Damn, the Gators suck. I don't know what made the Seminoles defense turn it on tonight, but they dominated the Gators. Of course Grossman has been forced out of the pocket all year, so I guess I shouldn't be so surprised.

Anyway, I don't care much now. I transferred from UF to USF in August, and now as a Bull of South Florida, my school has the team with the second best record in Florida. With UF and FSU having off years, if they don't bounce back in the next couple of years, UCF and USF will be prepare to take their spots.

And while I'm on the subject, it pisses me off that USF, at 9-2 and with a win over an at-the-time-of-their-game ranked opponent (a 29-7 win over Bowling Green), will probably not go to a bowl game just because they have no conference affiliation (they join conference USA next year). They may finish the season in the top 25 if they do get a bowl berth, but I don't see it happening. I hope I'm wrong.

Damn, they don't open up anything for independent schools? Ah well, UConn had a good year... 6-6, with a season-ending win over Iowa State.

(See, we don't have football at my school. But I probably beat you over the head with that before.)

nope, bowl bids are on a based on conferences. if you go to the ncaafootball.net it gives the bowl sch. and it will say like ACC #3 vs SEC #3 or something like that, meaning that the bowl gets the 3rd pick from the pool of ACC bowl elegible teams, and same from the SEC

it's all about conf rivalies....

so if the indy teams don't want to join a conf, or left their conf in Notre Dames case, then they're out of luck

for ND to get a bid, they must end up in the top 6 of the final BCS standings
OR
and indy team, like South Florida, or a lesser conf champ, like the MAC or WAC champ finishes in the top 6 of the BCS, then Notre Dame can get a bid by winning 9 non exempt games AND finishing in the top 10 of the BCS.

the idea is that Notre Dame is as good as any Indy or lesser conf champ that gets in the top 6

here's where i think the 6 indy teams should end up:

Connecticut -> where ever they're going anyway. aren't they joining the Big East?
Navy -> ACC, then break the ACC into 2 divs, Carolina/The Rest. WF,Duke,NC,NCSU,Clemson vs. MD,VA,NAVY,FSU,GT and have a title game
Notre Dame -> Big East [duh]
South Florida -> SEC
Troy State -> Sun Belt or MAC
Utah State -> MAC or WAC

DDP: Well, there's this little passage I got memorized, Diamond Dallas 25:17. Sort of fits this occasion:

"The path of the bookerman is beset on all sides by the inequities of the talented, and the tyranny of workrate freaks. Blessed is he, who in the name of tradition and sports entertainment carries the stiffs through the matches of Nitro, for he is truly the workrate's keeper, and the finder of lost quality. And I will lay the smack down upon thee with great vengeance and furious roid rage those who attempt to outwrestle and expose my brothers. And you will know my name as the Bookerman, when I lay my catchphrase upon thee!"

As a matter of fact, yes, they are. Now that they have the new stadium, they can officially join. They should be surprisingly competitive, too, considering their performance.

eh, the huskies went 6-6, but 1 of those wins was against a I-AA team...

if they do 4-7 or 4-8 against I-A, i'd be impressed, but that's just me
but, now that they're in the Big East, if they go 6-6 they MIGHT have the option of going to the Insight.com, Continental Tire, or San Francisco bowls...or Gator or Orange if they get good for some odd reason
i still think that ND should stop being pussies and re-join the Big East for Football, or risk being excluded from the BCS. that's not going to happen because their AD is 1 of the 7 BCS founders. the other 6 are the ADs of the big 6 confs...

I feel your pain bro, living in Tampa and actually going to the games made me a big fan myself. The thing is I don't really care if they get in a bowl or not this year. I could care less if they play in the National Car Rental bowl. Notice I say they cause I'm still a HUGE FSU fan. The big thing for the Bulls is to do every thing they can to keep Leavitt. If he leaves they're screwed. If he stays they're a top 25 team.

if south florida can improve on this team next year, then i honestly think they have a shot at getting a top 25 BCS ranking....

Wow, so after all these years of Notre Dame getting bowl bids with 7-4, 6-5 records because of their name, they're actually going to work for it? Too bad.

but, because ND WAS in the Big East, they are considered a Big East team for lesser bowl considerations...

yep, they get it both ways....

What?? The FSU defense dominate the Gators? Please, Grossman threw 300 yards, Kite had 130 yards receiving, and Graham ran for 80 yards which is pretty good for a Gator team. The only reason Florida didn't score more was because of field position and penalties.

FSU won because of their special teams and offense, not defense.

As a Canes fan, I am impartial in my dislike for both UF and FSU, but I have to say that FSU looked impressive in that game... either that or the Gators really sucked (and that they do!).

Getting back to USF, joining C-USA isn't exactly the way to make it to the top of the polls and/or BCS. Remember when Tulane went 12-0 a few years ago and nobody blinked(I think they finished at # 7 in the final writers poll, but finished # 10 in the final BCS rankings and won the Liberty Bowl). C-USA is a basketball conference that plays football. ECU, USM, TCU and Louisville are all up and down but there are no consistently good programs like there are in other conferences which could hurt USF's run to the top, but having the bowl tie-ins sure as hell beats not having them.

Well I don't actually think USF is about to become a national powerhouse. they've only had a football team since 1997 I believe, and this is I think their second year in division one.

You're right that CUSA is weak and won't lead to big bowl games, but perhaps it could lead to an invite to a bigger conference. I don't quite understand the politics of football when it comes to getting into conferences, but maybe a few years at the top of C-USA could lead to something else.

Also, a tough out-of-conference schedule could negate the problems that come with a weak conference.

they could try ACC...at 9 teams it couldn't hurt having a 10th to even it out...

The ACC is a Bball conf, but MD, FSU, VA, and NCSU were great this year and they went 10-3, 9-4, 8-5, 10-3, which is pretty good for the ACC...

i think all indy teams should be excluded from bowls, but that's just me...

and congrats to 'Bama for their win in the first annual probation bowl...

edit:

interesting Article on ESPN.com about Notre Dame and BCS bowl bids here

USF aint bd in hoops either; a shift to the ACC wouldn't be that bad for them. If UCF and ECU jump to the ACC, they could actually have a conference championship game.(Though I would love to see Marshall in the ACC for football).

Sorry Riki - ND has always been an independent when it comes to football and until just recently they were an independent in hoops too. In NCAA Hockey I believe they recently joined the CCHA and in Lacrosse I think they are still an independent since the Big East does not have Lax. As for their baseball affiliation, who cares.

As an at-large team with a big fan base that spends $$$'s wherever they go, ND always gets consideration from the secondary bowl games.
