my VCR to tape. Fortunately, so far, the games on tape are keepers. So, let's all pull out our spanish-english dictionaries, and give some props to the folks at Univision for succeding where ESPN and ABC have failed, over and over again.

I love Univision during the World Cup too, they don't half-ass it like ESPN/ABC.There is a ton more of excitement like every game is the championship game.
And other thing,we get to hear this: "GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL"
BTW:My VCR is broke so I have to stay up and watch the games,I'm only awake now because 12 Mountain Dews(Code Red) and Papa John's Pizza.:)

Tru Dat yo. But for pure excitment, it's worth switching over to RAI international (35 in and around Toronto). Especially on penalty kicks. i have no idea what their announcer is saying, but boy does it get the blood pumping.

Really? Who have you got commentating then? Is it John Motson off of the BBC feed, because you know we all worship that guy here in the UK, right? Or have you got the crappy ITV commentary team with Ron Atkinson, who I'm sure with his constant references to handbags would make as much sense as the RAI international feed to you guys .

I know TSN uses gets a feed with Steve Maynard. And i know CBC has someone different but i don't know his name.
Apeerantly Maynard is calling the game off a TV screen while the CBC guy is in the stadium so his call is somewhat better.
Actually I'm pretty sure CBC spring from the BBC feed and gets Motson while TSN settles for the world feed. and has maynard (who possibly just has a British accent and lives in Canada) call the games.
The thing I love best about the BBC announcing (other than the fact that I can understand it) is that they aren't ashamed to say what they feel. If someone makes a blunder you'll hear: "What WAS he thinking?" or "A rather uninspired play there" Other words I love to hear them use:
Disasterous. Deposessed. Brillant. Lovely.
Though I also caught a game on the french CBC...

Yeah, it is kinda nice that the BBC guys really do call it like they see it. While they didn't actually use the phrase "England played like a bunch of blind monkeys" this morning, the sentiment was there. It's also pretty cool that the commentators (especially Motson) get fired up for good plays from non-English teams too. The whole spirit of the World Cup is to celebrate the sport rather than blind nationalism after all, so we should all buy into that.
Having said that though, it would be nice to see England win it, but when they don't I'd personally like to see the Irish or some other underdog team take it, and that might happen with all these big teams like France and Argentina now by the wayside.

My only hope is that neither portugal nor Italia are anywhere near the final game because i'm moving into a new place that's right between Little Italy and Little Portugal on the day of the final and either a win or a loss by either of those teams would make my move a living hell.
I just wish Andres Cantor was still Univision's lead announcer. Remember the play he got in 94???? Hell, he even made the late night talk shows if i recall correctly.
So does this mean that after Art Shell fails to turn around Oakland that Al Davis will try and correct that other mistake he made and bring back Mike Shannahan? Actually, I hope that Art Shell turns the team around.
